I am reading Lasher (first time)...I'm besides myself, really, I can't
believe Rowan is dead. Weirdly, she was one of my favorite characters,
and I kind of feel like Mona is...too...too..something! I don't want
that for Michael. I had read the part where Rowan died like 5 times
because I couldn't believe it. I'll probably finish it tonight but I'm
just very sad about this whole thing. =(
Okay, then I have a question. It's about Stella's murder. I've been
confused about this since I finished TWH last month. WHO shot Stella? It
was Lionel, right? But someone (Ancient Evelyn, I think) in Lasher said
that it was Coretta, all Coretta. But she's just talking about
influence, right? I found myself sort of feeling sorry for Coretta at
the end of TWH. I mean I don't know if I'd want to live in a house full
of witches with "the man" either. But I wish they would finally clear up
the whole Stella murder issue (was it because she was going to go to
London with Aaron?). Maybe it will be cleared up. Maybe Julien will tell
me in the next chapter. Argh. It seems I should be reading and not
posting, eh? :)
Well, I'm happy to have somewhere to babble about what I'm reading.
Thanks everybody!
peace+chaos,
Betsy

I really sympathize with you. When I finished TWH I posted a long
diatribe about how disappointed I was with the ending and how angry I was about
Rowan going from the strongest female character in all of Rice's writings to
yet another helpless man-dependant woman. After reading that long LONG book,
the ending is a let down. All I can say is read Lasher right away and you'll
feel a lot better, I promise!

I think the point was that even the strong ones can be seduced. Even the
strongest can be moved, and can be irrational. Rowan did have her weaker spots
and Lasher found them. I didn't find it a bad thing, and it didn't diminish
Rowan in my sight.

Then you and Rowan are in the same, emotionally exhausted boat. =)

Cry to Heaven is wonderful. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
