Delete the old di.bat and dobc31.bat files. They are replaced by one
file, pcbsrc.bat. It's better.

Ah ha. Turns out that's exactly what I had done too as I progressed
through making more of the system compile. However, I simply integrated
a build of pcbkit_l.lib into the LIBS/SOURCE/TOOLKIT makefile in addition
to the build it already was doing.

There is also a bug in the LIBS cfg file it seems. -DLIB isn't defined.
When you define it, some other issues crop up... I'm still working through
a couple of those.

I'll also probably end up renaming "MAIN" to "PCB". That seems to match
the original directory structure that clark used... that's confirmed
within the makefiles from the extra utilities.

I shortened libs to lib, and used the other names unchanged for the
directory names. That's the way I found it on the net, and I'm not
changing it now, even if CDC used something else in their makefiles.

LIB had no makefiles at all, I had to create them from scratch to get
things building. In whatever makefiles do exist, a simple substitution
of PCB -> MAIN does not obscure their history.

What's done is done. Time to move forward, and change PCB to MAIN as
needed.

I guess over the years people just kept adding to the archive. I wonder what happened to all the library make files. and thanks to all for all the work everyone has done to make parts of it compile.

pcb-util is 815k
and I found a pcbolibs.zip at 235k

Comparing "k" size is inconclusive. I need to know exact byte size.

Look at "properties" of each file, and tell me its size (not the size on
disk).

I tested a build on WIN98, works the same as WINXP.

But I found some build glitches while testing. If you rerun pcbsrc.bat,
it zaps the "compiler" environment variable. Then you can't do a clean
and rerun of compile.bat, without exiting to start a new command window.
The environment variable that should be zapped is "bcroot".

And WIN98 doesn't like the syntax of the DEL command in lib\built.cat.

Here are fixes I will roll into the next release. Apply pcbsrc.dif to
both pcbsrc.baz and pcbsrc.bat.

Two of those match my size on disk. That's not what I need. Please
check again. I need the exact byte size of each file, *NOT* its size on
disk.

Create an account and start uploading files. Find the URL for one of
the files you uploaded. All I need is one URL. That will take me to
your folder, which will list all the files your are sharing.

Unfortunately, if I want to build against it, this 16bit code will need
to get migrated to a 32bit target. That's not a simple task....

Which leads me back to my original question: if CDC provided vmdata.lib
and vmdata.h, then we can just drop them in. I'm guessing they did not.

Noticed a bug.
PCBoard dont follow/obey max nodes.
you can compile for what ever node count you want.
but if you use the /NODE: varible in your batch files it will follow that. i.e. I compiled for 2 nodes. but used /NODE:5 in my batch file. and that node comes up as node 5 with now over node count warning.

The node count you compile for is what you see in PCBMoni (from the call
waiting screen). Try that, and tell me how many nodes you see.

hmm, that shows correct.
wonder where the node control code was,
the one that checked your license and would only let you run that amount. plus the 1 sysop node.

Doesn't matter, since you can make any node count you like. I like 25
because it only takes up one screen in PCBMoni. Who will ever use more
than that? Probably nobody, since there are only about 5 people world
wide still interested in PCBoard. :-/

found something interesting. I thought only clark had to make you a SER license key for your version and node count. but I found this disc inage here:
http://www.wykeradio.org/pcboardbbs/
and you are suppost to enter your cdrom code and it generates your custom SER file on install. I see versions for 2 node to 1000 nodes on it.

For the 15.4 beta, they probably didn't want to be bothered with a lot
of users asking for beta version keys. But since the 15.3 source code
compiles and runs without a key now, the door has no lock.

true. they only thing we dont have now is that vmdata library pcbsetup needs and the old commdrv code for those now antique digiboards.
so we are set unless someone wants to make some radical changes. like make a 32 bit port. or add modern services. but that would be easier starting with synchronet and making it look and act like pcboard.

Vmdata is memory management with swap to ems/xms/disk. It could be
worked around, but why bother, since pcbsetup and the other utilities
never check a license key. No need to rebuild them from source.

The binary commdrv should still work. I don't have any hardware to test
that idea though.

It's doable with the Borland 5.5 compiler. Would take considerable time
and effort though. Not worth it for me.

Modern services like email and nntp are what killed BBS and fidonet in
the first place. Even with a new saddle you can't go far riding a dead
horse.

Maybe someday I will have PCBoard running with fidonet and some games.
But I won't devote serious project time to it. The BBS era was fun, but
it's done.
