Pontiac Brewing Tribe in conjunction with the
First Annual Michigan Brewers Festival Presents
BREW-WOW Homebrew Competition

First Round Judging will take place Saturday, July 18th at King Brewing
Company, Pontiac MI.

Best of Show judging will be held at the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer
Festival, July 25, 1998 at Historic Greenmead in Livonia.
The Top three winners will be invited to brew their winning brews at
Detroit Brew Factory and placed on Tap.

Entry Requirements;
You may enter as many beers as you wish, but no more than one entry per
subcategory. All beer must be homebrewed and not brewed on any
commercial property. All entries become the property of the Pontiac
Brewing Tribe
and will not be returned. Obtain entry forms from Jim Lawson,
Registrar 248-543-2835 or E-mail mlyou...@aol.com.

Each entry must include a completed entry form, three bottles and the
entry fee. Entry fees are $5.00 for the first entry, $4.00 for the
second
entry, and $3.00 for each additional entry. Make Checks payable to
Pontiac Brewing
Tribe. We cannot not be responsible for cash
Three (3) 10 to 14 ounce brown bottles per entry. Bottles must not show
any obvious identification marks. Each bottle must have a entry
registration
form rubber banded around it. Do not glue entry registration forms onto
the
bottles.

Send or deliver your entries to King Brewing Company, Attn. Brew-Wow,
895 Oakland Ave., Pontiac, MI 48340 (248-745-5900). All entries must be
received between July 13 and 9:00 p.m .July 17th, 1998.
Please note King's Hours are Monday though Wednesday 10:00 a.m. till
5:00 p.m. and Thursday & Friday 10:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. for carry in
entries.

Categories and Judging
You may enter your beer in any of the following categories . We reserve
the right to consolidate categories with low turn out to assure
sufficient
entries in each final judging category. Judging will be based upon AHA
guidelines.

The first round will award a first, second and third place for each
category or group of categories judged. The second round will decide the

best of
show. All winners will be announced and their awards distributed at the
Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Festival, beginning 4:00 p.m. July 25,
1998. All
decisions by the judges are final.

A minimum score of 30 points out of a possible 50, will be required to
place. First round winners will receive medals. All First place winners
will advance to the second round for Best of Show. The Best of Show
winners,
First,Second and Third, will receive trophies.

TWO GREAT BEER EVENTS IN MICHIGAN THIS SUMMER

LEONARD, MI.?The craft beer industry has taken off in Michigan. In the
last few years, over four dozen such establishments have opened to serve

a fresh locally produced beer to Michigan residents and visitors. In the

last six months, homebrewing has been formally legalized and the
formation of
the Michigan Brewers Guild realized. To celebrate this growing industry
and
to showcase the excellent products being made here in Michigan, two
major beer events have been announced.

The Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Festival will be held at Greenmead in
Livonia Michigan, July 25, 1998. The Festival will showcase the beer and

food of all Michigan Brewers Guild members. The Michigan Brewers Guild
is a non-profit trade member organization dedicated to the promotion of
Michigan brewed beer and consumer education. Greenmead, a turn of the
century
period 92 acre farm, is a National Historic Landmark. Festival attendees

will be
able to visit period buildings, interact with volunteers dressed in
period
attire performing period tasks. A special beer tent will feature
Michigan micro brewed beer, food, breweriana, beer related exhibits and
demonstrations.

The event is co-sponsored by the Livonia Historical Commission,
Merchant's Fine Wine, Orbit Magazine, Michigan Beer Guide and JV
Northwest. Public
welcome, hours are 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $25.00 and are
available at any Michigan Brewers Guild establishment, any Merchants
Fine Wine location
or by mail from Rex Halfpenny, Executive Director, PO Box 648, Leonard,
MI 48367. This first annual event is a fund raiser for the Michigan
Brewers Guild
and is expected to be a sell out.

The Pontiac Brewing Tribe home brew club will produce an American
Homebrewers Association (AHA) sanctioned homebrew competition "Brew-WOW"

in conjunction with the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Festival. All AHA
beer style categories and subcategories will be judged. Entry fees are
$5.00 for
the first 3 bottle entry, $4.00 for the second and $3.00 for each entry
thereafter.
The first round judging will take place at King Brewing Company in
Pontiac
on July 18, 1998. Best of Show judging will take place at the Michigan
Brewers
Guild Summer Festival July 25 at 4:00 p.m. Entries will be accepted at
King
Brewing Company, 895 Oakland Avenue, Pontiac, MI 48340 (248) 745-5900
between July 13 and July 17, 1998. AHA rules of competition will apply.
All
homebrewers are encouraged to participate. Qualified Beer Judge
Certification
Program judges from neighboring states as well as Michigan will be
invited to
