How many of you have ever been to Ft. Collins, CO? The great beers of Ft.
Collins include New Belgium's Fat Tire, Odells 90 Schilling, H.C. Berger
Indigo Pale Ale and Cooper Smith's Dunraven, to name just a few. I heard
once that Ft. Collins has the most breweries/ brewpubs of any city of its
size in the U.S. (pop. @ 100,000) Is this true?
Please post any info. you may have on Ft. Collins beers. Thanks
Mike Hopkins
: Mike,
: I'm from Ft. Collins.
I'm in Ft. Collins.
: Yes, I've heard (and beleive) that Ft. Collins has
: more pubs and breweries for it's population than any town in the US. I'd
: also been told that Ft. Fun has more gallons per person brewed than Munich.
Burp.
: A great place in Ft. Colllins is the Mountain Tap. They don't make any
: beer, but they feature practically every beer brewed in Colorado. Colorado
: makes some really great beers, and a place like Mountian Tap should be a
: gold mine.
Yep they have 24 taps and two beer engines. They have a small selection of
wine, no hard liquor and don't carry any megaswill type products. A great
place to sample beer. Oh, and live music five nights a week.
: Check the brew news for the schedule of "Foam on the Range" tours. These
: were popular a couple years ago. These were Greyhound type busses with
: beer on tap, driving from city to city, pub to pub from Ft. Collins to
: Boulder to Denver and Back.
Think Old Chicago use to sponsor these. Haven't heard of one in a while.
: The Ft. Collins brewers also like to experiment a lot. They seem to always
: want to come up with something new. The varieties of beer there are endless.
Yes! We get a number of specialty beers each year.
: Unfortunately, Ft. Collins is "growing" like the rest of Colorado. Since
: this kind of "growth" usually = DESTRUCTION, we'll see how long the Fort,
: or any other pleasant town in Colorado can remain pleasant. Let's just
: hope the newcomers don't ruin the beer and coffee scene!
Its still alive and well but FtC is growing way too fast.
: Oh yes, those of you reading this who have never been to Colorado.....
: It sucks! Stay Away!!! The weather is bad!!! Nothing to do there!!!!
: No beer in Colorado!!!! You don't want to go there!!!! Go to New York
: or California!!!!! :)
Yes the above paragraph is all true. Its also sad to see all the beggers
on the street trying to get enough money to buy their next pint of Fat
Tire..........
: Cheers,
: Ron
# I lived there for almost two years and couldn't agree more about your list
# of great beers. 90 Schilling (sp?) is my favorite. I really should
# know how to spell it since I have a tap handle that I bought from
# the brewery. I've heard that they may start bottling, which would be
# great. The Mountain Tap is a great place to drink all of Fort Collins'
# beers, and lot of other microbrews. My biggest complaint is that Fort
# Collins only has one brewpub. CooperSmith's is a nice place, but I
# think the beer is inconsistent. Sometimes it's pretty good, sometimes it
# lacks body. Great pool tables, though.
Old Colorado Brewing is going again in the Casa de Colorado bar. They
have six or seven of their own brews on tap there. Kind of a strange
brewpub though, more of a working mans type of place (as they say).
But it does qualify as the second brewpub in town. The best thing about
FtC is that its almost impossible to find a bar with fresh micros on tap.
# And don't forget the biggest microbrewery in Fort Collins: Budweiser.
# Oh wait, they used to be a microbrewery, but then they got bigger - and
# better. Whatever.
I try to ignore it, but its pretty hard. I drive by it on the way to/from
work.
