asking God to block Health Care Reform

Now read what their Jesus said about praying in public:
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they
love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the
streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have
their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast
shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father
which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Matthew 6:5-6

Why is it the "hypocritical Christian Right?"

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypoctites are: for

Too bad 1) there are two contexts of prayer in the New Testament, community
and personal, and 2) Jesus was rebuking the insincere prayers of the
Pharisees as they "played church," not community prayers, and 3) the podcast
was directed at the Christian community, not the public.
Now, given that you don't believe the Bible, and don't even know what
anything therein means, you would be wise to keep your mouth shut on the
matter, for you're rather like the morons who don't understand that there
are two contexts of the word "judgment" in the New Testament--having
judgment, and passing judgment--but presume to say denouncing sins was
condemned by Jesus when He did no such thing.
Oh...and the "creepy one" is Rachel Maddow.
Ike
One would think it's self-evident, even for one such as yourself.

Pray for Goppers the way they pray for Obama! Psalm 109!
Give an example of "community prayers" in the New Testament, Slappy.
The creepy anti-Health Care Reform event was "publicly" broadcast
online, asshole.

Always some asshole around to waste your time.
Nevertheless...
Mr 11:17a And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall
be called of all nations the house of prayer?
Acts 1:13-14
...and when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where
abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas,
Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and
Judas the brother of James. These all continued WITH ONE ACCORD IN PRAYER
AND SUPPLICATION, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his
brethren.
Acts 6:3-7
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report,
full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business:
But we will give OURSELVES CONTINUALLY TO PRAYER, and to the ministry of the
word.
And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a
man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and
Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch, whom
they set before the apostles: AND WHEN THEY HAD PRAYED, THEY laid their
hands on them.
And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples
multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were
obedient to the faith.
Ro 15:30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and
for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers
to God for me;
Ac 12:5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without
ceasing OF THE CHURCH UNTO GOD FOR HIM.
2Co 1:11 ...ye also helping TOGETHER BY PRAYER for us, that for the gift
bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on
our behalf.
2Co 9:13-14
...whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for
your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal
distribution unto them, and unto all men; and by THEIR PRAYER FOR YOU, which
long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.
Php 1:19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through YOUR PRAYER
[that of the Philippians], and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ...
1Ti 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
Phm 1:22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your
prayers I shall be given unto you.
Re 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden
censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it
with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the
throne.

The PrayerCast was sponsored by the Family Research Council, a para-church
ministry, asshole: Who did you THINK it was meant for?
What? Christians aren't allowed to use technology to reach a wider audience?
Ike
Not at all: The Gospel is that the believers are saved by grace through
faith DESPITE their sins.
So where is the "hypocrisy?"
(The underlying error here is the fact that you fools don't even know what
the Gospel IS...)
Ike
The radical right wing Christian Taliban Family Research Council is a
political outfit with a PUBLIC policy political agenda that appeals to
ignorant, weak-minded, easily lead fringe, wacko fundy fanatics -
people like just you.
> What? Christians aren't allowed to use technology to reach a wider audience?
>
> Ike
It was *public* praying, just like the hypocrites Jesus described. It
was also for a PUBLIC political agenda - something in which Jesus took
no part.
By "God" what they actually mean are the Insurance Company PAC's.
GOD is actually an acronym for "Greed Over Democracy". GOP = Greed
Over People, and GOW = Greed Over Workers.
Good observation.
For anything other than an "opt-in" scenario, I'd say no. Even an
"opt-out" situation should not be permitted, and definitely not a
situation where the "audience" has no choice. I travel a lot for
business, and there is already too much mindless chatter being spewed
over the PA system on many airlines. If a single pilot or flight
attendant decided to use it to proselytize any religion, I'd follow up
repeatedly with the FAA and the airline that the offending person be
punished appropriately. From what I know of this industry, even with
the massive cutbacks in salary and benefits, there's a line out the
door for every potential job opening.

Nuh uh. Look, thinking is work, and you're unemployed. That's a shame.
You go pray or whatever and we'll handle the day-to-day real-world stuff,
mmkay? kthxbye.
LOL
It's your handling of the "day-to-day real-world stuff" that will be your
undoing, oh, clueless one.

First of all, I have nothing in the Family Research Council, and it is of no
significance to me, as, usual, you are jumping to false conclusions.
Second, what YOU wish to label it is irrelevant--it is STILL a para-church
organization, and it STILL has the right to communicate as it pleases.
Third, the fact remains that the podcast was meant for CHURCH PEOPLE, and if
anyone else listened in, that was their prerogative.
> What? Christians aren't allowed to use technology to reach a wider
> audience?
> It was *public* praying,
So? The children of God have ALWAYS had public prayers.
> just like the hypocrites Jesus described.
Maybe. Maybe not.
See, Jesus was NOT taking issue with public prayer. He was taking issue with
the driving force behind the PHARISEES' public prayers.
Now, if you want to equate what they were doing with THAT, that's your
business (but you better be damn right if you're going to judge).
But Jesus did NOT take issue with public prayer--He took issue with the
MANNER and PURPOSE of that prayer.
> It was also for a PUBLIC political agenda - something in which Jesus took
> no part.
For now--His Kingdom IS Coming...and then folks like you will be in a world
of hurt.
Ike
Like I said.
When your time comes, you will be placed on a slab, formalin will be
pumped into your veins and arteries, then you'll go into a box and into
the ground, but you won't be around to enjoy it because "you" ceases to
exist when your brain thing stops working. No heaven, no afterlife.
This is really all you've got, and you're wasting it on religious stuff.
But it's your life to waste as you would. I'll stick to the real world
and grab what I can of it now--there won't be anything afterward.
It must be one hell of a pointless and pathetic existence for you.
Ike
<snip>
> For now--His Kingdom IS Coming
I predict, in the name of the holy and Divine Dog God, that Jesus will
*not* come to earth again. Ever.
He sure as hell won't be coming in 2010. All the followers of the
false god Jesus will be waiting for his return in 2011 because he'll
be a "no show" once more.
I predict, in the name of the Divine Dog God, that the followers of
this false Jesus god will still be awaiting his imminent return 1000
years from now.
> ...and then folks like you will be in a world
> of hurt.
Jesus is an evil god, but the Great Divine Dog God giveth comfort.
Yea, thine stress will lower upon scratching his ears and petting his
belly. And when the great Divine Dog Gog licketh thine face thine
brain waves do moderate.
Flea (pun intended) the up-tight anal retentive Jesus god of corporate
fascism; the Jesus of fundamentalism and whacked out religions like
Mormonism, too. Worship no more the evil gods that tell wicked
presidents (and their Vice President puppet masters) to start wars
based on lies and to burn children to death with incendiary devices.
Flea the Jesus devil that spreads ignorance and stupidity among the
addle minded "creationists."
Embrace DOG, the great and all powerful ruler of the universe!
Never cease praying to him. Never cease throwing the Frisbee for
him. And, yea, he loveth to catch sticks, too. Cease not to bring
the leather chew toy to his holy house (no non-leather imitations,
please. DOG is very picky).
Bask in the protective presence of the great DOG God who (unlike cheap
imitation gods like Jesus, in silly fairytale stories) really will
give his life for you. Bask in his love, let his warm tongue licketh
thine hand, but giveth him a breath mint before thou alowest him to
lick thine face.
<snip to end>
Nope. I'm not the one wasting time. I'm the one doing stuff with it.
Clock's ticking.
LOL
...then everything you do is in vain.
1Co 15:32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus,
what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to
morrow we die.
Like I said, it must be one hell of a pointless and pathetic existence for
you.
Ike
Ike E, YOU, are pointless and pathetic, a dumbass loud mouth
braggadacio who claims to know the bible better than anybody else
arounf here; a dumbass, who when challenged throws up a smoke screen
and thinks no one can see him. Dumbass!

Atheist
Any asshole can quote a holy book. It's meaningless and doesn't scare me,
though it obviously frightens the pee out of you.
Why don't you quote something useful, like repair techniques for my leaky
sunroof? What's the connector under my console for with one orange and
one yellow wire? Why don't my delay wipers delay properly?
> Like I said, it must be one hell of a pointless and pathetic existence
> for you.
Whatever you say. You're the one wasting your time.
Tick...tock...tick...tock...tick...tock...tick...tock...tick...tock...tic
k...tock...tick...tock...tick...tock...tick...tock...tick...tock...tick..
.tock...
You're that much closer to the grave, and that much closer to finding out
that you did all that navel-gazing for nothing.
Get on that sunroof thing. I gotta drive to work Monday and I'd like it
to be fixed soon.
Their chief concern is public funding over abortion.

They'll tolerate it if they get their way.

They will let any number of humans die to discourage more abortions.
They don't really understand what 'pro-life' should mean.

Who will die if abortions are discouraged?

Michael
And of course, Ike, you're aware that the New Testament is cobbled
together from scraps, that there are more inconsistencies in the
sources than there are actual words in the testament, that much of it
was added centuries after the first texts were written down, and that
it was written in Koine Greek, in some parts so eccentric that
interpretation, let alone translation, is quite difficult. And, of
course, you're fluent in Koine Greek and fully competent to criticize
this individual's comments.
