I am a Canadian (live in Ontario) and I live close to the US border
and also Quebec border. I am getting married and have to pay for the
bulk of the wedding myself so cost cutting is an issue. I have to have
an open bar and the wedding is taking place on my own property and I
have a liquor licence. So I need to know where I can get cases of
beer and bottles of Whiskey, Rum, Vodka and Gin in a relative large
quantity for as cheap as possible. A 24 pack of beer her in Ontario
runs roughly $35CAD and a 40 ounce bottle around $45 if I remember
correctly. I have seen flyers some time ago about duty free shops
having deals if you buy 10 cases or something, so that even after
paying taxes and duties it worked out cheaper. Does anybody have any
info on this? Any advice?

Yeah, don't get married.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Not only will this poor guy have to pay
for the wedding, but he'll probably lose 50 percent of his wealth when the
divorce goes through.

Women do get half in Canada to, don't they?

Duplicate reply, also posted to your same question in r.c.b.

First, why would you rely on advice from a Usenet group on the
Internet?
Look in the blue pages of your telephone directory for Customs. You'll
find a toll free number and you can get the information right from the
horse's mouth.
I think you'll find that you have to out of the country for 48 hours
before you are allowed to bring any booze back with you and you
already know those limits.
As for over and above that limit, even if you are willing to pay the
extra duties and taxes that will be tacked on, you'll have to contact
the LCBO to determine what the allowable limit in Ontario is for over
and above your duty free allowance.
Lets face it, the provincial government doesn't make it easy for one
to circumvent their liquor cash cow.
