I am trying to make custom menus for my various external programs/games/doors
sections and in reviewing "External Programs Menu" on the wiki page I created
an ANSI .msg file and .ans file. I created and saved these files in
c:\sbbs\text\menu and with the file name of "xtrnmenu_games.msg" &
"xtrnmenu_games.ans" for my GAMES external program section. Yet Synchronet
still shows the default menu.

* I made the .ans version in the event the .MSG does not disply ANSI.

Do I need to edit my global settings by adding the STRNMENU section to the
modopts.ini for these custom menu files to work?
If I do this mod will it carry over to future updated versions on Synchronet
or do I have to edit this modopts.ini file each time Synchronet is updated?

Thanks!

When you update Synchronet BBS, it comes with default options and will be
overwritten.

That is absolutely incorrect, assuming an update is done properly.

The proper name would be "xtrn2.msg", assuming the GAMES section is the
second listed section in your external menu. If it's the third listed,
then the name would be "xtrn3.msg", and so on.

Look here: http://wiki.synchro.net/custom:menu_files#optional

You don't need the .ans version at all.

No. What you're asking about has nothing to do with modopts.ini.

... Nothing is so smiple that it can't get screwed up.

The corret filename would be xtrngames.*.

See http://wiki.synchro.net/custom:menu_files for details.

Okay, but it's an extremely rare case where you would need both. I suggest just using one or the other.

No.

No files in the ctrl directory are over-written during an update, unless you've
done something weird or wrong in your setup.
