Hello All,

First off...I'm so glad to see DOVE-Net active. Setting up my BBS has been a
hoot. Thanks everyone for keeping this active. At any rate, I think I'm in
the right group when I ask this question. I've been looking up some other
Synchronet BBS's and found a shell that I really liked. I inserted it in my
BBS and now I pop an error that says it can't find menu.bin. I looked
throughout the directory structure and it's nowhere to be found. Consequently,
there appears to be another shell that doesn't show up called Windows shell
that doesn't come up when I telnet in. I have no idea what it is, but I was
just curious.

I did some searches and found that menu.bin was on an ftp site called
ftp.synchro.net (or something like that). When I looked for it there, it's no
longer there.

Can any of you nice folks steer me in the right direction? Thanks for you help
and hopefully, I will get to become an active member on DOVE-Net.

Thanks again!!

-Tony

Are you sure it was menu.bin, and not menu.js?

As for the windows shell, it was designed for a special client (same
one early versions of AOL was based on) that never really took off.
I've personally tried to track down the client software for it, but
couldn't make it work as SBBS has kinda left it behind and crippled in
the dust. Honestly, internet protocols have pretty much replaced the
functionality of that (WIP) protocol anyways.

For those type of files (core BBS files), try cvs.synchro.net.
menu.js, for instance, is in /exec.

I don't recognize the filename menu.bin... can you give more details about this
shell you're trying to use? The Windows Shell is for WIP clients, which don't
exist anymore.

Hello Digital Man...I will tell you what I know. When I go to the Windows
Configuration, I then click BBS, Configure, the Command Shells. When I click
insert, an option called Menu list appears. When I make that my default when I
login, I then pop the error in the terminal services section when I try to
login. I also see the same error pop-up in my secure shell, rlogin, or telnet
right after I login to the BBS.

I made the assumption that that shell was for one I saw on a BBS. Instead of
menus, it simulated your basic menu system where the different sections were at
the top grouped by topic instead of basic menus.

Again, I'm really new at this, so hopefully I'm conveying my message properly.

Thanks Dreamer!! I will check it out. I thought the error popped as menu.bin
though. I could be wrong, but will playe with it again soon. Thanks for the
response!

It sounds like you created a "Command shell" called "menu", but you don't
actually *have* such command-shell, so just delete it from SCFG. That would be
my advice.
