Hey all!

Just curious. I know SnakeBite is illegal here in the UK, I've heard
it creates some sort of poison when you mix the two (all hearsay) and
maybe a hallouncogen?

Can anyone tell me what happens when a snakebite is made, and what is
so bad about it to make it illegal. Also, what does the stuff do to
you (apart from get you pissed very quickly!)?

Thanks for any responses to my Questions :)

I suspect this is pure urban legend. I've never heard of any of this before.

Snakebite gets people drunk quickly by default - the only people who drink
this vile concoction are youngsters with little tolerance to alcohol.

To me it seems pointless to mix two drinks together with a result that
tastes worse than either of the ingredients. Add to this that many
snakebites are made from mixing such brews as Carling Black Label and
Strongbow and you soon see what daft way it is to enjoy a drink.

snakebite is not illegal in the UK, it is sold in all pubs, clubs and
bars around the countries.
It is lager and cider mixed in a pint glass, topped with blackcurrent!

It's not illegal, but most pubs/bars don't sell it as it tends to be drunk
mostly by youngsters who seem to become very drunk very quickly. Not good
when your the landlord.

Really? That seems pretty tame compared to what you'll get if you order a
snakebite in a bar here in Montreal:

I work for Wetherspoon Pub Chain (big pub company in the UK)
Snakebite is not supposed top be sold mixed you can sell half a larger and
half a cider but you should not sell them mixed in a pint glass as you can
not give the ABV for this drink.
Snakebites are just one pf those drinks that taste good to alot of people
and BLACKCURRANT IS NOT ADDED
A double vodka and red bull is another one or a blue wkd and cockburns port.
Working in the pub trade we come up with some great mixtures and people are
stupid enough to drink them

Errrmmm... that would rule out lager shandies, vodka and orange etc.
Anyhow, it is not difficult to work out the ABV for a mixed drink.

e.g. half lager @ 4% ABV + half cider @ 4.5% ABV =
Pint of snakebite at 4.25% ABV.

yes it is hard to work out ABV you don't just halve it

If it's half cider and half "larger" then one certainly
does just add up the alcohol content and half the result.
It's not much more complicated for any other ratio.
More importantly, you'll never magically get more alcohol
than you put into the drink.
