This is a reflection on all fallen men.

Matthew 16:21  From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his
disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of
the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised
again the third day.

Matthew 16:22  Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be
it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

Matthew 16:23  But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me,
Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things
that be of God, but those that be of men.

Peter is under the illusion that he has power!

And notice, it is an offence against God! He is the power! Peter is
tasting pleasure over his false image; not only does he have the
illusion he has power, but he is also projecting the illusion he really
cares about Jesus beyond himself (Mark 14:72).

He is a liar, to put it bluntly.

We were all like Peter, believing that we had power and that our
emotions were genuine.

Thank goodness, Peter learned his lesson, as all the sons of God did. It
was a very, very humbling experience.
