Hi, I'm gonna be going to a conference in Dallas pretty soon. My
officemates are all Guinness freaks and we'd like to know if there are
bars in Dallas that serve Guinness ON TAP. At the risk of seeming
ignorant, it's not common to find one up HERE (and it SHOULD be,
considering the volume of Irish in Massachusetts!) If anyone could let
me know, either by posting here or by email, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I can't remember the name of the place, but there's a bar or
pub on the road between S. Hadley and Amherst that has Guinness
on tap. So you've got one close to home.

And I'm probably mistaken about this, but there is a small
possibility that Twister's in Amherst has it. (They do have
S.A. on tap, and yes Newcastle Brown.... to the Brits out there
I know, it's not supposed to be in a keg, but we Americans
don't know any better.)

Yeah, I know about the Amherst Ale House on 116...we go there quite a bit :-)
Twister's went under last semester. I know the few places around here
that have it - I wanted to know 'bout Dallas :-)

The Gingerman in Dallas has about 60 different beers on tap,
including draft Guinness! It seems to be a nice pub-type
place, but it gets really crowded late at night. It
is next to the Hard Rock Cafe somewhat close (north) of the
famous Dallas West End (maybe it's famous, i don't know).
I believe it's on Boll street, but check a phonebook or
something to make sure. Hope this helps in your quest
for that fine stout.

Guinness is also available on tap at the several Dalts resturants in town, one is in Prestonwood Center, Addison, and another on Lovers Lane. They manage to serve it cool rather than cold and eschew the "traditional" Texas frozen glasses that produce beer icebergs.

The Gingerman: 2718 Boll, 214-754-8771, open 365/366 days per year.
The *BEST* beer bar in Dallas - Ft. Worth, easily. Second best is
Flips Wine Bar (Italian restaurant) -- excellent food, artist atmosphere,
excellent wine and beer selections and THE place in Dallas for you
single malt afficianados/connoisseurs.

Gingerman gets real crowded on weekend nights. They have 52 - 56 beers
on tap (though some don't count since they have Rolling Rock, Bud, Molson,
Moosehead, and Foster's on tap there).

Top o' my head I can count 7 bars in Dallas, from downtown to N. Dallas
that have Guinness on tap. There are 3-4 Irish bars; Guinness is easy
to find in Dallas. Also, Dallas finally has draught Guinness in cans
now, Finally. Number one: Have Fun!

The address is 2718 Boll St. If you don't find it there try the Tipperary
Inn on Greenville Ave.

Try a bar called the Gingerman. It's on a side street off McKinney Ave.

(sorry I can't remember the name). It's near the Hard Rock Cafe so if

found that, you're close. The Gingerman has LOTS of beer on tap - if any
place has Guinness it will.

The Tipperary Inn is where I usually go for a Guinness on tap. It's at the
corner of Greeneville and Goodwin in the area known as "Lower Greenville"
The owners name is Martin Lombard and he doesn't consider it a suitable draft
unless the shamrock that he draws with the tap in the head stays until the
bottom of the glass. He'll take care of you. They also have Irish bands
throughout the week.

Three other places that come to mind are:

London Tavern, farther south on Greenville next to the Arcadia Theater

Medeval Inn, north on Greenville between Park and Walnut. They have half and
full yards.

and the Mucky Duck Tavern. The original was an English pub that closed last
spring. The existing one was sold out and caters to the north Dallas yuppy
crowd.

Basically, Guinness is not too difficult to find on tap in Dallas.

I had previously E-Mailed the original poster with several suggestions but I wonder
what other Dallasites think of them:

Tipperary Inn (lower Greenville just south of the 'M' streets - about 1/2 block
past Stan's). These people poured about the finest I've ever had. Forget the
`about`.

Mucky Duck in the Prestonwood Mall in Addison. They also have EXCELLENT Pilsner
Urquell's in bottles.

Gingerman's. A little on the yuppy side but lots of choices on tap. Seems like none
of us can remember what street it's on (but can drive there in a heartbeat). Go south
on McKinney and turn west on the next street after you pass Hard Rock. Right across
from the Quadrangle (8.0's, etc.)

Reason enough to avoid it.

None of us mentioned the Medieval Inn/Pub. Yards and half-yards with free
samples.

Caters to scary looking people with many body-piercings/tatoos (the one

I resent that - I could not be described as a yuppy by any stretch of
the imagination. They usually have a good (but too LOUD) band, too.

Hey, I like that place! I went there quite a bit during the summer of
'92 when I was working in Dallas. Also was there once this past August
while in town for a visit. And I don't have any piercings, my wife has
only the standard pierced ears, and neither of us has tatoos or could
be considered scary looking (IMHO). Didn't notice the crowd to be
especially strange either.

Anyway, I found the London Tavern to be great, unassuming place to grab
a Guinness (or Fullers ESB, or any of the other 5-10 beers on tap).
Gingerman has a phenomenal selection, but unfortunately is often a bit
too crowded. The Medievel Inn sucks---too expensive, goofy atmosphere,
etc.
