Oh yeah, i love this group and the singer has a so nice voice, very warm,
soft and sensual, always gives me goosebumps :)
I think it could be a good choice for Lestat,s voice indeed :)

I know that Jonathan Davis is already slated to be Lestat's singing
voice, but I don't think that Davis has the type of voice that is requried to
be Lestat. I imagine Lestat's voice to be graceful and somewhat delicate but at
the same time assertive, strong and very passionate and sensual. I wonder what
Anne thinks of this....

Meanwhile, I'd like to recommend someone who I think would be much, much better
as Lestat: Jeff Martin of the Canadian Band the Tea Party. Has anyone heard of
him? If not him, perhaps Trent Reznor, who has a voice that can be angry,
wistful, and beautiful, all in the same breath.
I'd really like to get a discussion going about what people imagine Lestat's
voice to be like.

It's too damn bad they didn't make these movies sooner. If only we could have
had that 80's image of the novel. I picture Lestat, the musician, as the lead
singer from INXS; has the large sensual mouth and sedudtice eyes. No doubt,
Anne had the large poofy haired, tight panted, spandex, glitter-goth image in
mind.

Yes, I suppose an '80s-like look would fit...15 years ago...
Unfortunately, time has passed. Today I find that Silverchair frontman D.
would do a good job as Lestat's voice

According to Anne Rice, Lestat is supposed to sound like Jim Morrison.
Although, I think Baby Jenks says that he sounds like Bruce
Springsteen.
It would have been very cool to hold closer to Anne's original vision
and have Springsteen provide Lestat's voice, since Morrison
is...eh...unavailable.

Strangely enough, I think Jonathan Davis is a perfect pick for Lestat's
voice. While reading The Vampire Lestat, and Qotd, I couldn't shake the
feeling's that it gave me, which are identical when I'm listening to
Jonathan sing. What most of the public hears of korn is the 'harsher'
voices Davis does. He has an amazingly beautiful voice when he fits it to
the right songs. You all should seriously download a song from napster
called 'Sleepy Hollow' by the band Deadsy which Davis guest vocals on. This
song was never released to the public, it was pulled before (which is too
bad) but it is the perfect example of his lestat/like voice (imo).

I agree totally, I think Korn is a near perfect choice for
Satan's Night Out. It's one of the few choices that I've heard
the filmmakers have made which appears promising in this
project. Hopefully, the soundtrack will not totally disappear in
the context of the film, and they havn't made the choice just so
they have a blockbuster movie soundtrack release on cd.

I think Darren Hayes (Savage Garden)(if you guys don't think it's corny) has
a singing voice for Lestat.
Smoky, gentle and sensual...he puts a lot of emotion into his singing and
can be as gentle and seductive as a lover or powerful when Lestat gets mad.

Personally, I see Darren as more a Louis type. Though he could do Lestat... But
in "Crash and Burn," the image I get is totally Louis singing to Lestat in the
aftermath of Memnoch. (And yes, I'm aware that Louis has no need of a singing
voice, as he doesn't have a band, but still...)

For me Lestat would have to be capable of singing
in more than one way... so I guess I always assumed
that he was capable of anything from Nine Inch Nails
to something more ethereal, and some totally
unnatural effects, too.

I guess if they used the best they could get from
Jonathan Davis' voice and kept in mind that they
were trying to make Lestat's voice, rather than
what I personally fear they'll do (just boast about
the fact they have a Korn soundtrack) then it could
work pretty well. But I don't think they'll do this.

Well, I bit the bullet of curiosity and I spent about an hour listening to
korn's latest album Issues (borrowed from my brother), and I'm still not
convinced that Davis can capture the full colours of any immortal's voice, let
alone that of Lestat. Two songs, though, stuck out in my head as signs of some
potential on Davis's part, singing and songwritingwise: "Wake Up" and "No Way"
"Wake Up" sounds like it could be in Qotd: As Davis screams for someone to
"Wake the F**k Up"--we all know who that could be. If anyone wants to check
them out I'm sure there are plenty of MP3's of these two songs on Napster.
Although I'm not convinced I'm keeping my mind open. Aleck, I'd really like to
hear "Sleepy Hollow" if you could direct me to an MP3 or Real Audio file of the
song.

I've found it by just looking it up on napster. I think it labels the
artist as korn... (even though it's deadsy's song...) "Korn; Sleepy Hollow"
I think you should get it. Sorry if that didn't help too much...
I just want to add something here... korn is my favorite band (can you tell
I'm a teenager? lol) and I'm ashamed of it- but I started reading Anne Rice
because I heard that they were going to have something to do with Qotd.
That was two weeks ago.. and I am *so* hooked on everything AR now! Now I
have to praise for a moment... She is the most amazing author... I've read
the first four books in the vampire series, and I have 300 pages left in
the witching hour (I've been reading at least one hundred pages a day. It's
so addicting...). So, yes. I'm new here. hello to all.

Thank for suggesting that I search for Korn instead of Deadsy. I kept looking
for the song under "Deadsy". I'm going to listen to it soon. I found the song
and I'm going to DL it.
Korn's...okay. I thought they were better on Follow the Leader--Issues is not a
strong album.
Isn't Anne Rice great? I'm glad you've gotten into her. I've also read the
first 4 vampire books and also Armand--and 2 of the Mayfair series. The
Witching Hour is, in my opinion, a better book than Lasher, though. The ending
to Lasher was extremely rushed and unsatisfying. I've read Vittorio the Vampire
(which I highly recommend), Violin (another great book), and the first Book in
the Beauty series (i don't know whether to recommend this to you, it is
erotica.)

I've always imagined Lestat being a cross between David Bowie and Andrew
Eldritch
( of Sisters Of Mercy).

David Bowie because Lestat's album pretty much parallels Ziggy Stardust, right
down to being forgotten after one album ( see "Rock'n'Roll Suicide"). The
whole glam/theatrical thing also sounds like what Lestat was doing.

As for Sisters of Mercy, Andrew Eldritch is notorious for being pompous and
claiming to be the best lyricist in the world. See the connection? ;) SoM
are also known for dark, dramatic, dancy songs.

Hmm... I never even considered Bowie...
([smacking forehead] stupidstupidstupid)
Not a bad idea. I thought James Hetfield for a while, but that really seems too
low. I finally settled on Jim Morrison after being forced to sit through
thirty-six hours of my Mom's favorite Doors album... Probably the only thing that
kept me from breaking that damned tape...
