Have just recently returned from said country, and beg to differ. Not a good
beer-country in my opinion. To be fair I only spent a long weekend there,
and only drank one or two different beers.

I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

I was there two months ago and found at least a handful interesting
beers. However the two main brands Ozujsko Pivo and Karlovacko Ovijetlo Pivo
are sweet, thinnish underhoppedcrap lagers and should be avoided at all
cost. But Tomislav Pivo, a strong dark beer more or less in the same style
as Baltic porters are excellent and available in many places.

In Zagreb there's a German style brewpub called Pivnica Medvedgrad which
serves a range of well tasting lagers + a wheat beer.

I also became very fond of the range from Osjecko Pivovara in Osijek, whose
Osjecko Pivo is more or less a well made Czechish style pilsener, and the
Osjecko Crno 1697 is like dry dark Czechish style lager.

So even if I don't agree with the original poster there are a few highlights
for beer lovers in Croatia.

I' m from croatia and I know ozujsko and karlovacko pivo sucks
I was on some beer festival in Karkovac 2 weeks ago and I had
many beers to taste .There was one very good beer from Jaska
(and the only one I think) but they are not for sale out of that
town.Fuck why the only good beers are made in some small pubs
private resturants.
