Is Fly Bait Effective Against Woodchucks?

The old 12 gauge sent mama groundhog to her eternal reward yesterday AM,
and did the same to one of her children later, but the remaining child is
very cautious and impossible to get a bead on.
OK, fly bait mixed with Dr. Pepper (non-diet) is very effective against
raccoons. They die on the spot. Problem is that it's attractive to birds
and pets too. Just wondering if woodchucks are attracted to it???
I understand that just plain carbonated soft-drink (non-diet) will kill
woodchucks because they are unable to belch. Is this a myth?

never tried it with woodchucks. As for the choice of shootin' irons at a
distance, I just can't zero in the Ruger 22. The trajectory seems to go
right and upward.

but, like you say, it's probably myth.
Those damn things are a real pest though. Smoking them out isn't an
option. They're smart enough to start a burrow on one side of the property
line and finish it on the other, going under a barbed-wire fence, poison
ivy, wild rose, and worst of all, a row of about 50 mulberry and black
cherry trees which attract them in the first place.

woodchucks and raccoons can be. Woodchucks dig these burrows near fruit
trees making it impossible to mow. They've even tried to burrow under the
house. Raccoons tear up gardens and deck furniture, wash their food in the
cat's water dish, try to get down the chimney, and of course are the most
likely of all creatures to have rabies. Even in my left-wing,
politically-correct Stae, the govt. encourages killing 'coons. In fact,
it's illegal to trap and release 'em.
