I think most of the people on Facebook by now know that my mother is in
hospital. She was losing the feeling in her hands and feet, and when
the carpal tunnel op didn't work, the doctors looked elsewhere for the
problem and discovered that she has/had spinal compression, presumably
as a result of bony growths caused by arthritis. She was operated on
last week Wednesday, and has started regaining feeling in her legs,
though not in her hands, and has managed to walk a bit.

On Tuesday night she was in considerable pain, which, to add insult to
injury, was a result of gall stones!!! But last night when I spoke to
her on Skype she seemed more cheerful, though frustrated at having to
stay in bed. I know she's missing her newsgroups!

Thanks for the news, Cath! Please let Joyce know we're all sending
prayers and good thoughts her way. I hope her hands respond soon - my
Mum has the same problem, so I know how awfully depressing it is!
Hopefully, we'll be hearing from Joyce herself before too long. :D

I was a bit behind on reading alt.beenz. How is your mother doing? I
hope she's well and out of the hospital by now! Give her my love from
North Dakota!

Yes! We haven't had any news of Joyce in quite a while. How's she doing,
Cath?

She's out of hospital, and was put into a rehab centre. They then sent
her home as the Medical Aid wasn't willing to pay for it, but after a
few days at home they decided they could! So she's back in the rehab
centre, where she is forced to exercise, which is good for her! I
thought she didn't have email, but apparently she does, and she'd love
to hear from you all. She's on joyceRE...@africanbush.co.za

I don't speak to her as often as I'd like, on Skype, because I'm not
always available when she is.
