Yes to both. Heileman was around for a long time, made mostly cheap
beer, and was merged with either Schlitz or Stroh's about 10 years ago.
Buckhorn was one of their low cost product lines: I drank it in college
in NE Ohio in the early 80s.
If you found it up in the rafters it's probably because there were kids
in the house who kept their stash hidden from their parents. It was
definitely an impoverished kids' beer.

Heileman was acquired by Stroh just ubder two years ago. Buckhornwas brewed by
the Lone Star Brewery of San Antonio, which was closed shortly after the
acquisition. Vist the brewery grounds, and you will find the Buckhorn Museum
still a busy place...and free draft Lone Star beer is given to visitors.
