~4-Year-Old Lost Parts Of Two Fingers~
The parents of a Cumberland County boy who lost parts of two
fingers in an accident with an exercise bike have agreed to a
proposed six-figure settlement with the manufacturer.

Schwinn Cycling and Fitness, while agreeing to the $122,000
settlement, denies liability for the December 1995 accident.

In their lawsuit, George and Debra Eisenhauer said their 4-year-old son,

Taylor, got his hand caught in the chain of the bike while turning a
pedal with his hand, causing the hand to be drawn into the
sprocket's metal teeth.

Schwinn countersued saying the Eisenhauers could have prevented the
accident.

CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) -- 11/14/2003
The parents of a boy who lost part of two fingers in an accident
with an exercise bicycle have agreed to a proposed $122,500
settlement with the bike's manufacturer.

Under the proposed settlement, Schwinn Cycling and Fitness Inc.,
would not admit fault for a December 1995 accident in which one
of its exercise bikes severed most of Taylor Eisenhauer's small finger
and ring finger on his right hand. He was 4 years old at the time.

A Cumberland County judge is to review the proposed settlement,
reached with the help of a mediator, court records show.

In a lawsuit filed against Schwinn in April 1999, George and Debra
Eisenhauer said their son got his hand caught in the chain of the bike
while turning a pedal with his hand. His hand was then drawn into
the sprocket with its metal gear teeth.

Schwinn countersued and denied liability,
arguing that the Eisenhauers could have prevented the accident.
