That's Citadel, as in a fortified structure.

What is the telnet address for piggy? What is it's full name? I and others
would be interested in QBBS if it could run on a Minix or Coherent setup.
I run Remote Access currently and it is similar but it is only MS-DOS.

Be warned.. QBBS does not mean QuickBBS.. It means QueBBS..
But the sources and patches for it are at piggy..
Heres the FTP address..

piggy.ucsb.edu (128.111.72.50). Don't telnet to it though. Use ftp. If
you don't know how, read the manual.
The QueBBS files are in /pub/coherent/incoming currently, but will be
moved to an appropriate directory as soon as I have a chance to get
things organized.

The address is piggy.ucsb.edu -- but I made a small blunder, Grendel. The
name of the program is QueBBS, not QBBS (which is a MS-DOS BBS package).
Apologies for that. QueBBS is for *NIX.

They are QueBBS not QBBS. They are two seperate things. QBBS is a
popular fidonet compatible BBS program. QueBBS is something someone at a
University wrote to have a BBS.
Sorry, but I want the FidoNet compatibility...

is QueBBS written specifically for coherent - or was it originally
a UNIX based BBS that someone ported to coherent?

Hello Larry.
QueBBS is an original UNIX based BBS, ported to Coherent by Joachim Riedel.
Isn't that what I said?
If you really must reply, please try to trim the original article down.
QueBBS was written for generic UNIX (if there was such a thing). It just
happened that it was just small enough for Coherent so that porting it
wasn't to difficult. On piggy.ucsb.edu are the original QueBBS sources
and the patches to make it work on Coherent.

QueBBS was/is a UNIX based BBS written by Dean Roehrich of North
Dakota State University Computer Center.
The "patches" that you will find of piggy were done by Joachim
Riedel, which from my understanding does a lot of porting to
Coherent.

BZZZZZTTTT! Wrong. QBBS is a -CP/M- package. What you're
talking about is QuickBBS, which definitely is an MS-DOS package.
If you doubt me, take a copy of the directory at SIMTEL20 under
PD1:<CPM.QBBS>.

Are you aware of anyone running it under generic (grin) unix?

And QuickBBS is usually abbreviated QBBS since CP/M is obsolete and not
that many people run it and its programs.

Well, the author runs it under... (why don't we stop this generic
business) unix (System V.3.2 (Interactive Systems Corp, v2.02,
on a Zenith 16MHz 80386)). At least that's what the
documentation states.
I have logged in a few times (I believe it's on
plains.nodak.edu) and it's q very well written program. It could
use some added featurs, but then again, what couldn't?
Oh-oh.
> And QuickBBS is usually abbreviated QBBS...
I personally will not abbreviate the name in future references
(if any) to the MS-DOS program.
> since CP/M is obsolete and not

Even if "not that many people run it and its programs", it is NOT
obsolete, even if it's in the smallest possible way. Hey, if it
works and does what you need it to do, why abandon it? (I use
both CP/M -AND- MS-DOS).
And I'm NOT about to completely abandon it.
