According to the real Biblical Gospel,
Christ justifies (declares righteous)
everyone he saves
while they are yet ungodly
by giving them faith
to trust him to be righteous for us:

But to him that worketh not,
but believeth on him that
justifieth the ungodly,
his faith is counted for righteousness.
(Romans 4:5 KJV)

When Christ showed Luther
the real Biblical Gospel
to enable the Protestant Reformation,
he showed that he gives us eternal life
when he gives us faith to trust him
to be righteous for us for salvation
rather than trust in any personal
supposed "righteousness" at all.
(Preface to the Complete Edition
of Luther's Latin Works,
by Martin Luther, 1545)

Despite justification being based
entirely on the righteousness of Christ,
and not at all on personal supposed
"righteousness", Catholic carryovers
brought over during the Reformation,
caused repentance to be viewed as
a precondition for justification,
though the Reformers did seek
to keep trust on Christ alone by
showing repentance to be distinct
from justification which is salvation.
(The Solid Declaration
of the Formula of Concord,
part V: Law and Gospel,
sections 2-9, 22, 27)

Today, trust in Christ alone
for salvation is still professed
by many Protestants, though actually
only those that Christ has given faith
to trust him to be righteous for us
actually do trust in Christ alone
so that he becomes their eternal life.

Almost all Protestants today,
back down on salvation for the ungodly,
and rather divide their trust
for salvation between Christ
and their personal supposed
"righteousness", especially
their repentance, though also
baptism, "regenerated" self,
church, giving, endurance, etc.

People, churches, denominations,
ministries, seminaries, theologians,
often profess to believe that salvation
is by "grace alone", "faith alone",
"Christ alone", and some even
by the imputed righteousness of Christ,
but then rather than receive faith from Christ
to trust him to be righteous for us,
cause people to trust in
repentance for salvation
rather than repent out of love for God.

The real Biblical Gospel increasingly
was pushed aside after Christ showed
it for the Protestant Reformation,
just as it was after the Apostles.
Today, a theologian adding both
repentance and surrender to faith
for being justified (declared righteous)
may have a very popular ministry.
(Grace To You, Doctrinal Statement,
by John MacArthur, Justification)

So widespread is the belief that
people must in some way repent,
no matter how or how little,
before being saved,
that even a ministry striving
to return to the Biblical Gospel
may still add repentance
to faith for salvation.
(Present Truth Magazine,
vol 2, article 7, by editor,
The Justification of Sinners,
paragraph defining prevenient grace)

Calvinistic bullshit.

Luther screwed up. He failed to see baptism as Triune, as he was still
holding out for the failed Catholic, one-baptism model, not the baptisms
of water, Spirit, and fire (or, as John calls it, blood), i.e. baptism
as a life process, not a singular event.

...said the Arminian sot, right before he
gets to a passage of Scripture that says that
very thing.

But to the one who does not work, but
believes in Him who justifies the ungodly,
his faith is credited as righteousness,
(Romans 4:5)

Now look for the "bad hair day"/time-space
continuum defense.
