UNIQUE POSITION DETAILS:

occasional weekend maintenance work. CCIE desirable.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Platform Engineering supports an extensive network linking its
proprietary real-time trading operations to exchanges, customers, and
market data vendors across the country via an extensive WAN.
The CDMI WAN is based on a closed ring of DS3s linking our primary
sites, with extensive networks fanning out from the Minnetonka and
Chicago locations, including:
- 60+ client connections for the DES business unit, using direct DS0s
and Radianz/Savvis PVCs from Chicago and Minnetonka to provide
redundant 64kbps connectivity for order routing;
- CDMI-managed DS3 and OC3 connectivity to exchanges and market data
vendors;
- interconnects to vendor-managed equipment for connectivity to
exchanges and market data;
- a metro-area dark-fiber ring connecting our various facilities in
Chicago;
- a mesh of 6500s and 5500s in MN and Chicago supporting the core
trading systems.
The successful candidate will be well-versed in networking technology
and will be either:
- an expert in either building and maintaining a world-class BGP/MPLS
infrastructure to provide seamless failover and continuous
connectivity between sites, accommodating the often-conflicting
routing needs of the various sites; or
- a campus-LAN expert, familiar with implementing high-availability
layer-2 and layer-3 solutions in a high-volume high-risk trading
environment where failure is not an option.
This is a small group working in a large dynamic environment; as such,
this is very much a hands-on position the person will be expected to
work with the team in designing solutions and helping to implement
them as well as be involved in the day-to-day operation and
maintenance of the network, troubleshooting down circuits and fielding
support calls from Trading Systems Operations as well as research into
building the latest in technology to move into the next-generation
high speed network that CDMI needs to move their business forward. The
ideal candidate will be happy to share their knowledge with the team
as well as learn from them, and is looking for a fast-paced, open
environment where change management and best practices are important
and necessary but does not impediments to pushing the boundaries of
networking technology.

POSITION CRITERIA: (education, years of experience, skills, etc)

6+ years Cisco IOS experience on 3600/7200-class hardware in a complex

6+ years Cisco Catalyst OS and IOS experience on Cat6500 hardware in a

environment; and/or expert-level knowledge of campus-LAN engineering
