Y2K BBS Software?

PcBoard will work till 2027.... they hard coded the dates. If you
have access to Fido check the 2000 conference, a echo dedicated to
the problem.

I used to run a BBS, I stopped for awhile to do some serious research
on the subject. Hardware, and Software wise. It was probably a good thing
on my part, because it soon became aparrent to me that every copy of
BBS software I owned in one form or another was going to fail after the
year 2000, or become incompatible.
In the meantime all the developers that originally owned my
registered BBS packages have either quit developing them, or sold
the rights to someone else. The new developers are in a mad race
to put out a Y2K compliant BBS package, which may or maynot work
after the year 2000. No one can know for sure until that date arrives.
Has anyone heard of any BBS software that is currently Y2K
compliant? I doubt it, but I'm asking???

Osiris v5.0 is Y2K compliant.
All data fields are stored in seconds since midnight xxxx (don't
remember the actual year at this moment) just the way your computer
stores it.

I though Wildcat BBS software was y2k compliant. Although I could be wrong
but I thought I read that it was on their web site

I use Telegard. It's freeware, and Y2K compliant. It just came out with a
new release last month, and is highly supported. You can find it at
www.telegard.net. Check it out.

EXCALIBUR INFORMATION SERVER with INTERNET TCP/IP

Excalibur is a 100% Windows multi-tasking GUI online information
server (or BBS), which we believe to be the perfect ennvironment for
anyone wishing to run a serious BBS or Internet providing service (or
even hobby board). Some of the features are:
* Excellent Graphic Control......
Through the use of indirect images (24bit) and vector graphics, you
can make the system look and feel just about any way you want it.
Indirect images can be sent in several formats (BMP, JPG, GIF, PIC,
ETC.), allowing the sysop control over compression and speed on the
client computer. Vector graphics, as well as screen code (actions,
buttons, hotspots, etc) stay on the host machine and are trasferred to
the client on the fly. The mixture of Vector and Indirect graphics
allow you to blend the perfect mixture to give your users speed as
well as not taking up too much of their hard disk space. You can even
import WMF files into Excalibur's Vector format! 3rd party plugins
give you even more graphic control with features like Animated GIFS
and transparent GIFS.
* Powerful Security..............
Excalibur let's you design your security system just about any way you
want it. With use of flags, you can secure virtually everything a
user can see, from screens, to buttons, to libraries, even down to the
color of a word on a screen. Many SysOps use Excalibur securoty flags
for more than just security. For Example, you may have a system in
which users can choose the theme at login. If they have one flag,
your system has a Space Theme. If they have another, it has a D&D
Theme. Since security flags can be assigned by buttons as well as by
SysOps utilities, the possibilities are endless. Things liketime and
ul/dl limits are controlled easily both within screen and in the Sysop
maint program, Arthur. You can contol time/byte limit per call, day,
week, and even forever, not to mention Upload/Download byte and file

Excalibur is packaged with a design program called Merlin. At first
glance, Merlin appears to be a paint program. But in reality, it is
where you do most of your work. In Merlin, you design your screens,
do most of your security, invoke actions (buttons, hotspots, popups,
plugins, etc.). all in a very easy point and click interface.

When a user is online, you can see and change all kinds of
info//stats. Everything from Time/Byte limits, to # of calls. You
can see where he is, what he is doing, status of downloads, what is in

Excalibur is FAST! Written 100% in C++, it's code is optimized for
speed and size. The terminal is compact to fit on a single disk, and

well on users machines that may be slow or low on memory, but it means
that it is very forgiving on YOUR system resources. As an example,
Cyberspace HQ runs 28 of it's nodes on a Pentium 100 with 32mb of ram,
while also running Excalibur's Grail Database (the engine), and other
applications... All with no noticible slowdown, and an average of 85%
resources available in Windows 95. Nodes even load in an instant. If
you use a front door, The handoff takes only 2 to 3 seconds.
* INTERNET READY............
Excalibur comes free with TCP/IP inbound connectivity. This means
that if you are connected to the net, users can call into your system
either by dialup or across the net. 3rd Party options for internet
outbound connectivity allow you to use Excalibur to provide internet
access! Currently a program called Zedsock makes this possible.
*Multitasking at it's best.....
Excalibur Multitasking allows users to do just about anything, any
time. Upload and download at the same time with little speed

ACTIVATOR(tm) CLIENT/SERVER:
Excalibur client server may be used to launch users into
Activator(tm) client server. This includes automatic installation
of Activator(tm) PPP login digital keys that automate user setup
and PPP login then TCP/IP right into your Excalibur for support.
Activator(tm) client server enables the Excalibur system operator to
log his users into his Excalibur via any NTServer RAS or Unix PPP
dialup connection anywhere worldwide. This enables any Excalibur
system to be instantly reached via local PPP dialups in just one
click. Since most users are logged in tcp/ip the Excalibur operator
may operate unlimited Excalibur tcp/ip nodes on his system. Then
the Excalibur Server may be operated as a fully interactive isp
support system.
The Activator(tm) Client and Database/Server also supplies full
32bit winsocks speed and compliance. The server also gives the
system administrator remote monitoring and disconnection or account
disabling controls over users no matter which network they are
logging in PPP.
