Every windows and mac computer must have pgp
installed for security.
Download windows or mac version of pgp for free
from
http://www.pgp.com/products/freeware.html

At this time the current version of pgp that downloads from those
links is the version 8.1 of pgp. These instructions apply to this
version 8.1 of pgp. If by the time you read this, that pgp version
8.1 is no longer available from the above links, find it by doing a
google search for the file PGP810-PF-W.zip

The file PGP810-PF-W.zip contains the file PGP8.exe and the file
PGP8.exe is the windows instal file for version 8.1 of pgp.
To extract the file PGP8.exe from PGP810-PF-W.zip you need the WinZip
program. Download the WinZip program from here

WinZip can be rendered registered and fully functional by putting

for the name and putting

for the registration number.
Contained within PGP810-PF-W.zip is the file
PGP8.exe and PGP8.exe instals version 8.1 of pgp. These are the
digital signature checksums of the file PGP8.exe

Open the file PGP810-PF-W.zip with WinZip, click Options and then
Configuration in the drop down menu. Then under the View tab check
CRC and click OK. Now when you have PGP810-PF-W.zip opened with
WinZip you can see the CRC value of PGP8.exe under the CRC heading.
If the file PGP8.exe has the CRC value 1fca3d27 you know you have the
exact correct file to instal this version 8.1 of pgp on any windows
computer.

To instal this version 8.1 of pgp follow these
simple instructions:
Extract the file PGP8.exe from PGP810-PF-W.zip
Double click upon PGP8.exe to begin the instal
When you see the User Type screen where it says "Please tell us if
you have existing PGP Keyrings you'd like to use" check "No I'm a New
User" and click the button that says Next.
For the Select Components screen where it says "Choose the components
Setup will install" check/select only one that is PGPdisk Volume
Security. Leave the other 5 components unchecked/unselected and click
the button that says Next.
In the Start Copying Files screen where it says "Review settings
before copying files" make sure the Selected Components show only
Selected Components:
- PGP Key Management (required)
- PGPdisk Volume Security
- PGP Documentation
and click the button that says Next.
When the PGP License Authorization screen appears, close it by
clicking the button that says Later.
When the PGP Key Generation Wizard screen appears, close it by
clicking the button that says Cancel.
When you see the PGP 8.1 Instal Complete screen that says "PGP 8.1
has been successfully installed. Before you can use the program, you
must restart your computer"
check "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" and click the Finish
button.
When the computer starts again, click the little pgp padlock icon at
bottom right of screen and click License. In the PGP License
Authorization screen that appears click the Manual button.
Now you will need to enter the License information exactly as it is
shown below.
Where it says "Name" type
User 2004
Where it says "Organization" type
Group 2004
Where it says "License Number" copy and paste

Now click the Authorize button and close the PGP License screen by
clicking the OK button.

Now configure PGP by clicking the little pgp padlock icon at bottom
right of screen and clicking Options.
Under the General tab uncheck "Share passphrase cache among modules"
and check "Do not cache passphrase".
In the screen of the Servers tab uncheck all 5 options under the
"Synchronize with server upon" header.
On the Advanced tab screen, check all 5 options under the Allowed
Algorithms header. Uncheck where it says "Automatically check for
updates" under the Software Update header. Under the Export Format
header check Compatible. Uncheck where it says "Automatic keyring
backup when PGPkeys closes".

PGP has many security uses. To delete files in
such a way that they can never be recovered even by computer
scientists just right click the file, go to PGP and click Wipe.
To encrypt a file in such a way that it cannot be
accessed without the correct password, right click the file, go to
PGP and click Encrypt. Choose the option of Conventional Encryption
or Self Decrypting Archive to encrypt files to any password of your
choice.

Click the little pgp padlock icon at bottom right
of your screen, go to PGPdisk and click New Disk to make a PGPdisk.
A PGPdisk is a strongly encrypted file that when
you open it with the correct password a new drive letter appears on
your computer. This drive that appears behaves just like an ordinary
drive. You can view pictures and movies on it, you can download files
from the internet to it and use it just like an ordinary drive. When
however you go to PGPdisk and click Unmount All Disks this drive
disappears, only the strongly encrypted file remains. The strongly
encrypted file can only mount the drive when the correct password is
entered. Nothing on these PGPdisk drives can be accessed without the
correct password.

PGP's real claim to fame is that it is a public
key encryption system. Public key encryption secures communication
between people who have never met.
With ordinary encryption, the one key that is the
password is used to both encrypt and decrypt. Ordinary encryption
uses only one key.
With public key encryption, two keys are used. The
public key is used to encrypt and the secret private key is used to
decrypt.
You give everyone your pgp public key. Anyone can
encrypt any type of material with your pgp public key.
Anything that is encrypted with your pgp public
key can only ever be decrypted by you by using your pgp secret
private key.
The time has now come for you to make a pgp key
pair for yourself.
Click the little pgp padlock icon at bottom right of your screen and
click PGPkeys
In the PGPkeys screen that appears click View and check all the
options in the drop down menu.
Now click Keys and click New Key
Click the Expert button and for Key Size put 4096
Type a name and an email address and proceed to make a key pair for
yourself.
Enter a passphrase and click the Next button.
To give people your pgp public key, right click
your pgp key in the PGPkeys screen and left click Copy. Now you can
paste your pgp public key into emails you send, posts you make to
usenet, messages on notice boards and so forth.
To import a person's pgp public key just copy the
person's pgp public key, click the little pgp padlock icon at bottom
right of your screen, go to Clipboard and click Decrypt & Verify.
Then click the Import button.
To encrypt a file to a person's pgp public key,
right click the file, go to PGP and click Encrypt. Then simply drag
the person's pgp public key from the little window that says "Drag
users from this list to the Recipients list" to the little window
that says "Recipients"
PGP can encrypt every type of binary file such as
jpg pictures, zip files, mpg movies and so forth.
PGP can also encrypt text. Just write whatever you
wish in a .txt notepad file. Click the little pgp padlock icon at
bottom right of your screen, go to Current Window and click Encrypt.
You can also copy the text you wish to encrypt,
click the little pgp padlock icon at bottom right of your screen, go
to Clipboard and click Encrypt to encrypt the contents of the
clipboard.

Your encryption is only as strong as the password
you use.
If you use something like your date of birth or a
word that is in any dictionary, then you have no security at all.

No power exists that can force you to reveal a password.
No power exists that can break the encryption of pgp.
