2. POLICY FOR INCLUSION
This list notes film and television appearances of children of ages 4
to 14 years. Should there be a deviation from this policy, which
occurs infrequently, the inclusion is explained for those readers who
would prefer these particular young people not be included.
3. HISTORY OF THE LIST
Barefoot children appear in many films, and some of the movies include
the bottoms of boys' or girls' feet in close-ups for long, lingering
times. Here are some films with scenes where girls or boys appear
barefoot and usually show the bottoms of their feet. They are listed
from the earliest movies to movies of today. The age of the child
noted for each film is the actual age they were when the movie was
shot, not when it was finally released to theaters. (For example,
"Misunderstood" was filmed in 1982, when Henry Thomas was 10 years old
and Huckleberry Fox was 7 years old, but it was not released until
1984 when they were 12 and 9, respectively.) In some cases, the age
of the child is estimated if research fails to find a verifiable
biography but if other material, such as interviews, helps to
establish the age as closely as possible.
"Children's Feet in Cinema" was first published in 1996 on several
newsgroups and listed boyfeet and girlfeet together in a mixed, single
column. It was later adapted for use by The Young Foot Lovers
Adoration Society (TYFLAS), a now-defunct website which edited the
list to show only girlfeet. This new list is presented here in a
revised format of its original, in which boyfeet are once again listed
with girlfeet. Unlike the original posting, however, the list has
been separated for convenience into a boyfeet grouping and a girlfeet
grouping. Films where both boys and girls appear barefoot in the same
film are listed under "Girlfeet/Boyfeet." Since this list began
publishing again in late 2003, two new additions have been added:
"Animated Girlfeet and Boyfeet," in which feature-length cartoons show
well-drawn little girls' and boys' feet, and "Television Girlfeet and
Boyfeet," which lists certain episodes from past and current series
which
feature boy and girl cast members in bare feet. Where a cartoon has
appeared on television as a series, it is listed under "Animated
Girlfeet and Boyfeet," which normally lists feature-length films,
rather than "Television Girlfeet and Boyfeet," to avoid confusion.
The list is revised and re-posted on newsgroups on an unscheduled
basis.
4. GIRLFEET
* "Little Miss Marker" 1934. Shirley Temple, 5 years old, puts on
her pajamas and jumps into Adolphe Menjou's bed, "commandeering" it
from him and forcing him to sleep in a chair. She shows her feet as
she does so, and reveals the bottoms of her feet quickly from a medium
distance.
* "Curly Top" 1935. Shirley Temple, 7 years old, lies on her stomach
on the beach with her feet in the air. She first shows the bottoms of
her feet in medium close-up with the camera in front of her, then in
close-up when she lowers her legs to show her soles to the camera
behind her. Earlier she also appears barefoot in medium close-up
while dancing as a hula girl in lei and grass skirt.
* "Child Bride" 1938. Shirley Mills, 12 years old, is barefoot
throughout this film set in the rural American backwoods of the
1930s. Her feet are seen in various distances from long shots to
close-up, although most are medium to medium close-up. Her soles
appear in several scenes.
* "Kathleen" 1941. Shirley Temple, 13 years old, hurts her big toe
and her maid puts a bandage on it. The film also features a close-up
of the sole of her foot.
* "Meet Me in St. Louis" 1944. Margaret O'Brien, 7 years old, lies
on her stomach on a bed with her feet in the air as she talks with her
older sisters. Her soles show directly to the camera in medium close-
up.
* "National Velvet" 1944. Elizabeth Taylor, 12 years old, lies on
her back with her feet out in front of her on her bed, and then lies
on her stomach on her mother's bed with her feet in the air and shows
the bottoms of her feet to the camera. Both scenes are in medium
close-up.
* "Sister Kenny" 1946. Doreen McCann, about 6 years old, lies on a
gurney barefoot as she is given a medical exam for polio. The scene
is in medium close-up.
* "Don't Bother to Knock" 1952. Donna Corcoran, 9 years old, lies
barefoot and bound hands and feet in her pajamas on a bed after a
psychotic babysitter has tied her up. The camera slowly pans in close-
up from her feet, soles upward, along her body to her head.
* "Pollyanna" 1960. Hayley Mills, 13 years old, is lifted out of bed
in her nightgown and carried to the upper staircase, where she sees a
crowd gathered below in her honor. The camera provides a medium shot
of her bare feet as she is picked up and then carried across the
balcony.
* "The Parent Trap" 1961. Susan Henning, about 13 years old, is the
camera photo double of Hayley Mills in this tale of separated twins
who meet at camp, and Susan's face never prominently appears to the
camera. However, in the underwater scene where Hayley is balancing
her twin above her, the bare feet resting on Hayley's shoulders in
medium close-up are those of Susan, later a successful child model and
Miss Teen USA. Susan's feet are obscured somewhat by Hayley's hands
as she holds Susan's ankles.
* "Cape Fear" 1962. Lori Martin, 14 years old, shows the bottoms of
her feet in medium close-up as she scrubs the upper deck of a boat in
a marina. She continues to show her feet as she stands and greets
friends passing by in another boat.
* "To Kill a Mockingbird" 1962. Mary Badham, 9 years old, walks home
barefoot from school while wearing a costume and showing the bottoms
of her feet as she walks. The views of her feet are in medium close-
up.
* "Papa's Delicate Condition" 1963. Linda Bruhl, 7 years old, wears
pajamas while being carried barefoot up the stairs by her on-screen
father, who pauses at the top of the stairs to talk with the mother.
While the parents talk, Linda's soles show directly to the camera in
medium close-up. Her father then carries Linda into her bedroom where
her feet continue to be visible in medium distance throughout the
scene.
* "The Sound of Music" 1965. Angela Cartwright, 12 years old, Debbie
Turner, 8 years old, and Kym Karath, 6 years old, appear barefoot with
two on-screen older sisters, also barefoot, during the famous "My
Favorite Things" song montage. For the purposes of this list, one
older sister played by Charmian Carr, 22 years old, cannot be
considered a child, and the other older sister Heather Menzies, 15
years old, may be considered a child only by some moviegoers.
* "This Property is Condemned" 1966. Mary Badham, 13 years old,
walks about barefoot in this tale of rural poverty, where her feet are
seen in medium to medium close-up distances.
* "Pippi Longstocking" 1969. Inger Nilsson, 10 years old, appears
barefoot in one scene when she soaks her feet in a large bucket of
water, pours the rest on the floor, puts on foot scrubbers and
proceeds to skate around the house cleaning the floor. The views of
her feet are in medium close-up.
* "Alice in the Cities" 1970. Yella Rottlander, about 9 years old,
wears a swimsuit and lounges on a blanket on her stomach with her bare
soles in the air and moves them back and forth in medium close-up.
* "The Beguiled" 1971. Pamelyn Ferdin, 11 years old, displays her
bare feet from beginning to end, finally showing the bottom of one of
her feet in close-up as she kneels to grieve over a slain pet. Her
entire sole is viewable in letterbox format, but only partially
otherwise. (This entry originally stated her age as 12, but a review
of the release date of the film, March 21, 1971, compared with
Pamelyn's birthdate of February 4, 1959, indicates she was 11 when the
film was shot, since it is unlikely the film wrapped and was released
only seven weeks after she turned 12.)
* "Napoleon and Samantha" 1972. Jodie Foster, 9 years old, is shown
at a long distance barefoot as she dangles her feet from a pier into
the water.
* "The Exorcist" 1973. Linda Blair, 13 years old, comes downstairs
in her nightgown and wets the carpet in her "possessed" state, and a
brief shot of her bare feet in medium close-up is shown. Later her
feet are visible in medium close-up in various bedroom scenes,
particularly as her body is levitating during the exorcism.
* "Malachi's Cove" 1973. Veronica Quilligan, about 12 years old,
lives with her grandfather by the sea and earns her living by
collecting seaweed, and she runs about barefoot during the whole
movie. Views range from medium to medium close-up.
* "Here Comes Pippi Longstocking" 1973. Inger Nilsson, 13 years old,
appears barefoot in a foot and feather scene in a film also known as
"Pippi Goes on Board." Her feet are in medium close-up.
* "The Car" 1977. Kim Richards, 12 years old, and her real-life
sister Kyle Richards, about 9 years old, lie on their backs on top of
the covers in their bedroom as their on-screen father comes to check
on them, and both girls show the soles of their feet toward the camera
in medium close-up.
* "Candleshoe" 1977. Jodie Foster, 14 years old, lies barefoot on a
bed showing her soles, then sits cross-legged, showing her toes. The
scene is in medium close-up to close-up.
* "The Goodbye Girl" 1977. Quinn Cummings, 9 years old, first shows
her feet in medium distance early in the film when she pulls her legs
out from under the covers of the bed she shares with her mother.
Quinn again shows her feet when coming out the bedroom door after her
mother tells the new tenant to go away. When Quinn goes back to bed,
she walks away from the camera and jumps up on the bed to get back
under the covers, and she shows the bottoms of her feet as she does so
in medium distance. In a later scene, after her mother confronts the
new tenant over a young woman he has in his room, Quinn pulls off her
shoes and socks as she sits on the edge of the bed and reveals her
right sole to the camera in medium close-up as well as side angles of
her feet. As the scene continues, she climbs off the bed to put her
socks in the hamper and gives additional views of her feet. In a
scene nearer the end of the film, when the tenant comes home
drunk, Quinn is standing barefoot in the doorway of the bedroom as
her mother puts him to bed. In a still later scene, Quinn is playing
dress-up as she talks to her mother and walks away from the camera to
reveal her bare soles, then Quinn sits in a chair and pulls on
oversize high-heel shoes, showing in medium distance her left sole as
she does.
* "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" 1977. Adrienne Campbell, 6
years old, and her brothers are awakened by their father, and she is
barefoot and dangles her foot clearly over the side of the bed in
medium close-up.
* "Pretty Baby" 1978. Brooke Shields, 12 years old, shows the
bottoms of her feet when she slides down a banister, gets her legs
painted, and gets picked up for a spanking. The views range from
medium to medium close-up.
* "Piranha" 1978. Numerous children (identities and ages not
available here) splash about in a lagoon and show their feet in medium
close-up.
* "Body Heat" 1981. Carola McGuinness, about 10 years old, appears
in medium distance in a brief scene in which she is barefoot in her
nightgown. She observes an adult couple engaging in something which
children should not see and, shocked, she turns to run away, revealing
her soles as she does so. Freeze-frame is required to see her feet
well.
* "Poltergeist" 1982. Heather O'Rourke, 5 years old, has a number of
barefoot scenes in medium close-up as she walks about in her pajamas
in her bedroom and in front of the television, often showing her soles
behind her as she sits on her folded legs.
* "Annie" 1982. Aileen Quinn, 10 years old, stars in this famous
story of little girl orphans in New York City. She and her numerous
"sister" orphans, including Toni Ann Gisondi, 6 years old, who plays
the youngest orphan Molly, display their feet many times in medium
distance during the opening bedroom scene as they sing the first
number.
* "Anna to the Infinite Power" 1983. Martha Byrne, 12 years old,
shows the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she climbs into
small hiding places to escape from her captors. In another scene she
appears barefoot in medium close-up while lying on her bed in her
cell, but her feet can only be seen in letterbox format; they are
truncated in full-screen format.
* "Supergirl - DVD Director's Cut" 1984. In the original release
this scene was removed (and so names and ages are not available here),
but in the DVD edition it is restored and features numerous little
girls ranging from 5 to 10 years old who appear barefoot throughout
the scene. It takes place just after the opening credits when
Supergirl is walking through the city in which the barefoot extras
appear.
* "Cat's Eye" 1985. Drew Barrymore, 10 years old, lies in bed asleep
with her foot out from under the covers as a tiny gremlin crawls up
the side of her bed. The camera shows an extreme close-up of the
bottom of her foot.
* "Surviving: A Family in Crisis" 1985. Heather O'Rourke, 8 years
old, appears in this TV-movie while lying on her bed talking to her
brother and dangling her feet behind her in medium close-up. A few
minutes later she is sitting up, legs crossed, and playing with her
toes.
* "The Coca-Cola Kid" 1985. Rebecca Smart, 8 years old, shows her
feet in close-up as she washes them while taking a shower. She also
appears barefoot in other scenes throughout the movie with view
ranging from medium to medium close-up distances.
* "My Life as a Dog" 1985. Johanna Udehn, 11 years old, extends her
bare feet to the outside grass as she lies inside a large section of
water pipeline while talking with her young boyfriend. Her soles
clearly show in medium close-up while the rest of her is hidden from
view inside the pipeline as the young boy reads from a newspaper on
the grass. This is a Swedish-language film available with subtitles.
* "Parent Trap II" 1986. Carrie Kei Heim, 12 years old, lies on her
stomach on her bed with her feet in the air keeping time to music from
the radio. The opening shot is a tight close-up of her feet as they
rhythmically move, then the camera dollies back to reveal Carrie's
entire self on her bed.
* "Aliens" 1986. Carrie Henn, 9 years old, shows her soles in medium
close-up as she scampers away from a rescue crew at a space outpost.
In the first view of her feet, she crawls through a hole into an
adjoining room as she tries to escape. The scene switches to inside
the room where she hunkers down on the balls of her feet, trying to
prevent her rescuer from following her through the hole, and shows her
soles again in doing so. The views are rapid and dimly lit and
require freeze-frame and zoom with a DVD remote.
* "'Round Midnight" 1986. Gabrielle Haker, 11 years old, dances on
the beach and shows the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she
twirls.
* "Clan of the Cave Bear" 1986. Emma Floria, about 10 years old,
appears barefoot in all her scenes as a young cave girl in prehistoric
times. In one brief scene as she's ascending a slope of rock inside a
cave, her feet are shown from the side in medium close-up.
* "Poltergeist II: The Other Side" 1986. Heather O'Rourke, 9 years
old, offers a very brief glimpse of her feet in medium close-up in
this sequel. It occurs when she stands up and walks towards the toy
telephone near the beginning of the film.
* "The Fig Tree" 1987. Karron Graves, about 10 years old, shows the
bottoms of her feet in medium close-up in this TV-movie when she lies
down on her side on her bed and pulls her legs up to her.
* "Le Grand Chemin" 1987. Vanessa Guedj, 10 years old, walks about
and climbs a tree barefoot in this story of a Parisian boy sent to
relatives one summer in rural France. Vanessa plays the girl next
door who befriends the boy and shows all angles of her feet during her
extensive screen time, including her soles, in views ranging from
medium to medium close-up. This French-language film, whose title
translates to "The Grand Highway," is available in subtitles.
* "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" 1988. Sarah Polley, 9 years
old, plunges into the ocean while wearing a nightgown and is barefoot
when she emerges from the water on the beach. Her feet are seen in
medium distance. She later runs after the baron and a quick glimpse
is seen of her soles in medium distance shots as she runs.
* "Beaches" 1988. Grace Johnston, about 8 years old, and Marcie
Leeds, about 11 years old, appear barefoot at various points in this
film, although Marcie appears in only one brief scene in which her
feet appear, near the beginning of the film when she is lying on a
couch and writing a letter. Most of the barefoot scenes show Grace in
numerous appearances on the beach in medium distance, revealing
various angles of her feet. Near the end of the film, her soon-to-be
adoptive mother removes Grace's socks as the child lies on her side on
her bed with her head nearest the camera and her legs in the
background, and Grace's soles are shown in medium close-up, although
they are slightly out of focus.
* "The Shiralee" 1988. Rebecca Smart, 11 years old, stars in this
nostalgic Australian film as the newly discovered daughter of a
wandering swagman and appears barefoot through most of the film in
medium to medium close-up distances. Although this film was
originally a mini-series, it is sometimes broadcast as a single
feature.
* "Critters 2" 1988. Lindsay Parker, 7 years old, is shown sleeping
on top of her bed as the camera slowly pans over her bare soles up to
her face. In another scene, there is also an extreme close-up of her
sole as it dangles off the bed.
* "The Good Mother" 1988. Asia Vieira, 6 years old, displays a few
brief glimpses of her feet in medium close-up as she plays about the
residence she shares with her single mother.
* "Zelly and Me" 1988. Alexandra Johnes, about 10 years old, has a
lingering close-up shot of her bare foot as she dangles it while
sitting on the edge of her bed.
* "Three Fugitives" 1989. Sarah Rowland Doroff, 7 years old, shows
the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she is being carried up
the stairs to the bedroom and later when being lifted from a tub after
her bath.
* "Troop Beverly Hills" 1989. Jenny Lewis, 11 years old, Kellie
Martin, 13 years old, Ami Foster, 13 years old, and many other pre-
teen and barely-teen actresses are seen barefoot in medium distance as
they sit around in their pajamas telling ghost stories in a hotel.
Later, some members of the troop show their soles during a pedicure at
a salon when they have cotton between their toes.
* "Field of Dreams" 1989. Gaby Hoffman, 6 years old, is shown
barefoot in medium close-up when she is carried to bed in her pajamas
as she sleeps in the arms of her father.
* "Uncle Buck" 1989. Gaby Hoffmann, 7 years old, appears barefoot in
this movie several times, but especially clearly when she refuses to
sleep in her own bed and ends up sleeping with her Uncle Buck on top
of the covers. Her feet appear in medium close-up.
* "The Challengers" 1989. Gema Zamprogna, 12 years old, displays her
bare feet while lying down upon and then sitting up on a couch in this
made-for-cable Canadian production. The view of Gema's feet is medium
close-up.
* "Arachnophobia" 1990. Marlene Katz, 10 years old, sits on her
knees in her pajamas with the camera behind her as a small spider
approaches her bare feet, shown bottoms-up in a close-up shot as she
is sitting.
* "Three Men and a Little Lady" 1990. Robin Weisman, 6 years old,
shows her feet in medium close-up while being tickled by her on-screen
adopted dad. (Previous editions had listed her age as "about 7", but
research shows she turned 6 a month before filming began.)
* "Mermaids" 1990. Christina Ricci, 10 years old, tries out in
competition for a swimming match and shows the bottoms of her feet in
medium close-up as they break from the water's surface while she kicks
her legs.
* "Regarding Henry" 1991. Mikki Allen, 12 years old, is barefoot as
she is carried on her father's back into the kitchen, but her feet in
medium distance are best seen in letterbox format, since in full frame
the view is slightly obscured. In another scene, she pulls her sock
down to the halfway point of her foot to reveal a scar on her ankle in
close-up. The heel is clearly shown but not the sole. (Note:
Mikki's age is listed as 12 in this entry since she was mostly 12
during shooting, but there is a possibility she may have been 13 in
her barefoot and near-barefoot scenes. She turned 13 on November 15,
1990, and the shooting schedule was September 4 - December 12, 1990.)
* "My Girl" 1991. Anna Chlumsky, 10 years old, gets into bed and
shows the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she pulls the
covers over her after getting her hair brushed by her soon-to-be
stepmother.
* "Return to the Blue Lagoon" 1991. Courtney Phillips, about 10
years old, who most often is listed in film credits as Courtney
Barilla, appears barefoot in medium close-up during a very brief
appearance.
* "Switched at Birth" 1991. Ariana Richards, 11 years old, shows her
feet in this TV-movie of a child who discovers she belongs
biologically to another family. In one scene, she is wearing slippers
while lying on her stomach on her bed with her legs in the air, and
her father comes in and removes the slippers to reveal her bare soles
to the camera in medium close-up.
* "Curly Sue" 1991. Alisan Porter, 9 years old, is sitting in a
rubber ring in the bathtub when she lifts her legs out of the water
and shows her bare feet in medium close-up.
* "The Prince of Tides" 1991. Brandlyn Whitaker, about 5 years old,
lives by the ocean with her family and frequently displays her bare
feet while in her swimsuit or nightgown. At one point she crawls onto
her father's lap and shows the bottoms of her feet to the camera in
medium close-up. Her two sisters are played by Lindsay Wray, 14 years
old, and Maggie Collier, about 12 years old, who are also barefoot in
some scenes, but Brandlyn's feet provide the best views.
* "Honey, I Blew up the Kid" 1992. Various little girls (names and
ages not available here) show their feet in medium close-up while
watching a magic show.
* "Betrayal of the Dove" 1992. Heather Lind, about 7 years old,
appears barefoot in a couple of scenes in medium close-up views.
* "Heidi" 1993. Noley Thornton, 9 years old, is lying in bed with
her friend Klara and has her bare feet against the end rail of the bed
in this TV mini-series (also available as a single feature). In this
scene, Noley shows the top half of her soles to the camera in medium
close-up. Admirers of girlfeet may find the incomplete shot of her
soles to be unsatisfying but others may find even a half-view to be
worthwhile.
* "They" 1993. Brandlyn Whitaker, about 7 years old, in this TV-
movie also known as "They Watch," shows her feet side-on in medium
close-up when she sits on her dad's lap. In another scene she falls
asleep on the stairs and displays her soles in medium close-up as her
dad takes her to bed.
* "The House of the Spirits" 1993. Sasha Hanau, about 6 years old,
shows her feet in medium to medium close-up when in multiple scenes
she gets out of bed, walks outside at night, stands on a stool while
her mother fits her with a dress, and swims with a boy in a natural
pool at its edge and later gets picked up by her father when he
discovers her there.
* "Miracle on 34th Street" 1994. Mara Wilson, 7 years old, shows the
bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she gets out of bed, walks
over to a trunk and kneels down, with the camera at an angle behind
her.
* "I'll Do Anything" 1994. Whittni Wright, 6 years old, lifts her
feet as her dad tucks her into a sleeping bag in the bedroom, and her
right sole shows close-up to the lens in a slightly out-of-focus
view. In a separate shot, Whittni's feet show in medium distance as
she sits on her bed.
* "No Dessert Dad, Till You Mow the Lawn" 1994. Allison Mack, 11
years old, is singing in the bathtub with her foot resting against the
tap. The scene includes a close-up of her toes, which are painted
purple.
* "Nell" 1994. Heather and Marianne Bomba, 7-year-old twins, jump
off a bank in the woods with the camera below them and show the
bottoms of their feet in medium close-up as they descend.
* "Deep Red" 1994. Lindsey Haun, 9 years old, holds up her right
foot and shows her sole in close-up while riding in the back seat of a
car as she and some adults are escaping from a mad scientist. Midway
through the film she runs barefoot on the beach away from the camera,
with the bottoms of her feet seen with each step from close-up to
distant, although freeze-frame reveals most views to be slightly
blurry. Later when she is strapped to a gurney in the mad scientist's
laboratory, the camera reveals her bare feet in medium close-up as she
lies perpendicular to the camera, her soles pointed to the lens.
* "Corrina, Corrina" 1994. Tina Majorino, 9 years old, has numerous
barefoot scenes in the film, including those in medium close-up in
which she floats on a rubber raft in a backyard pool and sits on a
step with her grandmother. Perhaps the best scene of all, however, is
when she is jumping on her bed with her legs straight out in front of
her, trampoline-style, her soles toward the camera in near close-up as
she descends in slow-motion to the bed. The slow-motion action better
enables a clearer video capture.
* "Burnt by the Sun" 1994. Nadia Mikhalkov, 6 years old, shows the
bottom of her right foot in close-up as her father lifts her ankle
while they float downstream in a rowboat.
* "Children of the Dark" 1994. Lindsey Haun, 9 years old, and
Annalise Ashdown, about 6 years old, appear barefoot in this TV-movie
in a scene where they are lying on sun beds at night, their soles
clearly visible in medium close-up.
* "The Flintstones" 1994. Elaine and Melanie Silver, about 4 years
old, who as twins alternate in the role of Pebbles, are barefoot
throughout the film and show their feet in a variety of scenes and
angles in medium to medium close-up views.
* "Monkey Trouble" 1994. Thora Birch, 11 years old, is barefoot
while looking for her clothes early in the morning. The scene shows
her feet in medium close-up.
* "It Takes Two" 1995. Mary-Kate Olsen, 9 years old, slips off the
shoe and sock of her left foot and shows her butler the bottom of it
in extreme close-up to display a pinpoint scar on her heel.
* "Angela" 1995. Miranda Stuart Rhyne, about 10 years old, and
Charlotte Eve Blythe, about 6 years old, star in this film about the
world of childhood and have numerous scenes which display their feet
from close-up to medium views. Occasionally the girls show their
soles, as in one scene in which Charlotte sits on the edge of a bed,
kicks off her shoes, then turns to climb farther upon the bed and
reveals the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up. Miranda displays
her soles at an angle in medium close-up when she lies down near the
river's edge as she talks with a boy.
* "Freaky Friday" 1995. Gaby Hoffman, 13 years old, shows the soles
of her feet in medium close-up several times when she ascends the
ladder of a diving board in her swimsuit and in medium distance shots
when she walks about the swimming pool area.
* "The Secret of Roan Inish" 1995. Jeni Courtney, about 10 years
old, goes barefoot a number of times for the first hour of the film,
which takes place near the Irish seashore. Her feet appear in medium
to medium close-up distances.
* "Magic In The Water" 1995. Sarah Wayne, about 10 years old,
displays her sandy bare feet in close-up while she is standing on the
beach, the camera pointing downward. She also appears in open sandals
while sitting cross-legged on a pier, and later is shown barefoot on
the same pier with a medium distance shot of the tops and sides of her
feet (but which appears as medium close-up when the "zoom" function is
used). The only scenes in which her soles appear are when she walks
in a nighttime shot to the end of the pier, then turns and runs back
to her house. The view of her soles, however, are distant and dark,
and even freeze-frame and "zoom" are inadequate for a clearer picture.
* "City of Lost Children" 1995. Judith Vittet, 9 years old, receives
a foot massage from a man accompanying her as they pause to rest on a
city street. The bottom of her foot is shown medium close-up in this
French-language film.
* "The Little Princess" 1995. Liesel Matthews, 10 years old, is seen
barefoot in medium close-up as she sits atop a rock at the beginning
of the movie.
* "Waterworld" 1995. Tina Majorino, 10 years old, appears barefoot
in medium close-up in many scenes, but the moments when she can be
seen with bare feet are quick and require freeze-frame to be observed
effectively.
* "Race Against Time: The Search for Sarah" 1996. Caitlin Wachs, 6
years old, lies on her bed in this TV-movie while reading a book with
her aunt. Caitlin then pushes her socks off using her feet and
eventually puts her soles in full view of the camera in medium close-
up.
* "Pinocchio's Revenge" 1996. Brittany Alyse Smith, about 10 years
old, has a scene in which we see a three-second look at her right foot
in medium close-up.
* "Manny and Lo" 1996. Scarlett Johansson, 11 years old, lies on the
couch with her older sister and shows her soles in medium close-up.
In another part of the movie, she walks around barefoot in medium
distance right after taking a shower.
* "Fly Away Home" 1996. Anna Paquin, 13 years old, briefly shows her
feet in close-up when she shares a shower with some feathered friends.
* "One Fine Day" 1996. Mae Whitman, 7 years old, is shown barefoot
in medium close-up as she is carried about by her father while she is
in her pajamas.
* "Striptease" 1996. Rumer Willis, 7 years old, is seen barefoot on
more than one occasion. In one scene the soles of her feet are shown
in medium close-up as she sits down to watch television, her legs out
in front of her.
* "Ghosts of Mississippi" 1996. Alexa Vega, 7 years old, has
numerous barefoot scenes while wearing her nightgown both inside and
outside the house. Views of her soles can be seen in medium close-up
as she is carried around the house in the arms of her father.
* "Mary Reilly" 1996. Sasha Hanau, about 8 years old, is barefoot
when she is rescued from a locked closet and picked up by her mother.
Sasha's feet are shown in medium close-up from a side view.
* "Matilda" 1996. Mara Wilson, 8 years old, dances barefoot with her
teacher, Miss Honey, near the end of the film, then sits cross-legged
on a chair to reveal the bottom of her right foot in close-up.
* "Ponette" 1996. Victoire Thivisol, 4 years old, walks around
barefoot in her pajamas in this French film about a motherless little
girl at a boarding school. In one scene she lifts her legs out of bed
and shows the bottom of her foot in medium close-up, but it is a brief
shot requiring freeze-frame.
* "La Monos" 1997. Claudia Molina, about 10 years old, dances a
flamenco barefoot atop a barrel to entertain the men of the village in
this Spanish-language film. Her feet are shown close-up as she
dances. Afterward her father places her shoes back on and handles her
feet in medium close-up. (Note: a tilde appears over the "n" in the
film's title, but current software for this list prevents its
inclusion.)
* "A Simple Wish" 1997. Mara Wilson, 9 years old, displays her feet
in medium close-up in an early scene where she sits on her father's
lap and is lifted up to be taken to bed.
* "Jurassic Park 2 - The Lost World" 1997. Camilla Belle, 10 years
old, explores an island beach while barefoot. When she comes upon a
tiny dinosaur near the edge of the jungle, she kneels to examine the
creature and shows the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up. (Note:
Camilla may have been 9 years old in this scene; shooting started a
month before she turned 10.)
* "FairyTale: A True Story" 1997. Florence Hoath, 12 years old, and
Elizabeth Earl, 9 years old, are barefoot while playing in a river,
and show their feet numerous times while walking about indoors,
climbing stairs and getting in and out of each other's beds as well as
their own. Most of the views are in medium close-up, with at least
one sole view in a fleeting moment as Florence brings her feet out
from under the covers to get out of bed. (Note: It is possible that
Florence may have been 11 years old when her barefoot scenes were
made; her 12th birthday was in July 1996 and the film was shot from
May to August 1996.)
* "Little Girls in Pretty Boxes" 1997. Courtney Pelden, 15 years
old, and all of her friends show their feet throughout the entire
movie. In one scene Courtney arrives home from gymnastics school and
rips her shoes and socks off. She then uses her bare feet to
antagonize her mother who is on the telephone. (This film is listed
here for those who may regard a 15-year-old as a child, especially
since Courtney appears younger than 15 in this film, although many do
not consider someone of her age to be a child.)
* "Deep Impact" 1998. Katie Hagan, 8 years old, shows her feet but
not her soles in medium distance as she sits on the lap of one of her
parents while the family watches a TV news story about an approaching
asteroid. (Note: Katie turned 8 when the film was made, but she may
have been 7 when her barefoot scene was shot. She was born in August
1989, and the production schedule ran from June to October 1997.)
* "Madeline" 1998. Hatty Jones, 9 years old, in the title role, and
her various schoolmates appear barefoot several times in the movie as
they walk and run about in their nightgowns. In a couple of instances
Hatty shows the soles of her feet in medium close-up as she lies on
her stomach and reaches over the edge of a bed, and in a later scene
when she stoops to pet her dog.
* "Hope Floats" 1998. Mae Whitman, 8 years old, shows the tops of
her feet briefly in medium distance when coming into her grandma's
bedroom. (Note: Mae may have been 9 in the scene. She turned 9 in
June 1997 during a May-to-July 1997 filming schedule.)
* "Billboard Dad" 1998. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, 12 years old,
are members of a swim team who display their bare feet numerous times
in this straight-to-video film. The twins walk about barefoot at
poolside, and at one point on a lounge chair Mary-Kate lifts both feet
up and clearly displays her soles directly to the camera in medium
close-up. Ashley also shows the bottoms of her feet in medium to
medium close-up when she walks to the diving platform. Later both
girls display their feet in medium close-up, and Mary-Kate her right
sole, when they visit a pedicure salon.
* "Paulie" 1998. Hallie Kate Eisenberg, 5 years old, exhibits her
toes in extreme close-up several times while wearing sandals early in
the film. Minutes later, in a bedroom scene, she gives a brief
glimpse of her bare feet in medium close-up when she throws the covers
back from the bed and swings her legs to the floor.
* "The Parent Trap" 1998. Lindsay Lohan, 11 years old, has several
close-up barefoot scenes as she jumps out of her summer camp bed and
as she walks on a pier to dive into a lake. Later, in a scene at the
California home, her left sole is briefly seen in medium close-up when
she tucks her legs underneath herself.
* "A Map of the World" 1999. Kayla Perlmutter, about 5 years old,
cavorts barefoot upside-down in the lap of her mother, finally leaning
backward toward the camera to show her soles in medium close-up. She
also lies in a tangle in bed asleep with her sister, played by real-
life sister Dara Perlmutter, about 8 years old, and a neighbor girl,
Hayley Lochner, 8 years old, their bare feet shown in medium close-up
in dim light but somewhat obscured from view because of their
overlapping positions. In another bedroom scene, Kayla sleeps on her
parents' bed with her soles toward the lens in medium close-up, again
in dim light, as the camera slowly dollies to her. Dara also appears
barefoot in a medium distance shot while she stands on a kitchen
chair.
* "Run the Wild Fields" 2000. Alexa Vega, 10 years old, shows her
bare feet, including a close-up of her toes, while she is getting
sized for a new dress by her mother. She also shows her feet in
medium close-up when an adult house guest picks her up and swings her
around prior to a dance lesson, and she shows her feet in medium
distance as she plants seeds in the family's farm fields.
* "The Miracle Worker" 2000. Hallie Kate Eisenberg, 7 years old, is
barefoot in a single scene in this TV-movie as she dangles her legs
from the edge of a pond. Best viewed by freeze-frame, Hallie shows
the bottoms of each of her feet singularly, then both at once, as she
splashes in the water in a medium distance shot.
* "Where the Heart is" 2000. Mackenzie Fitzgerald, 4 years old, can
be seen barefoot in this movie when she is sleeping with her friends,
who are also barefoot, on the couch downstairs. Their feet are seen
in medium close-up.
* "Snow Day" 2000. Zena Grey, 10 years old, climbs out of bed after
she awakes to find that it is snowing that morning. When she lifts
her legs from under the covers there is a brief but blurry view of her
feet in medium close-up, but then she climbs on a shelf in front of
her window and kneels to look out at the falling snow. With the
camera behind her, she shows the bottoms of both feet for several
seconds in medium close-up and holds them steady so that freeze-frame
is not required.
* "The Others" 2001. Alakina Mann, 11 years old, is briefly shown
dancing barefoot in medium distance in a sunlit room towards the end
of the movie, with various angles of her feet but not her soles.
* "Mockingbird Don't Sing" 2001. Tarra Steele, 10 years old, is kept
prisoner by her father and strapped to a chair while she is barefoot.
Early in the film there are many medium to close-up shots of her feet
as she sits in the chair.
* "Don't Say a Word" 2001. Skye McCole Bartusiak, 8 years old, after
being kidnapped and losing her socks in the struggle, is barefoot
throughout the rest of the movie. In one scene she is sitting on a
bed and her foot is dangling from the edge, and the camera slowly pans
from the bottom of the bed to the top, showing her toes in medium
close-up. Her soles can also be seen in medium close-up as she gets
up and tries to communicate with her mother.
* "Osmosis Jones" 2001. Elena Franklin, 12 years old, sits barefoot
on a couch near her father as he recovers from a stomach upset.
Elena's feet are shown briefly in medium distance as she sits and then
stands before walking to her dad. Her soles do not appear in the
scene.
* "In America" 2002. Sarah Bolger, 11 years old, shows the sides and
tops of her feet in close-up as she slowly descends the ladder of her
bunk bed in her pajamas. (It is possible she may have been 10 years
old when the scene was shot, but a production schedule to match
against the film's release date has not yet been found.)
* "The Ring" 2002. Daveigh Chase, 11 years old, climbs barefoot out
of a well and walks into a house to terrorize its inhabitants in this
horror film. During a part of this scene the camera shows her feet in
close-up as she walks, soiled and bruised and made up to appear as if
she is a member of the "undead."
* "Stranded" 2002. Bonnie Wright, 10 years old, is shipwrecked on an
island with her family in this TV-movie. She is barefoot throughout
the remainder of the film, although her feet do not appear in every
shot. In most scenes where her feet appear, the camera distance is
medium. However, in one scene in which she is swimming in a lagoon
with her family, her foot comes out of the water in medium close-up,
although it is a slightly blurry and quick view which requires freeze-
frame.
* "Panic Room" 2002. Kristen Stewart, 10 years old, plays Jodie
Foster's diabetic daughter and displays her feet in medium close-up in
many scenes. At one point, when she goes into a coma, her soles are
shown in extreme close-up as she clinches her toes and then relaxes
them. (Kristen's age was originally and erroneously listed as "11
years old" but she was still 10 when shooting started in January 2001;
she turned 11 in April 2001 after shooting had wrapped up.)
* "Whale Rider" 2002. Keisha Castle-Hughes, 11 years old, is
barefoot throughout nearly the entire film. Close-ups of her feet are
seen when she is riding a bicycle and when she climbs onto the back of
a beached whale. The bottoms of her feet clearly show in these latter
scenes. (Although the film was released when she was 12, she was 11
at the time of filming.) This movie ranks near the top of this list
in the large number of foot scenes therein, along with "Peter Pan" and
"Nim's Island."
* "We Were Soldiers" 2002. Sloane Momsen, 4 years old, is in pajamas
and barefoot as she prays with her family at bedside. While she
kneels, the camera lingers on her bare feet in near close-up, where
her soles are in three-quarter angle to the camera.
* "Uptown Girls" 2003. Dakota Fanning, 8 years old, shows the
bottoms of her feet when she is tossed to the floor after dancing with
her nanny, lands on her posterior, and quickly raises a foot as she
recovers, revealing her sole in medium close-up. She also displays
her feet in several other scenes, such as when she is serving pretend
"tea" with Brittany Murphy, with the camera showing Dakota's feet in
medium close-up as she sits at the table. She also is barefoot when
she leaves her room to visit her bedridden father down the hallway,
with views of her soles in medium distance as she walks.
* "Off the Map" 2003. Valentina de Angelis, about 12 years old, lies
on her stomach near a lake as she writes a letter while wearing a
swimsuit. Her bare feet are raised behind her, and the camera shows
her left sole in medium distance as her right foot rests against the
left.
* "The Adventures of Ociee Nash" 2003. Skyler Day, 11 years old, in
the title role of 9-year-old Ociee (pronounced OH-see), shows her feet
on two separate occasions in this film, set in 1898 in the American
South. In one scene when she awakes in the morning, she brings her
feet out from under the covers, but both feet appear quickly and
slightly blurry in medium close-up. In a later scene, she gets into
bed at night and again quickly shows her feet, but freeze-frame and
step-advance reveal several frames in which her left sole is
noticeably sharp and facing to the camera, with her right foot tucked
beneath her left ankle in a medium close-up view. Toward the end of
the film, Jasmine Sky, 12 years old, shows the bottom of her right
foot in medium close-up when she leaves her bed during an escape from
her burning house, but her foot is in faint light and details are
difficult to see. When Jasmine descends from a tree as she is
rescued, her feet
appear in medium distance, but again in faint light.
* "Eloise at Christmastime" 2003. Sofia Vassilieva, 10 years old,
has a brief barefoot scene when she kicks the covers from her bed and
reveals her feet, including her soles at about a three-quarter angle
to the camera, positioned directly above the bed in medium distance in
this TV-movie.
* "Osama" 2003. Marina Golbahari, 13 years old, first appears
barefoot when she awakens while sleeping sitting up in a chair and
under a blanket. The camera focuses on her right foot in medium close-
up, then pans slowly up to her face. Later the camera, in an opposite
move, pans from her face to both her feet in medium close-up while she
jumps rope in a small interior room where she works. Still later she
climbs a tree in a school playground, then shows her feet in close-up
as she climbs upon a boy's shoulders when she descends from the tree.
She shows her soles in medium distance shots when she ascends the
tree, then in long shots when she is running away from the camera.
* "The Goodbye Girl" 2004. Hallie Kate Eisenberg, 11 years old, sits
on a bed and shows her soles at an angle in medium close-up with her
legs curled up at the beginning of this made-for-cable remake. When
she raises her feet to slip them under the covers, her left sole shows
directly to the camera in a instant which must be caught on freeze-
frame. At the end of the film, she again climbs off a bed and
displays her left foot again from the side in medium close-up.
* "Hotel Rwanda" 2004. Several girls about 8 years old to 10 years
old (whose identities could not be determined in the credits) dance an
African folk dance on a stage near the hotel about midway through the
film. All are barefoot, and the camera shows their feet in medium
close-up, particularly those of the lead dancer, about 10 years old,
and she reveals her soles as she moves.
* "Man on Fire" 2004. Dakota Fanning, 9 years old, is coached in
swimming lessons by her bodyguard and shows her bare feet many times
both under the water and topside when she stands and dives from the
edge of the pool during practice sessions and in competition. Most
are medium distance views of her feet from all angles, including her
soles, but one shot shows the top and sides of her feet in close-up
when she readies for a dive. Because of the fast action of the
swimming, freeze-frame is required for best views. In two other
scenes which take place in her bedroom, Dakota shows the bottoms of
her feet when she leaps into bed and slips her feet under the covers.
However, the distance is long and the scenes are dimly lit, making her
bareness of her feet difficult to see, if in fact she is barefoot and
not wearing socks.
* "The Door in the Floor" 2004. Elle Fanning, 6 years old, while
barefoot pulls a chair down a hallway in medium close-up and shows
mostly all of her feet except the soles, which are seen only at a
shallow angle. (Freeze-frame and zoom are required for best
viewing.) She also gets picked up by her father and later her nanny,
and although the tops and sides of her feet in these scenes are shown
in close-up, again the soles are shown only at a shallow angle,
requiring freeze-frame and zoom. (Elle may have been 5 in these
scenes, but it is unlikely, since the production schedule began 10
days before she turned 6.)
* "Chestnut: Hero of Central Park" 2004. Abigail Breslin, 7 years
old, climbs into bed with her on-screen sister, Makenzie Vega, 9 years
old, at the orphanage where they live, and Abigail shows medium close-
up views of her bare feet, including the soles, as she does so. Later
in the film she shows them again as she once again climbs into bed
with Makenzie, again in medium close-up, after they are adopted by a
couple. In one scene Makenzie displays her bare feet, including the
soles, when she accidentally falls into the tub while both girls are
washing their pet dog, the title character of the film. All of the
foot scenes are best viewed in freeze-frame and with the "zoom"
function if available.
* "Hide and Seek" 2005. Dakota Fanning, 10 years old, appears
barefoot in the doorway of the bathroom as her on-screen father
examines some eerie writing on the tile walls. Her feet are shown in
medium close-up as she stands. In other scenes in which she lies in
bed, she brings her feet out from under the covers, but the scenes are
from behind closet mini-shades and the views are obscured.
* "Cave of the Yellow Dog" 2005. Nansal Batchuluun, about 6 years
old, shows the bottoms of her feet as she reclines against a wall
while playing with her pet dog. The scene is inserted beside the
rolling end credits and shows her feet at a medium distance.
* "Because of Winn-Dixie" 2005. AnnaSophia Robb, 9 years old (who
sometimes is credited in her films with the spelling "Annasophia"),
appears barefoot in medium close-up as she washes her dog "Winn-Dixie"
in the front yard. She continues to show her feet in medium close-up
as she sits down minutes later on the front steps of her mobile home,
then in later scenes shows her feet, including her soles at a shallow
angle, as she gets into bed for the night. At two separate times in
the film she is barefoot as she walks about the mobile home in her
nightgown, although the scenes are partly obscured by darkness. In
perhaps the best scene, she sits on the kitchen floor barefoot and is
picked up by her father while she is wearing her nightgown and is
carried to bed, with her feet nearest to the camera in comparison with
other views. Her soles appear at a shallow angle in the kitchen
scene. (Earlier editions listed her age as 10, but she turned 10
eight days before filming wrapped. It is possible, but unlikely,
that she may have been 10 in some of the barefoot scenes.)
* "Nine Lives" 2005. Dakota Fanning, 10 years old, appears in the
final segment of this nine-episode vignette of women's lives, when she
and her mother place a blanket on the ground for a picnic. Dakota
removes her shoes and reveals her feet, including her soles, in medium
close-up. Later she climbs a tree and shows the tops and soles of her
feet in medium close-up again.
* "Dark Water" 2005. Ariel Gade, 7 years old, bounces barefoot on
her bed as the camera views her feet in medium close-up, then she lies
down on the bed with her legs stretched out as the camera views her
from an overhead angle in a medium shot. The scene is brief and only
the tops of her feet, not the soles, are shown.
* "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"
2005. Georgie Henley, 9 years old, slips her bare feet into boots
when she arises from bed early in the film in a medium close-up view.
Later in the movie she jumps out of bed barefoot to follow the lion
Aslan in a medium distance shot. In both scenes the tops and sides of
her feet are shown but not her soles. (Note: Although the film was
released in December 2005 when Georgie was 10, the movie was shot from
June to December 2004, from the time she was not quite 9 years old to
when she was 9 and 1/2 upon the film's completion.)
* "Water" 2005. Sarala Kariyawasam, 8 years old, is barefoot
throughout the entire film. She shows her bare feet in close-up
immediately in the opening scene, then proceeds to display her feet in
nearly every scene that follows. In this story about the treatment of
widowed women in 1938 India, Sarala's feet are shown from extreme
close-up to long distances throughout the film, with medium close-up
views the most abundant. In one scene her soles appear in medium
close-up as she lies down on a mat while a young adult woman briefly
tickles them, and in other scenes her soles show to the camera
whenever she walks away from it.
* "Little Miss Sunshine" 2006. Abigail Breslin, 9 years old, appears
barefoot during the swimsuit competition of the title pageant in
medium distance views, but the scene is brief. A better view is
earlier in the film when her grandfather puts her to bed and she shows
the bottoms of her feet clearly in medium close-up when she puts them
under the covers. The scene is best viewed in freeze-frame and with
the "zoom" function if available.
* "The Holiday" 2006. Miffy Englefield, 6 years old, lies on her
stomach on her bed while with her sister and dad, her soles to the
camera in medium close-up (but close-up with "zoom"). Emma Pritchard,
about 5 years old, who plays Miffy's little sister, is also barefoot
in the shot, but the views of her feet are obscured by the angle of
her legs and by the bedding. (Note: Miffy was 6 when shooting began
in January 2006 and turned 7 in March before production wrapped in
June. It is possible, therefore, that she may have been 7 when the
barefoot scene was made.)
* "Bridge to Terabithia" 2007. Bailee Madison, 6 years old, briefly
shows her bare feet in medium distance when she runs to be picked up
by her father in her bedroom.
* "Enchanted" 2007. Rachel Covey, 7 years old, appears barefoot in a
few scenes in medium distance as she walks about the house and while
she is riding on her father's back with her feet in front of him. In
one scene her soles appear in medium distance as she runs to answer
the door. (Rachel may have been 8 in some or all of the scenes,
because she turned 8 in June 2006 during a film schedule that ran from
April to August of that year.)
* "The Nines" 2007. Elle Fanning, 8 years old, walks barefoot
briefly around the kitchen in her home and show the tops and sides of
her feet in medium close-up, but no soles.
* "Hounddog" 2007. Dakota Fanning, 12 years old, displays her bare
feet throughout this film in nearly every scene she is in, from close-
ups, such as in the opening scene, to medium close-up and medium
distances. Most of the scenes show the tops of her feet, but
occasionally she also shows her soles. In one scene, when she lies on
her stomach on top of her bed with the camera behind her, her soles
appear in close-up. (Note: the film was shot when she was 12; Dakota
was 14 upon its release.)
* "Reservation Road" 2007. Elle Fanning, 8 years old, jumps barefoot
on the bed her mom in lying in and shows her soles in medium close-up
as she stretches forward on the covers.
* "Definitely, Maybe" 2008. Abigail Breslin, 11 years old, appears
mainly barefoot in this film as she listens to a story from her father
in her bedroom about how her parents first met. In one scene she lies
on her bed while talking with her dad and lifts her legs behind her to
reveal the soles of both feet in medium close-up as she swings them
back and forth. When the camera dollies in toward the end of the
scene to concentrate on her father, Abigail's swinging left sole
appears as nearly a close-up off to the side of the screen. She also
shows her soles in a later scene when she pushes herself out of bed,
and in still another scene the tops of her feet are displayed when she
places them atop a low chest of drawers.
* "Nim's Island" 2008. Abigail Breslin, 11 years old, is barefoot
throughout most of the film in this story of a child who lives on a
remote island in the South Pacific with her father. The dozens of
foot scenes range from long distance to close-up, with most in medium
close-up. For example, her bare feet slosh through surf and run the
dense green growth in close-up, and wrap themselves around a sliding
rope ride in medium close-up. In a scene which shows her soles in
another medium close-up, she props both feet on a table as she talks
on the phone, and in a separate phone scene has the long curly phone
line placed between her toes. The phone scenes give a longer view of
her feet in a single take than any other shot, and give by far the
most extended views of the bottoms of her feet. Her soles appear in
many other shots, but only briefly, as when for example she is walking
along the beach. Along with "Peter Pan" and "Whale Rider", this
film ranks near the top of this list in total foot scenes.
* "Bedtime Stories" 2008. Laura Ann Kesling, 8 years old, lies on
top of her bed with her feet up behind her in the mid-part of the
film, revealing her soles in medium close-up, as she listens to her
uncle tell her bedtime stories. In the same scene the tops and sides
of her feet appear in medium distance but in slightly out-of-focus
views in the background. Early in the film she climbs into bed
barefoot but in medium-long distance, and her feet appear so quickly
it is difficult to see them.
* "The Secret Life of Bees" 2008. Dakota Fanning, 14 years old,
walks barefoot in a swamp and shows her feet from medium close-up to
close-up, later removing her shoes to again walk barefoot in the water
with close-up views, then still later displays the bottoms of her feet
in medium close-up as she lies across her bed.
* "My Sister's Keeper" 2009. Olivia Jade Fine, about 6 years old, is
shown barefoot in medium distance as she kicks and screams while being
carried against her character's will into an operating room for a
procedure. The sides and tops of her feet are visible but not her
soles.
* "Ramona and Beezus" 2010. Joey King, 9 years old, shows the top
half of her soles in extreme close-up after she has drawn smiley faces
on the bottoms of her big toes. In other scenes, she displays her
soles in both close-up and medium close-up as she twirls about in a
tutu, then falls back into a stage prop bed shaped like a slice of
bread; the tops of her feet are also seen in medium close-up as Joey
sits on her heels as a roll of wallpaper uncurls toward her; and the
bottoms of her feet show in medium close-up as she accidentally falls
through a ceiling and dangles her feet below her as she holds on to
the attic floor. She also shows her feet in medium close-up as she
walks about outside the house in an angry fit, plus shows her feet in
medium close-up when her father picks her up during the wedding
dance. Later, at the closing credits, Joey displays her soles when
she dances, raising her feet on her toes with her back to the camera.
(Special note: Although this film was released exactly one week
before Joey turned 11 in July 2010, she was only 9 when production ran
from April to June 2009.)
* "The Spy Next Door" 2010. Alina Foley, 5 years old, is barefoot in
her pajamas and shows her feet in medium close-up as she tumbles about
with her babysitter. (Note: Although the film was released in 2010,
shooting began in October 2008 when Alina was 5 and concluded well
before she turned 6.)
