Odd files appear in Vuze?

Ever since TPB changed to Magnet Links and I upgraded my version of Vuze to
ver.4.6.0.4 to handle them I have, from time-to-time, noticed files in the
'Downloads' pane that have the Vuze from icon and disappear before I have
time to see what they are.

Well, it happened again today and I quickly right-clicked it, hit 'Stop' (it
was on "Force Start") and then hit 'print screen' so now I know what it's
called at least. I'd just started two downloads moments before, from magnet
links from TPB.

As I looked at it it vanished, even though I'd stopped it and it hadn't
downloaded any data. I pasted it into a graphics programme to get the title.
The offending file was called: "Download for subscription 'Subscription
xxxxxx for xxxxx....." and it disappeared as the column wasn't wide enough.
The two 'xxxxxx' seemed to be the hash numbers for the two torrents that I'd
just added, without the spaces. The file size was 1.2kb.

Anyone seen these before and able to enlighten me as to their safety (or
lack thereof)?

Cheers,

Shaun.

Hi Shaun,

Have you thought of changing your client to
<my-favourite-flavour-of-the-month> ;-)

Seriously .... I haven't noticed it but then I haven't been looking
either. As I understand it, this happens after you've clicked on the
mag-link and gone through the search-trackers pop-up and OK'd the
resulting file list. Then you get the target files in the download pane.
And then these spurious files show up after that?

I possibly wouldn't have noticed because I generally interface with the
torrent machine from another computer via a VPN and it might be a bit
slow to notice a transient occurrence like that. I'll see if I can do
some stuff direct on that machine.

I gather it doesn't happen with every file though. Can you point me to a
torrent you've noticed it on? (email me if you want).

Hi Sid,

Yeah mate, only noticed it three times since the upgrade and using magnet
links.

For some reason my Outlook Exploder is borked and, even though when I've
double-clicked on a post and go to view and 'show all headers' I don't seem
them so can't email you. The last time I'd just added the latest two NCIS
programmes, the original and LA, within less than a minute of each other and
it was their hashes that were in the name of the file. Odd, but then perhaps
that's how magnets work? I need a bit of data to give others who are using
magnets?

FIIK. <shrug>

Cheers bud,

I thought you might have still had it around from before ... no matter.

I'd have thought that would be sorted out in the tracker search window
that opens immediately after you click on the mag-link. Sure takes long
enough sometimes. As I (crudely) understand it, the difference with the
magnetic link is that, instead of TPB supplying you with tracker info
(via a torrent file), you get some file information in the link which
your client broadcasts (sort of an APB) and asks suitable trackers to
respond. (I guess that puts TPB in a slightly different legal position
in that they aren't giving you tracker info .... you're digging that up
yourself. Don't know if it will seriously affect their legal standing
though).

In any event, I tried starting up a few of the most recent NCIS torrents
and didn't see the effect you described. Not within several minutes anyway.

Oh, shit, yeah. Sorry mate, I probably do have it. The down-side of strong
pain meds is the damage they wreak on your memory. Apologies. :(

Yup. I don't fully understand how they work, just that they're better on a
search-site such as TPB from a legal standpoint. I might have to educate
myself a little more (and try to retain it, LOL) if I see these files much
more.

Thanks for checking, I appreciate it. :)

Did you find an answer? Your question about the odd files which was super relevant and precisely descriptive of my issue, QUICKLY spun off into comments on the "new" magnet link method--which being new to this, is all I have used. But what of these files? I'm worried about viruses, malware, or something else...I'm going to do extensive scans but please shed any light on this.

I never did find out what these files are and I still see them quite
regularly and stop and delete them when I do. I'd love to know what they
are.

Also, because I seed rare torrent I leave Vuze running as long as my laptop
is (~16 hours a day). I also game. Sometimes when I'm gaming I notice a bit
of lag and check the DU Meter window on the laptop. Sure enough theres an
upload in progress which doesn't show in Vuze but stops when I stop Vuze.
This happens several times a day, I'm guessing perhaps 25 MB at a time.

I used to use Safepeer (?) if that's what the Vuze plugin was called. I
*think* I stopped using it and it no longer appears anywhere in Vuze'
options but I wonder if these strange behaviours are anything to do with
that. Did you ever install that jcjjccjjjccc?

Cheers,
