1. REVISIONS

This edition replaces the list of December 10, 2007.

New Additions: "The Andy Griffith Show" (1964; TV series); "Chitty

2. POLICY FOR INCLUSION

This list notes film and television appearances of children of ages 4
to 14 years. Should there be a deviation from this policy, which
occurs infrequently, the inclusion is explained for those readers who
would prefer these particular young people not be included.

3. HISTORY OF THE LIST

Barefoot children appear in many films, and some of the movies include
the bottoms of boys' or girls' feet in close-ups for long, lingering
times. Here are some films with scenes where girls or boys appear
barefoot and usually show the bottoms of their feet. They are listed
from the earliest movies to movies of today. The age of the child
noted for each film is the actual age they were when the movie was
shot, not when it was finally released to theaters. (For example,
"Misunderstood" was filmed in 1982, when Henry Thomas was 10 years old
and Huckleberry Fox was 7 years old, but it was not released until
1984 when they were 12 and 9, respectively.) In some cases, the age
of the child is estimated if research fails to find a verifiable
biography but if other material, such as interviews, helps to
establish the age as closely as possible.

"Children's Feet in Cinema" was first published in 1996 on several
newsgroups and listed boyfeet and girlfeet together in a mixed, single
column. It was later adapted for use by The Young Foot Lovers
Adoration Society (TYFLAS), a now-defunct website which edited the
list to show only girlfeet. This new list is presented here in a
revised format of its original, in which boyfeet are once again listed
with girlfeet. Unlike the original posting, however, the list has
been separated for convenience into a boyfeet grouping and a girlfeet
grouping. Films where both boys and girls appear barefoot in the same
film are listed under "Girlfeet/Boyfeet." Since this list began
publishing again in late 2003, two new additions have been added:
"Cartoon Girlfeet and Boyfeet," in which feature-length cartoons show
well-drawn little girls' and boys' feet, and "Television Girlfeet and
Boyfeet," which lists certain episodes from past and current series
which feature boy and girl cast members in bare feet. Where a cartoon
has appeared on television as a series, it is listed under "Cartoon
Girlfeet and Boyfeet," which normally lists feature-length films,
rather than "Television Girlfeet and Boyfeet," to avoid confusion.

The list is revised and re-posted on newsgroups on an unscheduled
basis.

4. GIRLFEET

* "Little Miss Marker" 1934. Shirley Temple, 5 years old, puts on
her pajamas and jumps into Adolphe Menjou's bed, "commandeering" it
from him and forcing him to sleep in a chair. She shows her feet as
she does so, and reveals the bottoms of her feet quickly from a medium
distance.

* "Curly Top" 1935. Shirley Temple, 7 years old, lies on her stomach
on the beach with her feet in the air. She first shows the bottoms of
her feet in medium close-up with the camera in front of her, then in
close-up when she lowers her legs to show her soles to the camera
behind her. Earlier she also appears barefoot in medium close-up
while dancing as a hula girl in lei and grass skirt.

* "Child Bride" 1938. Shirley Mills, 12 years old, is barefoot
throughout this film set in the rural American backwoods of the
1930s. Her feet are seen in various distances from long shots to
close-up, although most are medium to medium close-up. Her soles
appear in several scenes.

* "Kathleen" 1941. Shirley Temple, 13 years old, hurts her big toe
and her maid puts a bandage on it. The film also features a close-up
of the sole of her foot.

* "Meet Me in St. Louis" 1944. Margaret O'Brien, 7 years old, lies
on her stomach on a bed with her feet in the air as she talks with her
older sisters. Her soles show directly to the camera in medium close-
up.

* "National Velvet" 1944. Elizabeth Taylor, 12 years old, lies on
her back with her feet out in front of her on her bed, and then lies
on her stomach on her mother's bed with her feet in the air and shows
the bottoms of her feet to the camera. Both scenes are in medium
close-up.

* "Sister Kenny" 1946. Doreen McCann, about 6 years old, lies on a
gurney barefoot as she is given a medical exam for polio. The scene
is in medium close-up.

* "Don't Bother to Knock" 1952. Donna Corcoran, 9 years old, lies
barefoot and bound hands and feet in her pajamas on a bed after a
psychotic babysitter has tied her up. The camera slowly pans in close-
up from her feet, soles upward, along her body to her head.

* "Pollyanna" 1960. Hayley Mills, 13 years old, is lifted out of bed
in her nightgown and carried to the upper staircase, where she sees a
crowd gathered below in her honor. The camera provides a medium shot
of her bare feet as she is picked up and then carried across the
balcony.

* "The Parent Trap" 1961. Susan Henning, about 13 years old, is the
camera photo double of Hayley Mills in this tale of separated twins
who meet at camp, and Susan's face never prominently appears to the
camera. However, in the underwater scene where Hayley is balancing
her twin above her, the bare feet resting on Hayley's shoulders in
medium close-up are those of Susan, later a successful child model and
Miss Teen USA. Susan's feet are obscured somewhat by Hayley's hands
as she holds Susan's ankles.

* "Cape Fear" 1962. Lori Martin, 14 years old, shows the bottoms of
her feet in medium close-up as she scrubs the upper deck of a boat in
a marina. She continues to show her feet as she stands and greets
friends passing by in another boat.

* "To Kill a Mockingbird" 1962. Mary Badham, 9 years old, walks home
barefoot from school while wearing a costume and showing the bottoms
of her feet as she walks.

* "Papa's Delicate Condition" 1963. Linda Bruhl, 7 years old, wears
pajamas while being carried barefoot up the stairs by her on-screen
father, who pauses at the top of the stairs to talk with the mother.
While the parents talk, Linda's soles show directly to the camera in
medium close-up. Her father then carries Linda into her bedroom where
her feet continue to be visible in medium distance throughout the
scene.

* "The Sound of Music" 1965. Angela Cartwright, 12 years old, Debbie
Turner, 8 years old, and Kym Karath, 6 years old, appear barefoot with
two on-screen older sisters, also barefoot, during the famous "My
Favorite Things" song montage. For the purposes of this list, one
older sister played by Charmian Carr, 22 years old, cannot be
considered a child, and the other older sister Heather Menzies, 15
years old, may be considered a child only by some moviegoers.

* "This Property is Condemned" 1966. Mary Badham, 13 years old,
walks about barefoot in this tale of rural poverty, where her feet are
seen in medium to medium close-up distances.

* "Pippi Longstocking" 1969. Inger Nilsson, 10 years old, appears
barefoot in one scene when she soaks her feet in a large bucket of
water, pours the rest on the floor, puts on foot scrubbers and
proceeds to skate around the house cleaning the floor.

* "Alice in the Cities" 1970. Yella Rottlander, about 9 years old,
wears a swimsuit and lounges on a blanket on her stomach with her bare
soles in the air and moves them back and forth.

* "The Beguiled" 1971. Pamelyn Ferdin, 12 years old, displays her
bare feet from beginning to end, finally showing the bottom of one of
her feet as she kneels to grieve over a slain pet. Her entire sole is
viewable in letterbox format, but only partially otherwise.

* "Napoleon and Samantha" 1972. Jodie Foster, 9 years old, is shown
at a distance barefoot as she dangles her feet from a pier into the
water.

* "The Exorcist" 1973. Linda Blair, 13 years old, comes downstairs
in her nightgown and wets the carpet in her "possessed" state, and a
brief shot of her bare feet in medium close-up is shown. Later her
feet are visible in various bedroom scenes, particularly as her body
is levitating during the exorcism.

* "Malachi's Cove" 1973. Veronica Quilligan, about 12 years old,
lives with her grandfather by the sea and earns her living by
collecting seaweed, and she runs about barefoot during the whole
movie.

* "Here Comes Pippi Longstocking" 1973. Inger Nilsson, 13 years old,
appears barefoot in a foot and feather scene in a film also known as
"Pippi Goes on Board."

* "The Car" 1977. Kim Richards, 12 years old, and her real-life
sister Kyle Richards, about 9 years old, lie on their backs on top of
the covers in their bedroom as their on-screen father comes to check
on them, and both girls show their soles of their feet toward the
camera in medium close-up.

* "Candleshoe" 1977. Jodie Foster, 14 years old, lies barefoot on a
bed showing her soles, then sits cross-legged, showing her toes. The
scene is in medium close-up to close-up.

* "The Goodbye Girl" 1977. Quinn Cummings, 9 years old, first shows
her feet in medium distance early in the film when she pulls her legs
out from under the covers of the bed she shares with her mother.
Quinn again shows her feet when coming out the bedroom door after her
mother tells the new tenant to go away. When Quinn goes back to bed,
she walks away from the camera and jumps up on the bed to get back
under the covers, and she shows the bottoms of her feet as she does so
in medium distance. In a later scene, after her mother confronts the
new tenant over a young woman he has in his room, Quinn pulls off her
shoes and socks as she sits on the edge of the bed and reveals her
right sole to the camera in medium close-up as well as side angles of
her feet. As the scene continues, she climbs off the bed to put her
socks in the hamper and gives additional views of her feet. In a
scene nearer the end of the film, when the tenant comes home drunk,
Quinn is standing barefoot in the doorway of the bedroom as her mother
puts him to bed. In a still later scene, Quinn is playing dress-up as
she talks to her mother and walks away from the camera to reveal her
bare soles, then Quinn sits in a chair and pulls on oversize high-heel
shoes, showing in medium distance her left sole as she does.

* "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" 1977. Adrienne Campbell, 6
years old, and her brothers are awakened by their father, and she is
barefoot and dangles her foot clearly over the side of the bed.

* "Pretty Baby" 1978. Brooke Shields, 12 years old, shows the
bottoms of her feet when she slides down a banister, gets her legs
painted, and gets picked up for a spanking. The views range from
medium to medium close-up.

* "Piranha" 1978. Numerous children (identities and ages not
available here) splash about in a lagoon and show their feet.

* "Body Heat" 1981. Carola McGuinness, about 10 years old, appears
in medium distance in a brief scene in which she is barefoot in her
nightgown. She observes an adult couple engaging in something which
children should not see and, shocked, she turns to run away, revealing
her soles as she does so. Freeze-frame is required to see her feet
well.

* "Poltergeist" 1982. Heather O'Rourke, 6 years old, has a number of
barefoot scenes as she walks about in her pajamas in her bedroom and
in front of the television, often showing her soles behind her as she
sits on her folded legs.

* "Annie" 1982. Aileen Quinn, 10 years old, stars in this famous
story of little girl orphans in New York City. She and her numerous
"sister" orphans, including Toni Ann Gisondi, 6 years old, who plays
the youngest orphan Molly, display their feet many times during the
opening bedroom scene as they sing the first number.

* "Anna to the Infinite Power" 1983. Martha Byrne, 12 years old,
shows the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she climbs into
small hiding places to escape from her captors. In another scene she
appears barefoot in medium close-up while lying on her bed in her
cell, but her feet can only be seen in letterbox format; they are
truncated in full-screen format.

* "Supergirl - DVD Director's Cut" 1984. In the original release
this scene was removed (and so names and ages are not available here),
but in the DVD edition it is restored and features numerous little
girls ranging from 5 to 10 years old who appear barefoot throughout
the scene. It takes place just after the opening credits when
Supergirl is walking through the city in which you see the barefoot
extras.

* "Cat's Eye" 1985. Drew Barrymore, 10 years old, lies in bed asleep
with her foot out from under the covers as a tiny gremlin crawls up
the side of her bed. The camera shows an extreme close-up of the
bottom of her foot.

* "Surviving: A Family in Crisis" 1985. Heather O'Rourke, 8 years
old, appears in this TV-movie while lying on her bed talking to her
brother and dangling her feet behind her in medium close-up. A few
minutes later she is sitting up, legs crossed, and playing with her
toes.

* "The Coca-Cola Kid" 1985. Rebecca Smart, 8 years old, shows her
feet in close-up as she washes them while taking a shower. She also
appears barefoot in other scenes throughout the movie.

* "My Life as a Dog" 1985. Johanna Udehn, about 10 years old,
extends her bare feet to the outside grass as she lies inside a large
section of water pipeline while talking with her young boyfriend. Her
feet clearly show while the rest of her is hidden from view inside the
pipeline as the young boy reads from a newspaper on the grass. This
is a Swedish-language film available with subtitles.

* "Parent Trap II" 1986. Carrie Kei Heim, 12 years old, lies on her
stomach on her bed with her feet in the air keeping time to music from
the radio. The opening shot is a tight close-up of her feet as they
rhythmically move, then the camera dollies back to reveal Carrie's
entire self on her bed.

* "'Round Midnight" 1986. Gabrielle Haker, 11 years old, dances on
the beach and shows the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she
twirls.

* "Clan of the Cave Bear" 1986. Emma Floria, about 10 years old,
appears barefoot in all her scenes as a young cave girl in prehistoric
times. In one brief scene as she's ascending a slope of rock inside a
cave, her feet are shown from the side in medium close-up.

* "Poltergeist II: The Other Side" 1986. Heather O'Rourke, 10 years
old, offers a very brief glimpse of her feet in this sequel. It
occurs when she stands up and walks towards the toy telephone near the
beginning of the film.

* "The Fig Tree" 1987. Karron Graves, about 10 years old, shows the
bottoms of her feet in medium close-up in this TV-movie when she lies
down on her side on her bed and pulls her legs up to her.

* "Le Grand Chemin" 1987. Vanessa Guedj, 10 years old, walks about
and climbs a tree barefoot in this story of a Parisian boy sent to
relatives one summer in rural France. Vanessa plays the girl next
door who befriends the boy and shows all angles of her feet during her
extensive screen time, including her soles. This French-language
film, whose title translates to "The Grand Highway," is available in
subtitles.

* "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" 1988. Sarah Polley, 9 years
old, plunges into the ocean while wearing a nightgown and is barefoot
when she emerges from the water on the beach. Her feet are seen in
medium distance. She later runs after the baron and a quick glimpse
is seen of her soles in medium distance shots as she runs.

* "Beaches" 1988. Grace Johnston, about 8 years old, and Marcie
Leeds, about 11 years old, appear barefoot at various points in this
film, although Marcie appears in only one brief scene in which her
feet appear, near the beginning of the film when she is lying on a
couch and writing a letter. Most of the barefoot scenes show Grace in
numerous appearances on the beach in medium distance, revealing
various angles of her feet. Near the end of the film, Bette Midler
removes Grace's socks as the child lies on her stomach on her bed with
her head nearest the camera and her legs in the background, and
Grace's soles are shown in medium close-up, although they are slightly
out of focus.

* "The Shiralee" 1988. Rebecca Smart, 11 years old, stars in this
nostalgic Australian film as the newly discovered daughter of a
wandering swagman and appears barefoot through most of the film.
Although this film was originally a mini-series, it is sometimes
broadcast as a single feature.

* "Critters 2" 1988. Lindsay Parker, 7 years old, is shown sleeping
on top of her bed as the camera slowly pans over her bare soles up to
her face. In another scene, there is also an extreme close-up of her
sole as it dangles off the bed.

* "The Good Mother" 1988. Asia Vieira, 6 years old, displays a few
brief glimpses of her feet as she plays about the residence she shares
with her single mother.

* "Zelly and Me" 1988. Alexandra Johnes, about 10 years old, has a
lingering close-up shot of her bare foot as she dangles it while
sitting on the edge of her bed.

* "Three Fugitives" 1989. Sarah Rowland Doroff, 7 years old, shows
the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she is being carried up
the stairs to the bedroom and later when being lifted from a tub after
her bath.

* "Troop Beverly Hills" 1989. Jenny Lewis, 11 years old, Kellie
Martin, 13 years old, Ami Foster, 13 years old, and many other pre-
teen and barely-teen actresses are seen barefoot as they sit around in
their pajamas telling ghost stories in a hotel. Later, some members
of the troop show their soles during a pedicure at a salon when they
have cotton between their toes.

* "Field of Dreams" 1989. Gaby Hoffman, 6 years old, is shown
barefoot in medium close-up when she is carried to bed in her pajamas
as she sleeps in the arms of her father.

* "Uncle Buck" 1989. Gaby Hoffmann, 7 years old, appears barefoot in
this movie several times, but especially clearly when she refuses to
sleep in her own bed and ends up sleeping with her Uncle Buck on top
of the covers. Her feet appear in medium close-up.

* "The Challengers" 1989. Gema Zamprogna, 12 years old, displays her
bare feet while lying down upon and then sitting up on a couch in this
made-for-cable Canadian production. The view of Gema's feet is medium
close-up.

* "Arachnophobia" 1990. Marlene Katz, 10 years old, sits on her
knees in her pajamas with the camera behind her as a small spider
approaches her bare feet, shown bottoms-up in a close-up shot as she
is sitting.

* "Three Men and a Little Lady" 1990. Robin Weisman, about 7 years
old, shows her feet in medium close-up while being tickled by her on-
screen adopted dad.

* "Mermaids" 1990. Christina Ricci, 10 years old, tries out in
competition for a swimming match and shows the bottoms of her feet in
medium close-up as they break from the water's surface while she kicks
her legs.

* "Regarding Henry" 1991. Mikki Allen, 13 years old, is barefoot as
she is carried on her father's back into the kitchen, but her feet in
medium distance are best seen in letterbox format, since in full frame
the view is slightly obscured. In another scene, she pulls her sock
down to the halfway point of her foot to reveal a scar on her ankle in
close-up. The heel is clearly shown but not the sole. (Note:
Although she is apparently older than her 11-year-old character's age,
she looks the part; it is possible she may have been 12 when the film
was shot, or even 11, but no production schedule has been found to
verify this.)

* "My Girl" 1991. Anna Chlumsky, 10 years old, gets into bed and
shows the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she pulls the
covers over her after getting her hair brushed by Jamie Lee Curtis.

* "Return to the Blue Lagoon" 1991. Courtney Phillips, about 10
years old, who most often is listed in film credits as Courtney
Barilla, appears barefoot in medium close-up during a very brief
appearance.

* "Switched at Birth" 1991. Ariana Richards, 11 years old, shows her
feet in this TV-movie of a child who discovers she belongs
biologically to another family. In one scene, she is wearing slippers
while lying on her stomach on her bed with her legs in the air, and
her father comes in and removes the slippers to reveal her bare soles
to the camera.

* "Curly Sue" 1991. Alisan Porter, 9 years old, is sitting in a
rubber ring in the bathtub when she lifts her legs out of the water
and shows her bare feet in medium close-up.

* "The Prince of Tides" 1991. Brandlyn Whitaker, about 5 years old,
lives by the ocean with her family and frequently displays her bare
feet while in her swimsuit or nightgown. At one point she crawls onto
her father's lap and shows the bottoms of her feet to the camera in
medium close-up. Her two sisters are played by Lindsay Wray, 14 years
old, and Maggie Collier, about 12 years old, who are also barefoot in
some scenes, but Brandlyn's feet provide the best views.

* "Honey, I Blew up the Kid" 1992. Various little girls (names and
ages not available here) show their feet in medium close-up while
watching a magic show.

* "Betrayal of the Dove" 1992. Heather Lind, about 7 years old,
appears barefoot in a couple of scenes.

* "Heidi" 1993. Noley Thornton, 9 years old, is lying in bed with
her friend Klara and has her bare feet against the end rail of the bed
in this TV mini-series (also available as a single feature). In this
scene, Noley shows the top half of her soles to the camera in medium
close-up. Admirers of girlfeet may find the incomplete shot of her
soles to be unsatisfying but others may find even a half-view to be
worthwhile.

* "They" 1993. Brandlyn Whitaker, about 7 years old, in this TV-
movie also known as "They Watch," shows her feet side-on in medium
close-up when she sits on her dad's lap. In another scene she falls
asleep on the stairs and displays her soles as her dad takes her to
bed.

* "Miracle on 34th Street" 1994. Mara Wilson, 7 years old, shows the
bottoms of her feet in medium close-up as she gets out of bed, walks
over to a trunk and kneels down, with the camera at an angle behind
her.

* "I'll Do Anything" 1994. Whittni Wright, 6 years old, lifts her
feet as her dad tucks her into a sleeping bag in the bedroom, and her
right sole shows close-up to the lens in a slightly out-of-focus
view. In a separate shot, Whittni's feet show in medium distance as
she sits on her bed.

* "No Dessert Dad, Till You Mow the Lawn" 1994. Allison Mack, 11
years old, is singing in the bathtub with her foot resting against the
tap. The scene includes a close-up of her toes, which are painted
purple.

* "Nell" 1994. Heather and Marianne Bomba, 7-year-old twins, jump
off a bank in the woods with the camera below them and show the
bottoms of their feet in medium close-up as they descend.

* "Deep Red" 1994. Lindsey Haun, 9 years old, holds up her right
foot and shows her sole in close-up while riding in the back seat of a
car as she and some adults are escaping from a mad scientist. Midway
through the film she runs barefoot on the beach away from the camera,
with the bottoms of her feet seen with each step from close-up to
distant, although freeze-frame reveals most views to be slightly
blurry. Later when she is strapped to a gurney in the mad scientist's
laboratory, the camera reveals her bare feet in medium close-up as she
lies perpendicular to the camera, her soles pointed to the lens.

* "Corrina, Corrina" 1994. Tina Majorino, 9 years old, has numerous
barefoot scenes in the film, including those in medium close-up in
which she floats on a rubber raft in a backyard pool and sits on a
step with her grandmother. Perhaps the best scene of all, however, is
when she is jumping on her bed with her legs straight out in front of
her, trampoline-style, her soles toward the camera as she descends in
slow-motion to the bed. Her feet here are nearly close-up, this is,
better than medium close-up but not a tight shot. The slow-motion
action better enables a clearer video capture.

* "Burnt by the Sun" 1994. Nadia Mikhalkov, 6 years old, shows the
bottom of her right foot in close-up as her father lifts her ankle as
they float downstream in a rowboat.

* "Children of the Dark" 1994. Lindsey Haun, 9 years old, and
Annalise Ashdown, about 6 years old, appear barefoot in this TV-movie
in a scene where they are lying on sun beds at night, their soles
clearly visible in medium close-up.

* "The Flintstones" 1994. Elaine and Melanie Silver, about 4 years
old, who as twins alternate in the role of Pebbles, are barefoot
throughout the film and show their feet in a variety of scenes and
angles.

* "Monkey Trouble" 1994. Thora Birch, 11 years old, is barefoot
while looking for her clothes early in the morning.

* "It Takes Two" 1995. Mary-Kate Olsen, 9 years old, slips off the
shoe and sock of her left foot and shows the bottom of it, in extreme
close-up, to her butler to display a pinpoint scar on her heel.

* "Angela" 1995. Miranda Stuart Rhyne, about 10 years old, and
Charlotte Eve Blythe, about 6 years old, star in this film about the
world of childhood and have numerous scenes which display their feet.

* "Freaky Friday" 1995. Gaby Hoffman, 13 years old, shows the soles
of her feet in medium close-up several times when she ascends the
ladder of a diving board in her swimsuit and in medium distance shots
when she walks about the swimming pool area.

* "The Secret of Roan Inish" 1995. Jeni Courtney, about 10 years
old, goes barefoot a number of times for the first hour of the film,
which takes place near the Irish seashore. Her feet appear in medium
to medium close-up distances.

* "Magic In The Water" 1995. Sarah Wayne, about 10 years old,
displays her sandy bare feet in close-up while she is standing up, the
camera pointing downward. She also appears in open sandals while
sitting cross-legged on a pier, and later is shown barefoot on the
same pier with a medium distance shot of her soles.

* "City of Lost Children" 1995. Judith Vittet, 9 years old, receives
a foot massage from Ron Perlman as they pause to rest on a city
street. The bottom of her foot is shown medium close-up in this French-
language film.

* "The Little Princess" 1995. Liesel Matthews, 10 years old, is seen
barefoot in medium close-up as she sits atop a rock at the beginning
of the movie.

* "Waterworld" 1995. Tina Majorino, 10 years old, appears barefoot
in medium close-up in many scenes, but the moments when she can be
seen with bare feet are quick and require freeze-frame to be observed
effectively.

* "Race Against Time: The Search for Sarah" 1996. Caitlin Wachs, 6
years old, lies on her bed in this TV-movie while reading a book with
her aunt. Caitlin then pushes her socks off using her feet and
eventually puts her soles in full view of the camera.

* "Pinocchio's Revenge" 1996. Brittany Alyse Smith, about 10 years
old, has a scene in which we see a three-second look at her right
foot.

* "Manny and Lo" 1996. Scarlett Johansson, 11 years old, lies on the
couch with her older sister and shows her soles in medium close-up.
In another part of the movie, she walks around barefoot right after
taking a shower.

* "Fly Away Home" 1996. Anna Paquin, 13 years old, briefly shows her
feet in close-up when she shares a shower with some feathered friends.

* "One Fine Day" 1996. Mae Whitman, 7 years old, is shown barefoot
in medium close-up as she is carried about by her father while she is
in her pajamas.

* "Striptease" 1996. Rumer Willis, 7 years old, is seen barefoot on
more than one occasion. In one scene the soles of her feet are shown
in medium close-up as she sits down to watch television, her legs out
in front of her.

* "Ghosts of Mississippi" 1996. Alexa Vega, 7 years old, has
numerous barefoot scenes while wearing her nightgown both inside and
outside the house. Views of her soles can be seen in medium close-up
as she is carried around the house in the arms of her father.

* "Mary Reilly" 1996. Sasha Hanau, about 8 years old, is barefoot
when she is rescued from a locked closet and picked up by her mother.
Sasha's feet are shown in medium close-up from a side view.

* "Matilda" 1996. Mara Wilson, 8 years old, dances barefoot with her
teacher, Miss Honey, near the end of the film, then sits cross-legged
on a chair to reveal the bottom of her right foot in close-up.

* "Ponette" 1996. Victoire Thivisol, 4 years old, walks around
barefoot in her pajamas in this French film about a motherless little
girl at a boarding school. In one scene she lifts her legs out of bed
and shows the bottom of her foot in medium close-up, but it is a brief
shot requiring freeze-frame.

* "La Monos" 1997. Claudia Molina, about 10 years old, dances a
flamenco barefoot atop a barrel to entertain the men of the village in
this Spanish-language film. Her feet are shown close-up as she
dances. Afterward her father places her shoes back on and handles her
feet as he does in medium close-up. (Note: a tilde appears over the
"n" in the film's title, but current software for this list prevents
its inclusion. Furthermore, while "monos" ("monkeys") is plural, the
title of the film retains the singular "la" rather than "las.")

* "A Simple Wish" 1997. Mara Wilson, 9 years old, displays her feet
in medium close-up in an early scene where she sits on her father's
lap and is lifted up to be taken to bed.

* "Jurassic Park 2 - The Lost World" 1997. Camilla Belle, 10 years
old, explores an island beach while barefoot. When she comes upon a
tiny dinosaur near the edge of the jungle, she kneels to examine the
creature and shows the bottoms of her feet in medium close-up.

* "FairyTale: A True Story" 1997. Florence Hoath, 12 years old, and
Elizabeth Earl, 10 years old, are barefoot while playing in a river,
and show their feet numerous times while walking about indoors,
climbing stairs and getting in and out of each other's beds as well as
their own. Most of the views are in medium close-up, with at least
one sole view in a fleeting moment as Florence brings her feet out
from under the covers to get out of bed. (Note: It is possible that
Elizabeth may have been 9 years old during the filming; her 10th
birthday was in February 1997 and the film was first screened at a
film festival seven months afterward. Many films are produced in a
one-year lead time before release.)

* "Little Girls in Pretty Boxes" 1997. Courtney Pelden, 15 years
old, and all of her friends show their feet throughout the entire
movie. In one scene Courtney arrives home from gymnastics school and
rips her shoes and socks off. She then uses her bare feet to
antagonize her mother who is on the telephone. This film is listed
here for those who may regard a 15-year-old as a child, although many
do not.

* "Madeline" 1998. Hatty Jones, 9 years old, in the title role, and
her various schoolmates appear barefoot several times in the movie as
they walk and run about in their nightgowns. In a couple of instances
Hatty shows the soles of her feet in medium close-up as she lies on
her stomach and reaches over the edge of a bed, and in a later scene
when she stoops to pet her dog.

* "Billboard Dad" 1998. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, 12 years old,
are members of a swim team who display their bare feet numerous times
in this straight-to-video film. The twins walk about barefoot at
poolside, and at one point on a lounge chair Mary-Kate lifts both feet
up and clearly displays her soles directly to the camera in medium
close-up. Ashley also shows the bottoms of her feet when she walks to
the diving platform. Later both girls display their feet, and Mary-
Kate her right sole, when they visit a pedicure salon.

* "Paulie" 1998. Hallie Kate Eisenberg, 5 years old, exhibits her
toes in extreme close-up several times while wearing sandals early in
the film. Minutes later, in a bedroom scene, she gives a brief
glimpse of her bare feet when she throws the covers back from the bed
and swings her legs to the floor.

* "The Parent Trap" 1998. Lindsay Lohan, 11 years old, has several
close-up barefoot scenes as she jumps out of her summer camp bed and
as she walks on a pier to dive into a lake. Later, in a scene at the
California home, her left sole is briefly seen when she tucks her legs
underneath herself.

* "A Map of the World" 1999. Kayla Perlmutter, about 5 years old,
cavorts barefoot upside-down in the lap of her mother, finally leaning
backward toward the camera to show her soles in medium close-up. She
also lies in a tangle in bed asleep with her sister, played by real-
life sister Dara Perlmutter, about 8 years old, and a neighbor girl,
Hayley Lochner, 8 years old, their bare feet shown in dim light but
somewhat obscured from view because of their overlapping positions.
In another bedroom scene, Kayla sleeps on her parents' bed with her
soles toward the lens, again in dim light, as the camera slowly
dollies to her. Dara also appears barefoot in a medium distance shot
while she stands on a kitchen chair.

* "Run the Wild Fields" 2000. Alexa Vega, 10 years old, shows her
bare feet, including a close-up of her toes, while she is getting
sized for a new dress by her mother. She also shows her feet in
medium close-up when an adult house guest picks her up and swings her
around prior to a dance lesson, and she shows her feet in medium
distance as she plants seeds in the family's farm fields.

* "The Miracle Worker" 2000. Hallie Kate Eisenberg, 7 years old, is
barefoot in a single scene in this TV-movie as she dangles her legs
from the edge of a pond. Best viewed by freeze-frame, Hallie shows
the bottoms of each of her feet singularly, then both at once, as she
splashes in the water in a medium distance shot.

* "Where the Heart is" 2000. Mackenzie Fitzgerald, 4 years old, can
be seen barefoot in this movie when she is sleeping with her friends,
who are also barefoot, on the couch downstairs. Their feet are seen
in medium close-up.

* "My Dog Skip" 2000. Caitlin Wachs, 10 years old, walks barefoot
through the woods with her boyfriend. Her feet are shown in medium
distance.

* "Snow Day" 2000. Zena Grey, 10 years old, climbs out of bed after
she awakes to find that it is snowing that morning. When she lifts
her legs from under the covers there is a brief but blurry view of her
feet in medium close-up, but then she climbs on a shelf in front of
her window and kneels to look out at the falling snow. With the
camera behind her, she shows the bottoms of both feet for several
seconds in medium close-up and holds them steady so that freeze-frame
is not required. (Note: "Snow Day" was released January 29, 2000;
Zena turned 11 on November 15, 1999. If the film was shot in the last
two months of 1999 she may have turned 11 during the production, but
most likely it was filmed earlier in 1999 when she was still 10. Thus
her age is listed as 10 in the opening note.)

* "The Others" 2001. Alakina Mann, 11 years old, is briefly shown
dancing barefoot in medium distance a sunlit room towards the end of
the movie.

* "Mockingbird Don't Sing" 2001. Tarra Steele, 10 years old, is kept
prisoner by her father and strapped to a chair while she is barefoot.
Early in the film there are many medium to close-up shots of her feet
as she sits in the chair.

* "Don't Say a Word" 2001. Skye McCole Bartusiak, 8 years old, after
being kidnapped and losing her sock in the struggle, is barefoot
throughout the entire movie. In one scene she is sitting on a bed and
her foot is dangling from the edge, and the camera slowly pans from
the bottom of the bed to the top, showing her toes in medium close-
up. Her soles can also be seen as she gets up and tries to
communicate with her mother.

* "Osmosis Jones" 2001. Elena Franklin, 12 years old, sits barefoot
on a couch near her father as he recovers from a stomach upset.
Elena's feet are shown briefly in medium distance as she sits and then
stands before walking to her dad.

* "In America" 2002. Sarah Bolger, 11 years old, shows the sides and
tops of her feet in close-up as she slowly descends the ladder of her
bunk bed in her pajamas. (It is possible she may have been 10 years
old when the scene was shot, but a production schedule to match
against the film's release date has not yet been found.)

* "The Ring" 2002. Daveigh Chase, 11 years old, climbs barefoot out
of a well and walks into a house to terrorize its inhabitants in this
horror film. During a part of this scene the camera shows her feet,
soiled and bruised and made up to appear as if she is a member of the
"undead," in close-up as she walks.

* "Stranded" 2002. Bonnie Wright, 10 years old, is shipwrecked on an
island with her family in this TV-movie. She is barefoot throughout
her time on screen, although her feet do not show in every shot. In
most scenes where her feet appear, the camera distance is medium.
However, in one scene in which she is swimming in a lagoon with her
family, her foot comes out of the water in medium close-up, although
it is a slightly blurry and quick view which requires freeze-frame.

* "Panic Room" 2002. Kristen Stewart, 11 years old, plays Jodie
Foster's diabetic daughter and displays her feet in medium close-up in
many scenes. At one point, when she goes into a coma, her soles are
shown in extreme close-up as she clinches her toes and then relaxes
them.

* "Whale Rider" 2002. Keisha Castle-Hughes, 11 years old, is
barefoot throughout nearly the entire film. Close-ups of her feet are
seen when she is riding a bicycle and when she climbs onto the back of
a beached whale. The bottoms of her feet clearly show in these latter
scenes. (Although the film was released when she was 12, she was 11
at the time of filming.) This movie ranks near the top of this list
in the large number of foot scenes therein, along with "Peter Pan" and
"Nim's Island".

* "We Were Soldiers" 2002. Sloane Momsen, 4 years old, is in pajamas
and barefoot as she prays with her family at bedside. While she
kneels, the camera lingers on her bare feet in near close-up, where
her soles are in three-quarter angle to the camera.

* "Uptown Girls" 2003. Dakota Fanning, 8 years old, shows the
bottoms of her feet when she is tossed to the floor after dancing with
her nanny, lands on her posterior, and quickly raises a foot as she
recovers, revealing her sole in medium close-up. She also displays
her feet in several other scenes, such as when she is serving pretend
"tea" with Brittany Murphy, with the camera showing Dakota's feet in
medium close-up as she sits at the table. She also is barefoot when
she leaves her room to visit her bedridden father down the hallway.

* "Off the Map" 2003. Valentina de Angelis, about 12 years old, lies
on her stomach near a lake as she writes a letter while wearing a
swimsuit. Her bare feet are raised behind her, and the camera shows
her left sole in medium distance as her right foot rests against the
left.

* "The Adventures of Ociee Nash" 2003. Skyler Day, 11 years old, in
the title role of 9-year-old Ociee (pronounced OH-see), shows her feet
on two separate occasions in this film, set in 1898 in the American
South. In one scene when she awakes in the morning, she brings her
feet out from under the covers, but both feet appear quickly and
slightly blurry in medium close-up. In a later scene, she gets into
bed at night and again quickly shows her feet, but freeze-frame and
step-advance reveal several frames in which her left sole is noticably
sharp and facing to the camera, with her right foot tucked beneath her
left ankle in a medium close-up view. Toward the end of the film,
Jasmine Sky, 12 years old, shows the bottom of her right foot when she
leaves her bed as she is rescued from her burning house, but her foot
is in faint light and details are difficult to see. When Jasmine
descends from a tree as she is rescued, her feet appear in medium
distance, but again in faint light.

* "Eloise at Christmastime" 2003. Sofia Vassilieva, 10 years old,
has a brief barefoot scene when she kicks the covers from her bed and
reveals her feet, including her soles at about a three-quarter angle
to the camera, positioned directly above the bed in medium distance in
this TV-movie.

* "Osama" 2003. Marina Golbahari, 13 years old, first appears
barefoot when she awakens while sleeping sitting up in a chair and
under a blanket. The camera focuses on her right foot in medium close-
up, then pans slowly up to her face. Later the camera, in an opposite
move, pans from her face to both her feet in medium close-up while she
jumps rope in a small interior room where she works. Still later she
climbs a tree in a school playground, then shows her feet in close-up
as she climbs upon a boy's shoulders when she descends from the tree.
She shows her soles in medium distance shots when she ascends the
tree, then in long shots when she is running away from the camera.

* "The Goodbye Girl" 2004. Hallie Kate Eisenberg, 11 years old, sits
on a bed and shows her soles at an angle in medium close-up with her
legs curled up at the beginning of this made-for-cable remake. When
she raises her feet to slip them under the covers, her left sole shows
directly to the camera in a instant which must be caught on freeze-
frame. At the end of the film, she again climbs off a bed and
displays her left foot again from the side in medium close-up.

* "Hotel Rwanda" 2004. Several girls about 8 years old to 10 years
old (whose identities could not be determined in the credits) dance an
African folk dance on a stage near the hotel about midway through the
film. All are barefoot, and the camera shows their feet in medium
close-up, particularly those of the lead dancer, about 10 years old,
and she reveals her soles as she moves.

* "Man on Fire" 2004. Dakota Fanning, 9 years old, is coached in
swimming lessons by her bodyguard and shows her bare feet many times
both under the water and topside when she stands and dives from the
edge of the pool during practice sessions and in competition. Most
are medium distance views of her feet from all angles, including her
soles, but one shot shows the top and sides of her feet in close-up
when she readies for a dive. Because of the fast action of the
swimming, freeze-frame is required for best views. In two other
scenes which take place in her bedroom, Dakota shows the bottoms of
her feet when she leaps into bed and slips her feet under the covers.
However, the distance is long and the scenes are dimly lit, making her
bareness of her feet difficult to see, if in fact she is barefoot and
not wearing socks.

* "Chestnut: Hero of Central Park" 2004. Abigail Breslin, 7 years
old, climbs into bed with her on-screen sister, Makenzie Vega, 9 years
old, at the orphanage where they live, and Abigail shows medium close-
up views of her bare feet, including the soles, as she does so. Later
in the film she shows them again as she once again climbs into bed
with Mackenzie, again in medium close-up, after they are adopted by a
couple. In one scene Makenzie displays her bare feet, including the
soles, when she accidentally falls into the tub while both girls are
washing their pet dog, the title character of the film. All of the
foot scenes are best viewed in freeze-frame and with the "zoom"
function if available.

* "Hide and Seek" 2005. Dakota Fanning, 10 years old, appears
barefoot in the doorway of the bathroom as her on-screen father
examines some eerie writing on the tile walls. Her feet are shown in
medium close-up as she stands. In other scenes in which she lies in
bed, she brings her feet out from under the covers, but the scenes are
from behind closet mini-shades and the views are obscured.

* "Because of Winn-Dixie" 2005. AnnaSophia Robb, 10 years old (who
sometimes is credited in her films with the spelling "Annasophia"),
appears barefoot in medium close-up as she washes her dog "Winn-Dixie"
in the front yard. She continues to show her feet in medium close-up
as she sits down minutes later on the front steps of her mobile home,
then in later scenes shows her feet as she gets into bed for the
night. At two separate times in the film she is barefoot as she walks
about the mobile home in her nightgown, although the scenes are partly
obscured by darkness. In perhaps the best scene, she is picked up by
her father while she is wearing her nightgown and barefoot and is
carried to bed, with her feet nearest to the camera in comparison with
other views. Her soles do not appear in any of the scenes, except
perhaps in one inside the mobile home in which she turns to walk away
from the camera, but freeze-frame would be required to see them, if
they are viewable at all. (Until the film is released on video or DVD
this will remain unconfirmed.)

* "Nine Lives" 2005. Dakota Fanning, 10 years old, appears in the
final segment of this nine-episode vignette of women's lives, when she
and her mother place a blanket on the ground for a picnic. Dakota
removes her shoes and reveals her feet, including her soles, in medium
close-up. Later she climbs a tree and shows the tops and soles of her
feet in medium close-up again.

* "Dark Water" 2005. Ariel Gade, 7 years old, bounces barefoot on
her bed as the camera views her feet in medium close-up, then she lies
down on the bed with her legs stretched out as the cameras views her
from an overhead angle in a medium shot. The scene is brief and only
the tops of her feet, not the soles, are shown.

* "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"
2005. Georgie Henley, 9 years old, slips her bare feet into boots
when she arises from bed early in the film in a medium close-up view.
Later in the movie she jumps out of bed barefoot to follow the lion
Aslan in a medium distance shot. In both scenes the tops and sides of
her feet are shown but not her soles. (Note: Although the film was
released in December 2005 when Georgie was 10, the movie was shot from
June to December 2004, from the time she was not quite 9 years old to
when she was 9 and 1/2 upon the film's completion.)

* "Water" 2005. Sarala Kariyawasam, 8 years old, is barefoot
throughout the entire film. She shows her bare feet in close-up
immediately in the opening scene, then proceeds to display her feet in
nearly every scene that follows. In this story about the treatment of
widowed women in 1938 India, Sarala's feet are shown from extreme
close-up to long distances throughout the film, with medium close-up
views the most abundant. In one scene her soles appear in medium
close-up as she lies down on a mat while a young adult woman briefly
tickles them, and in other scenes her soles show to the camera
whenever she walks away from it.

* "Little Miss Sunshine" 2006. Abigail Breslin, 9 years old, appears
barefoot during the swimsuit competition of the title pageant in
medium distance views, but the scene is brief. A better view is
earlier in the film when her grandfather puts her to bed and she shows
the bottoms of her feet clearly in medium close-up when she puts them
under the covers. The scene is best viewed in freeze-frame and with
the "zoom" function if available.

* "Bridge to Terabithia" 2007. Bailee Madison, 6 years old, briefly
shows her bare feet in medium distance when she runs to be picked up
by her father in her bedroom.

* "Definitely, Maybe" 2008. Abigail Breslin, 11 years old, appears
mainly barefoot in this film as she listens to a story from her father
in her bedroom about how her parents first met. In one scene she lies
on her bed while talking with her dad and lifts her legs behind her to
reveal the soles of both feet in medium close-up as she swings them
back and forth. When the camera dollies in toward the end of the
scene to concentrate on her father, Abigail's swinging left sole
appears as nearly a close-up off to the side of the screen. She also
shows her soles in a later scene when she pushes herself out of bed,
and in still another scene the tops of her feet are displayed when she
places them atop a low chest of drawers.

* "Nim's Island" 2008. Abigain Breslin, 11 years old, is barefoot
throughout most of the film in this story of a child who lives on a
remote island in the South Pacific with her father. The dozens of
foot scenes range from long distance to close-up, with most in medium
close-up. For example, her bare feet slosh through surf and run the
dense green growth in close-up, and wrap themselves around a sliding
rope ride in medium close-up. In a scene which shows her soles in
another medium close-up, she props both feet on a table as she talks
on the phone, and in a separate phone scene has the long curly phone
line placed between her toes. The phone scenes give a longer view of
her feet in a single take than any other shot, and give by far the
most extended views of the bottoms of her feet. Her soles appear in
many other shots, but only briefly, as when for example she is walking
along the beach. Along with "Peter Pan" and "Whale Rider", this film
ranks near the top of this list in total foot scenes.

5. GIRLFEET/BOYFEET

* "Anthony Adverse" 1936. Billy Mauch, 11 years old, is barefoot in
all his scenes. He is seated at a well ledge and showing the bottoms
of his feet in medium close-up when he first appears. As he walks
about he also shows his soles in various distances, and when he sits
at a couch in his bedroom the tops of his feet are shown in medium
close-up. He also displays his soles in medium distance when he
climbs a tree and when walking up stairs after meeting Ann Howard, 11
years old (at most, and possibly 10 years old at time of filming).
Ann is also barefoot in her brief scenes, and the tops of her feet
show in medium close-up. When Billy walks escorted by a priest into
the town square, numerous boys in bare feet follow him about and
pester him, with their feet displayed in medium to medium-long
distances.

* "The Blue Bird" 1940. Shirley Temple, 11 years old, does not
appear barefoot at any time in this film; however, when she and her
brother visit a heavenly place where children wait to be born on
Earth, they encounter dozens of boys and girls ranging in age from
about 4 to 10 years old, all of whom are barefoot.

* "Our Vines Have Tender Grapes" 1945. Margaret O'Brien, 8 years
old, and Jackie "Butch" Jenkins, 8 years old, walk barefoot down a
dirt road at the beginning of the film in a scene that moves from
medium-long to medium close-up views. Both children have many other
barefoot scenes as they return to the farm where Margaret lives,
including when they are ringing the dinner bell outside and when they
lift their legs as they climb over a corral fence to see livestock.
Margaret shows one of her soles when she does the latter, and both
children display their soles as they walk and run from the camera in
medium to long distances. Margaret is also barefoot in medium close-
up when she sits one night with her mother on the porch steps, and
"Butch" is barefoot in a medium-distance scene as Margaret skates
around the silo.

* "So Dear to my Heart" 1949. Luana Patten, 10 years old, and Bobby
Driscoll, 11 years old, walk about barefoot numerous times in this
film set in a rural area.

* "Houseboat" 1958. Paul Petersen, 12 years old, Charles Herbert, 9
years old, and Mimi Gibson, 9 years old, live aboard a houseboat with
their widowed father and walk about barefoot on deck in numerous
scenes, sometimes dangling their feet in the water.

* "A High Wind in Jamaica" 1965. Deborah Baxter, about 12 years old,
climbs a rope ladder aboard the pirate ship where she and her siblings
have accidentally stowed away and shows the bottoms of her feet as she
ascends. She also slides about barefoot on the wet ship deck, along
with her on-screen siblings Roberta Tovey, 11 years old, Jeffrey
Chandler, about 10 years old, and Karen Flack, about 6 years old, as
well as her on-screen friend Henry Beltran, about 12 years old, with
their feet out in front of them as they slide on their backsides.
Roberta's soles can be seen in medium distance as she is sliding, if
freeze-frame is used. Both Jeffrey and Henry show the bottoms of
their feet in medium close-up as they lounge on the ships' ropes and
netting. Martin Amis, 15 years old, who also appears barefoot, may
not be considered by some filmgoers as a "child" for purposes of this
list.

* "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" 1968. Heather Ripley, 7 years old, and
Adrian Hall, 7 years old, both show their bare feet while playing on
the beach. In a medium close-up shot, Adrian displays the soles of
his feet as they stick out of the sand in which he's been buried.
Heather's feet are shown in medium close-up from the tops and sides as
she walks about in the tide, and her soles are slightly visible in
long shots as she runs. (Although the film was released in 1968 when
both Heather and Adrian were 9 years old, they were 7 when the film
was actually shot.)

* "The Blue Lagoon" 1980. Elva Josephson, 10 years old, sits on the
beach with her feet out in front of her and later swims in the ocean
with Glenn Kohan, 10 years old, who both show their feet as they swim.

* "Witness" 1985. Lukas Haas, 8 years old, gives a brief partial
glimpse of his bare feet when he sits beside his mother to observe the
barn raising activity in this film of Amish life. Other boys and
girls also appear barefoot during the event.

* "Summer Rental" 1985. Aubrey Jene, about 6 years old, and Joey
Lawrence, 9 years old, appear barefoot in numerous scenes in this
comedy set at a beach house. The barefoot views are medium distance.

* "She's Out of Control" 1989. Laura Mooney, about 11 years old,
shows the upper half of her left sole in medium distance for a few
seconds as she sits cross-legged on the beach. In separate scenes,
Michael Bower, 13 years old, and Dustin Diamond, 11 years old, show
various views of their feet, particularly medium close-up views of
their soles as they run from Laura's on-screen father on the beach.
Other boys, uncredited, also appear. As in "Heidi," noted above,
admirers of girlfeet may find only the half-view of Laura's left sole
to be unsatisfying, but others may find even that to be worthwhile.
The ages of Michael and Dustin are based on an approximation of the
actual shooting of the film in relation to their birthdates.

* "Sidekicks" 1992. Jonathan Brandis, 16 years old, who stars in
this film is unlikely to be considered a "child" for this list in this
karate film in which he appears barefoot. However, many boys and
girls 12 and under who compete in the karate tournament toward the end
of the film show their feet, and often their soles.

* "The Secret Garden" 1993. Kate Maberly, 10 years old, wears her
nightgown and shows the bottoms of her feet as she rests on her knees
and looks out a window with the camera behind her. She also shows her
soles in muted light when she crawls from underneath a bed in her
nightgown. In another scene, her on-screen cousin, Heydon Prowse, 10
years old, lies on his back on a gurney in his nightshirt as he is
being given physical therapy, and the bottoms of his feet show to the
camera in medium close-up. In still another scene, both Kate and
Heydon are asleep together on top of the bed, each in their
nightclothes, and the camera pans slowly from the end of the bed to
the head of it and shows the bare feet of both children, their soles
at angle to the camera. This latter scene is best viewed in letterbox
edition. Throughout the film both Kate and Heydon appear barefoot in
many scenes, although some views are relatively distant.

* "Addams Family Values" 1993. Christina Ricci, 13 years old, is
sent to a summer camp where she participates in a skit as a barefoot
American Indian princess. Her feet are shown in medium distance.
Other children, boys and girls both, are shown barefoot in these
scenes as well.

* "Four Rooms" 1995. Lana McKissack, 10 years old, and Danny
Verduzco, about 8 years old, remove their shoes and socks in a hotel
room, and their feet are shown in medium distance in most of the
scene. However, at one point Lana lies on a hotel bed and extends the
bottom of her foot toward her on-screen younger brother, where her
sole appears in close-up.

* "Harriet the Spy" 1996. Michelle Trachtenberg, 10 years old, and
her friends, Gregory Smith, 12 years old, and Vanessa Lee Chester, 11
years old, draw a design on their soles as an indication of their
solidarity. In this scene, the feet of all three children are
generally in medium close-up but have an extreme close-up view also,
particularly of Gregory's foot as it is drawn upon. Michelle also has
a scene in the bathtub where she brings her foot out of the tub, her
sole in full view of the camera in medium close-up. Additionally, she
has a scene in a girls' restroom where she removes one shoe and sock,
and places her foot in a wash fountain.

* "Leave It to Beaver" 1997. Cameron Finley, 9 years old, lies
barefoot on his bed, then stands up on it, in a medium-close up shot.
Later in the film, Erik von Detten, 14 years old, and Erika
Christensen, 14 years old, sit barefoot on the edge of pier and dangle
their feet in the water in medium-long distance.

* "The Education of Little Tree" 1997. Joseph Ashton, 10 years old,
stars in this film about Native American prejudice in the early 20th
century and appears barefoot briefly when he removes his shoes while
climbing a trail with his grandfather. Mika Boorem, 9 years old, also
appears in the film as his friend and is barefoot in all of her
scenes, and when she puts on a moccasin the camera shows her right
foot in close-up.

* "Jungle 2 Jungle" 1997. Sam Huntington, 14 years old, appears
barefoot in nearly all of his scenes in this tale of a rainforest
child transplanted to New York City. From the opening shot of his
climbing a mountain and standing on its peak, to walking about on the
beach and sleeping in his hammock, the tops of his feet show
throughout. In brief moments his soles can be seen when he walks away
from the camera and, in one medium close-up scene, when he is sitting
with his mother at the end of the film as she reads a story to him;
however, his soles are obscured in normal full-screen format and can
best be seen in widescreen ("letterbox") format. During scenes in the
rainforest village, numerous boys and girls walk and run about in bare
feet. Other barefoot scenes of Sam, too many to list, include when he
is walking through a New York fountain and climbing the crown of the
Statue of Liberty. His on-screen girlfriend, Leelee Sobieski, 14
years old, appears barefoot when she sleeps in a hammock with Sam and
when she defends having done so while in the kitchen with her
parents. Leelee's on-screen little brother, Frankie J. Galasso, 11
years old, shows his bare feet in a long shot as he descends the
stairs and briefly in a medium shot when he walks into the kitchen
during the family argument about the hammock-sleeping. All three
children look younger than their years as calculated here, perhaps
because this film may have been in production when they were 13 and
10, respectively, but this has not been confirmed. The Internet Movie
Database has a submitted note that Sam was screen-tested at 13 for the
film but does not state the dates of production.

* "Peter Pan" 2003. Rachel Hurd-Wood, 12 years old, who plays Wendy
in this classic children's tale, is barefoot throughout the entire
film, with the exception of one very brief scene near the beginning in
which she wears slippers. Entirely barefoot from beginning to end are
Jeremy Sumpter, 13 years old, as Peter Pan, and Wendy's brothers
played by Harry Newell, about 12 years old, and Freddie Popplewell,
about 8 years old. As they fly about, all four main characters
frequently show their bare soles and well as all angles of their
entire feet. The Lost Boys also have many barefoot scenes. The
hugely numerous shots of all ranges -- close-up, medium close-up,
medium and distant -- are too numerous to list here, but of note is a
close-up of Rachel's feet as she stands on her window sill and later
when she "walks the plank" on Captain Hook's ship. Also of note is an
extreme close-up of Jeremy's sole at the beginning of the children's
flight from the Darling's home, when Jeremy, as Peter Pan, advises
Harry to grab his ankle and "hang on and don't let go." This film
shows more children's feet scenes with more screen time than any other
on this list in terms of numbers of children shown to be barefoot,
while "Whale Rider" and "Nim's Island" show the most foot scenes of a
single actress. (This film was shot in the fall of 2002 but released
in December 2003, and therefore the actors' ages at time of filming
are as shown in this paragraph.)

* "Nobody Knows" 2004. Yuya Yagira, 12 years old, Ayu Kitaura, 10
years old, Hiei Kimura, 7 years old, and Momoko Shimizu, 5 years old,
all show their bare feet at various times in this film about four
children abandoned by their mother. As the film begins, the children
are all wearing socks as they play about their apartment, but as the
movie progresses they remove their socks to go barefoot, probably
because of the heat. (Abandoned with little money to pay bills, the
children experience their electrical power eventually being cut off.)
In one scene Yuya's soles are in extreme close-up as he prepares to
shower. In other scenes the bottoms of the feet of Yuya, Ayu, and
Hiei appear in medium close-up as they sleep or walk about. A close-
up of Ayu's feet is shown when she stands on tip-toe to look out onto
the street from their apartment. Momoko's feet are also shown
occasionally, once in extreme close-up, but only the top of her foot,
not her sole. (Note: The ages of the children are shown as of the
beginning of filming in late 2002, which continued for 18 months
before release. The audience will therefore see the young actors
growing somewhat, and hear Yuya's voice beginning to break.)

* "Little Manhattan" 2005. Josh Hutcherson, 11 years old, and
Charlie Ray, 12 years old, frequently show their feet throughout this
film. Near the beginning of the story Josh displays his soles in his
bedroom in medium close-up, while Charlie shows her soles in close-up
and sometimes almost extreme close-up during her karate sessions with
Josh. Various other boys in the karate scenes are barefoot as well.

6. BOYFEET

* "The Champ" 1931. Jackie Cooper, 8 years old, lies on his back on
his bed with his feet out in front of him as he gets undressed to go
to sleep. The views are medium close-up.

* "How Green Was My Valley" 1941. Roddy McDowall, 12 years old, lies
on his stomach on a table in his house with his feet in the air and
shows his soles. The views are medium close-up.

* "The Yearling" 1946. Claude Jarman, Jr., 11 years old, shows his
bare feet from all angles, including his soles, throughout the film
set in rural Florida, USA, of the late 19th century. Views of his
feet range from medium to medium close-up.

* "Oliver Twist" 1948. John Howard Davies, 9 years old, scrubs
floors on his hands and knees barefoot with the camera behind him, the
bottoms of his feet to the camera in medium close-up.

* "The Clown" 1953. Tim Considine, 11 years old, shows his bare feet
as he lies on his bed while talking with his father. His soles are
visible in medium close-up.

* "It Started in Naples" 1960. Marietto Angeletti, 9 years old,
walks around the streets and his apartment barefoot in many scenes,
and shows his soles in medium close-up when lying about on his bed.

* "Pete's Dragon" 1977. Sean Marshall, 11 years old, rides barefoot
atop an animated dragon in this live-action feature and is picked up
by the friendly dragon and swung back and forth. Sean's bare feet
show in medium to medium close-up views at times, and his soles show
quickly in a partial view when he lands in a haystack.

* "The Black Stallion" 1979. Kelly Reno, 12 years old, displays his
bare feet from all angles, including his soles, when he is cast ashore
on an island after a shipwreck and befriends a wild horse. In
addition to showing his feet as he walks about the island, Kelly
displays them when he leaps to the back of the stallion and rides him
along the beaches. The best views of the bottoms of his feet,
however, occur when he swims underwater away from the camera in
separate scenes.

* "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" 1982. Henry Thomas, 10 years old,
lies on a gurney barefoot as doctors examine him and his friend E.T.
in a special lab. The bottoms of Henry's feet are shown in medium
close-up.

* "Oliver Twist" 1982. Richard Charles, 10 years old, appears
barefoot in numerous scenes in this made-for-TV movie.

* "The Buddy System" 1984. Wil Wheaton, 11 years old, shows the
bottoms of his feet in medium distance as he plays frisbee on the
beach.

* "Misunderstood" 1984. Henry Thomas, 10 years old, and Huckleberry
Fox, 7 years old, show their feet in medium to medium close-up range
as they play about in their pajamas on their bunk beds. Filmed in
1982, this movie was not released until March 1984.

* "D.A.R.Y.L." 1985. Barret Oliver, 11 years old, is barefoot on a
gurney as he is rolled into an examination machine. The camera is
overhead and in a comparatively long distance from Barret, but the
tops of his bare feet are clearly evident.

* "Stand by Me" 1986. Wil Wheaton, 13 years old, walks barefoot from
a campfire to see his friend River Phoenix and shows the bottoms of
his feet in medium close-up as he walks.

* "Where the River Runs Black" 1986. Alessandro Rabelo, about 10
years old, is a long-haired "wild child" in the Amazonian jungle who
shows his feet constantly during the first two-thirds of the film, and
frequently displays his soles as he dives in the river.

* "Vice Versa" 1988. Fred Savage, 11 years old, displays a bare foot
in close-up while recovering from a sprain. The foot is in the
foreground of the shot and shows his sole in slightly soft focus.

* "Cinema Paradiso" 1989. Salvatore Cascio, 9 years old, apprentices
to an elderly movie projectionist and in one scene is placed upon a
stool so he can be better positioned to the projector. Salvatore is
barefoot in this scene, and his feet are shown close-up as he placed
on the stool. This is an Italian-language film available with
subtitles.

* "Dutch" 1991. Ethan Randall (later known as Ethan Embry), 12 years
old, shows his soles in medium distance, including the bottoms of his
feet, as he practices karate on a pad in the gymnasium of his boarding
school.

* "What About Bob?" 1991. Charlie Korsmo, 12 years old, walks
barefoot in his swimming trunks out to the end of a pier where his
father tries to teach him to dive into a lake. Charlie does this in
two separate scenes, once with his father and once with an adult
friend. In the first scene, the camera shows Charlie from the waist
down in medium close-up as he turns to position his toes at the edge
of the pier, and he further shows his feet in medium distance as he
walks away in refusal. In the second scene in medium close-up, he is
sitting on an upside-down bucket on the pier while barefoot, then
walks to demonstrate how to dive to the adult friend and shows his
soles at an angle in medium distance as he walks. He then shows his
feet and partially his soles when he dives into the lake. Moments
later, when the adult friend is accidentally knocked into the water by
Charlie's dad, Charlie shows his soles directly to the camera in
medium-long distance as he lies down on the pier to help retrieve his
friend. Later in a bedroom scene, Charlie jumps on his bed and shows
his soles at an angle in medium close-up.

* "The Power of One" 1992. Guy Witcher, 7 years old, gets picked up
in the boarding school bathroom and shows the bottoms of his feet in
medium close-up as he is carried off.

* "Free Willy" 1993. Jason James Richter, 12 years old, shows his
bare feet many times, including his soles when he walks poolside, in
medium close-up to close-up shots when he is poolside with Willy the
killer whale (portrayed by Keiko the orca) and when he is swimming
with Willy in the water.

* "Dennis the Menace" 1993. Mason Gamble, 7 years old, kneels on a
short stepladder in the bathroom and shows his bare feet in medium
close-up from the side. Later he shows the bottoms of his feet in
medium distance when he jumps into bed quickly, requiring freeze-frame
to view well.

* "The Force" 1994. Jarrett Lennon, 12 years old, wears a karate
uniform in one scene and performs martial arts moves while barefoot.
The bottoms of his feet show in medium close-up when he raises his
legs to perform the moves, although they are quick and require freeze-
frame to observe his soles more closely.

* "Stepmom" 1998. Liam Aiken, 8 years old, is in his pajamas and
barefoot as he stands on his bed and lip-syncs "Ain't No Mountain High
Enough" with his family. He is also picked up and held for further
barefoot scenes.

* "Big Daddy" 1999. Cole and Dylan Sprouse, 6 years old, who as
twins alternate in the role of Julian, show bare feet in a bedroom
scene where Julian is wearing pajamas. In a medium distance shot,
Julian's soles clearly show as he tosses and turns on the bed.

* "The Sixth Sense" 1999. Haley Joel Osment, 10 years old, kneels in
two separate scenes to reveal the bottoms of his feet in medium close-
up while he is wearing pajamas, although both scenes are in low
light. He also shows his feet in medium and medium close-up shots
when he gets out of bed and walks about the house.

* "The Miracle of the Cards" 2001. Thomas Sangster, 11 years old,
who portrays a child with a life-threatening illness, is rolled on a
gurney into a hospital MRI machine. The bottoms of his bare feet are
in medium close-up as he is moved.

* "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles" 2001. Serge Cockburn, 10 years
old, shows his feet in soft focus as he appears in a background shot
while wearing his pajamas.

* "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" 2001. Daniel Radcliffe, 11
years old, climbs in his pajamas atop a window seat ledge to gaze out
the window, and he displays his bare feet as he does so.

* "AI: Artificial Intelligence" 2002. Haley Joel Osment, 12 years
old, is barefoot in a swimming pool scene and shows the bottoms of his
feet in medium close-up as he walks about.

* "Love Actually" 2003. Thomas Sangster, 12 years old, is pulled
playfully back on a couch and shows the bottoms of his feet in motion
as he falls. A scene later, he is resting on the couch with his feet
on the coffee table, and his soles are shown in an even closer shot
than the previous one, which itself was in medium close-up. Also, his
feet as they rest on the table remain perfectly still for clearer
viewing, although his feet are clipped slightly at the bottom of the
screen even in wide-screen format. (Note: This film was released in
September 2003, four months after Thomas turned 13 in May. It is
presumed he was 12 when the film was made because of the usually
longer lead time than four months from shooting to release.)

* "Finding Neverland" 2004. Luke Spill, about 5 years old, is being
carried to his bed sideways by his mother. He shows the bottoms of
his feet in medium close-up as his mother passes through the left side
of the frame, while the bottom half of Luke's body fills the center of
the frame and displays both his bare soles. In the scene that
follows, Freddie Highmore, 11 years old (but looking much younger),
along with his on-screen brothers Joe Prospero, 15 years old, and Nick
Roud, 14 years old (both also looking younger), are imagined by an
onlooking J.M. Barie, author of "Peter Pan," to be flying out the
bedroom window in their nightshirts. All the boys are barefoot and
show the bottoms of their feet in medium distance as they exit the
window.

* "Les Choristes" 2004. Maxence Perrin, 5 years old, shows his feet
in medium close-up when the covers are pulled back from his bed by
other schoolmates in his dormitory.

* "Dear Frankie" 2004. Jack McElhone, 10 years old, climbs into bed
and shows the bottoms of his feet in medium close-up as he does so.
Later in the film he appears barefoot as he lies upside-down on his
back on a couch with his feet up against a wall, and later still when
he is sitting up in his bed, both in medium distance shots. In
another scene, the tops of his feet are shown in close-up as his
mother touches a couple of his toes.

* "Ring 2" 2005. David Dorfman, 11 years old, gets out of bed
barefoot when hearing mysterious noises from the living room. When he
enters the room he pauses, then proceeds to the television displaying
a static screen and kneels in front of it. His soles are shown in
medium distance. In a separate scene, David is shown getting into a
bathtub and displays his feet in medium close-up.

* "Following Sean" 2005. Sean Farrell, 4 years old, sits barefoot on
a couch and plays in the streets barefoot in this full-length
documentary sequel based on the 1969 documentary short "Sean", about a
child growing up in the Haight-Ashbury hippie neighborhood of San
Francisco. The views of his feet range from medium distance to close-
up, including his soles.

* "Duma" 2005. Alex Michaeletos, about 12 years old, shows his soles
in medium close-up as he lies in bed with his feet sticking out of the
covers. The shot lingers for many seconds. His feet also appear
during a swim session in a pool in medium distance. In an early scene
in the film he runs barefoot to the toilet with his pet cheetah in his
arms, but the scene is brief and his feet not easy to see.

* "A Good Year" 2006. Freddie Highmore, 13 years old, stands
barefoot on a diving board at a swimming pool and jumps into the
water. An initial shot shows his feet close-up on the board, then his
feet can be seen in medium distance as he jumps and dives.

* "Vitus" 2006. Fabrizio Borsani, about 6 years old, twice displays
the soles of his feet in two different scenes in medium close-up when
the camera pans slowly along the edge of his bed.

7. CARTOON GIRLFEET AND BOYFEET

* "The Jungle Book" 1967. Bruce Reitherman, 11 years old, voices the
character Mowgli, about 10 years old, in this jungle tale of a wild
child who is barefoot throughout the movie. In many scenes Mowgli's
soles are shown, some in medium close-up. At the end of the film, the
character Shanti, about 10 years old and voiced by Darleen Carr, 16
years old, is introduced as she gathers water into her jug from a
stream. Shanti is barefoot in the scene.

* "The Rescuers" 1977. Michelle Stacy, about 7 years old, voices the
character Penny, about 6 years old, in this film of mice rescuing a
kidnapped little girl. Penny appears barefoot, with her soles briefly
showing, as she climbs about her bed and while getting dressed.

* "The Snowman" 1982. A cartoon boy, about 6 years old, shows the
bottoms of his feet in two separate scenes in this British short film,
based on the wordless picture book for children. No actors provided
voices for the boy or any other characters. In both scenes the boy is
wearing pajamas and leaves his bed to reveal his feet in medium close-
up.

* "Inspector Gadget" 1985. Holly Berger, 12 years old, voices the
character Penny, about 10 years old, in this time-travel story in
which Inspector Gadget and his niece return to prehistoric days.
Penny discovers her ancestor from the past, an exact look-alike named
Cave Penny, also voiced by Holly, who walks about barefoot throughout
her scenes showing her feet in medium views, with one close-up toward
the end of the story. This episode, titled "Tyrannosaurus Gadget,"
was first broadcast December 28, 1985.

* "The B.F.G." 1989. Amanda Root, an adult, voices the character
Sophie, about 10 years old, in a film about a Big Friendly Giant (the
acronym of the title). In one scene, Sophie splashes about in an
indoor swimming pool and shows her feet often, once raising her foot
out of the water to reveal her sole.

* "All Dogs Go to Heaven" 1989. Judith Barsi, 9 years old, voices
the character Anne-Marie, about 6 years old, a little girl who runs
away and befriends a pack of talking dogs. In one scene she climbs
into the back seat of a car to go to sleep, and her soles are shown in
medium close-up to the camera as she lies down.

* "The Little Mermaid" 1989. Jodi Benson, an adult, voices the
character Ariel, about 16 years old, in this film about a mermaid who
wishes to have legs and explore humankind on dry land. Although the
character is a teenager and perhaps not considered by some moviegoers
as a child, she shows and wiggles a foot, revealing her sole in close-
up, when she is first transformed on the beach into a human. She then
appears barefoot in following scenes as she adapts to land.

* "Aladdin" 1994. Rajib, a boy of about 12, runs about causing
mischief, all the while completely barefoot, in this half-hour cartoon
series based upon the 1992 film. Among many scenes, he falls back on
his backside and climbs over a barrel, showing the bottoms of his feet
every time in medium close-up views. He also hijacks a huge robot and
works the foot pedals inside to make the machine move, showing his
feet again from different angles. So far, research has failed to find
the actor who voiced the character, the title of the episode or the
exact original airdate, but work is ongoing to find this information.
The end credits indicated this episode was first aired in 1994.

* "Pokemon: Hang Ten, Pikachu" 2000. Veronica Taylor, an adult,
voices the character Ash Ketchum, about 12 years old, in this
compilation of three television episodes which aired consecutively in
October 1999. In the middle episode of the three, Ash goes surfing
and has a number of barefoot scenes, including close-ups of his soles
and various other angles of his feet. When he first runs toward the
ocean in his swim trunks and holds his surfboard with his back to the
camera, the bottoms of his feet are clearly seen in freeze-frame. One
scene contains an error in which Ash is grasping his surfboard while
nearly submerged in the ocean, in which Ash has two left feet, a
result of duplicating the drawing and placing them side by side.
Nonetheless, many filmgoers may find the shot satisfactory, and all
other barefoot scenes are correctly drawn. In flashback scenes, the
guest character Victor as a child, about 8 years old (the name of the
actor voicing the child is uncertain), has close-up scenes of his feet
as he runs and lies on his surfboard. Rachael Lillis, an adult,
voices Misty, about 12 years old, who has one scene in which she is
barefoot in a medium-long shot. This episode, titled "The Pi-Kahuna,"
first aired October 2, 1999.

* "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" 2000. Tara Strong,
later known as Tara Charendoff, 17 years old, voices the character
Melody, about 12 years old, daughter of Ariel, in this straight-to-
video movie about a human child with two legs who wishes to explore
the sea as her mother did when Ariel was a mermaid. Melody is
barefoot in many scenes before she is transformed into a mermaid
herself.

* "Dora the Explorer" 2000. Kathleen Herles, 9 years old, voices the
Latina character Dora, 7 years old, in this popular animated
television series. In one episode, Dora wishes to go to the beach
with her friends on a very hot day, and she proceeds as usual through
a maze of obstacles until she reaches her destination. She wears
shoes and socks until she arrives, and while she is not shown removing
her shoes and socks, she is seen barefoot from a middle distance as
she walks about on the sand. The views are of the tops of her feet
rather than her soles. This episode, titled "Beaches," was first
broadcast in September 2000. (The exact airdate in September is
unknown thus far.)

* "Spirited Away" 2001. Daveigh Chase, 11 years old, voices the
character Chihiro/Sen, about 10 years old, in this Japanese film of a
little girl who mistakenly enters an alternative world of witches and
ghosts. She is told by one of its inhabitants, "You will not need
shoes [in this world]...or socks," and she removes them to appear
barefoot in nearly every remaining scene of the film. Beginning with
long distant shots of her feet, later scenes show them in a range from
medium to close-up views, as well as several close-ups of her soles,
such as when she walks across a water pipe or falls backward from the
edge of a large bathtub. Close-ups of her feet also appear in
underwater views and in a flashback sequence. Originally voiced by
Rumi Hiiragi, 13 years old, this English-language version was released
in 2002.

* "Lilo and Stitch" 2002. Daveigh Chase, 11 years old, voices the
character Lilo, about 6 years old, in this tale of a little Hawaiian
girl who befriends a dog-like alien. Lilo appears barefoot throughout
the film, with frequent views of the bottoms of her feet.

* "The Jungle Book 2" 2003. Haley Joel Osment, 14 years old, voices
the character Mowgli, about 11 years old, in this sequel. Once again
Mowgli and his young girlfriend Shanti, about 11 years old and voiced
by Mae Whitman, 14 years old, appear barefoot throughout the film and
often show their soles.

* "Strawberry Shortcake: Seaberry Beach Party" 2005. Sarah Heinke,
14 years old, voices the character Strawberry Shortcake, about 6 years
old, in this story of a group of little girls at a beach party and
their various adventures. Strawberry Shortcake appears barefoot with
her friends in many scenes, especially in the second episode of this
two-episode program, in views ranging from distant to extreme close-
up, but mostly in medium close-up. In one scene the girls are lying
on the beach and performing a song in which they cross and uncross
their legs, showing the soles of their feet as they do so. One
character, Seaberry Delight, about 6 years old, voiced by Abigail Leib

* "The Twilight Zone" 1962. Susan Gordon, 12 years old, is barefoot
in a bedroom scene as she lies down in her pajamas, and later shows
the bottoms of her feet as she and a double walk barefoot out of the
room as twins. This episode, titled "The Fugitive," was first
broadcast March 9, 1962.

* "The Twilight Zone" 1964. Mary Badham, 11 years old, is barefoot
in the entire episode as she walks about a backyard pool and swims in
it. She shows the bottoms of her feet when she dives in and in some
underwater scenes. This episode, titled "The Bewitchin' Pool," was
first broadcast June 19, 1964.

* "The Andy Griffith Show" 1964. Ronny Howard, 10 years old, finds a
lost wallet with $50 in it and reclines on top of his bed to study a
toy catalog to see what he can buy. As he lies with his legs out, the
camera shows his feet at a 3/4 angle in medium close-up, including his
soles, and moves in a slow arc to reveal his feet in a more straight-
on view. (Ronny also appears barefoot at the opening credits of each
episode as he walks with a fishing pole to a lake with his dad, in
views that are medium-long distance, in which Ronny shows his right
sole as he throws a rock into the lake while stepping forward.) This
episode, titled "Opie's Fortune," was first broadcast November 16,
1964.

* "Bonanza" 1968. Linda Sue Risk, about 10 years old, turns up at
the Cartwright ranch as a scruffy child who requires bathing. After
her bath and in some bedroom scenes, she is barefoot and occasionally
shows her soles in medium close-up. This episode, titled "Little Girl
Lost," was first broadcast November 3, 1968.

* "The Brady Bunch" 1970. Mike Lookinland, 9 years old, sprains his
ankle and must lie in bed to heal. While lying down in his pajamas,
he shows the bottoms of both his bare feet, although the right sole is
wrapped in a bandage and the view of his arch is obscured. The shot
is in medium close-up. This episode, titled "What Goes Up...", was
first broadcast December 11, 1970.

* "The Brady Bunch" 1971. Susan Olsen, 10 years old, Mike
Lookinland, 10 years old, Eve Plumb, 13 years old, Christopher Knight,
13 years old, Maureen McCormick, 15 years old (and possibly a late-14
at time of filming), and Barry Williams, 16 years old, are trapped in
an abandoned Old West jail. They resort to retrieving the jailhouse
keys by removing their shoes and socks as a way of knocking the keys
off the wall and pulling them to the jail cell. Before the retrieval
attempt, the camera does a slow left-to-right pan of their bare feet
in a legs-only shot from a medium close-up distance. This episode,
titled "Ghost Town, U.S.A.", was first broadcast September 17, 1971.

* "ZOOM" 1972. Edith Mooers, 8 years old, Danny McGrath, 11 years
old, and Bernadette Yao, 12 years old, are perhaps the most prominent
children who appear barefoot frequently in this public television
series. In the earliest years of the show, every child in the cast
went barefoot as part of the ZOOMer's "look," along with rugby shirts
and dark slacks. There were usually 7 boys and girls in the cast at
any one time during a show, and they would periodically be replaced by
other boys and girls, who would continue the "tradition" of going
barefoot.

* "Punky Brewster" 1984. Soleil Moon Frye, 8 years old, shows the
bottom of one of her feet when she swings her legs up while lying on
the couch in the apartment of her guardian, Henry. When first taped,
Soleil was wearing socks as she lay on the couch, but in a re-shoot
and edit, her feet are bare when she lifts them up. This episode,
titled "Punky Finds a Home, Part 1," was first broadcast September 16,
1984.

* "Punky Brewster" 1984. Soleil Moon Frye, 8 years old, and Cherie
Johnson, 8 years old, are taken to a lake with other friends by
Punky's guardian Henry to go fishing. Soleil shows her bare feet
several times, including several scenes in which the bottoms of her
feet are seen mostly in medium close-up, such as a scene in which she
dangles her feet from the pier just above the water and then sits
back. Cherie displays the tops and sides of her feet in medium
distance, but not the soles, as she also sits at the pier and dangles
her feet. This episode, titled "Gone Fishin'," was first broadcast
October 14, 1984.

* "Punky Brewster" 1984. Soleil Moon Frye, 8 years old, displays
various views of her feet in medium close-up, including her soles, as
she climbs into her bed and then consoles her foster father Henry
about their apparently lost opportunity to see the Chicago Cubs in a
playoff game. This episode, titled "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," was
first broadcast October 21, 1984.

* "Punky Brewster" 1984. Soleil Moon Frye, 8 years old, is sent to
bed by foster father Henry as he secretly plans to watch a television
operetta without disturbance from Punky. As Soleil climbs into her
bed, the bottoms of her feet are visible in medium close-up. This
episode, titled "Go to Sleep," was first broadcast November 4, 1984.

* "Punky Brewster" 1984. Soleil Moon Frye, 8 years old, is barefoot
and pillow fighting in her bedroom with Cherie Johnson, 8 years old,
and Ami Foster, 9 years old, both of whom are also barefoot. They
discuss an upcoming children's beauty pageant, and a few minutes later
Soleil climbs into her bed and shows the bottoms of her feet in medium
close-up as she does so. Cherie and Ami show quick views of their
feet from the sides and tops but not the soles. This episode, titled
"Miss Adorable," was first broadcast November 25, 1984.

* "Punky Brewster" 1984. Soleil Moon Frye, 8 years old, shows her
soles in medium close-up as she climbs into bed in this story of her
broken doll named "My" being discarded by her on-screen foster father
Henry. This episode, titled "Bye Bye My," was first broadcast on
December 9, 1984.

* "Punky Brewster" 1985. Soleil Moon Frye, 8 years old, shows
various angles of her feet, including her soles, in medium close-up
when she goes to bed in this story of Punky and her friends making a
workout video. This episode, titled "Punky Brewster's Workout," was
first broadcast on February 24, 1985.

* "Punky Brewster" 1985. Soleil Moon Frye, 8 years old, Cherie
Johnson, 9 years old, and Ami Foster, 9 years old, all show their bare
feet when they are surprised from sleep when Punky's dog Brandon pulls
a cord which makes their sleepover tent in the living room collapse.
The three girls display all angles of their feet in medium close-up,
including the bottoms of their feet, as they walk about the living
room and talk excitedly about getting dolls called "Butter Lettuce
Babies." This episode, titled "Gals and Dolls," was first broadcast
March 3, 1985.

* "Punky Brewster" 1985. Soleil Moon Frye, 9 years old, confesses to
Henry that she has cheated on an exam, then climbs into bed and shows
the bottom of her left foot in medium close-up as she does so. She
then turns around and extends her legs, and the sole of her right
foot, mostly the upper half, shows just before she places her feet
under the covers. This episode, titled "Cheaters Never Win," was
first broadcast September 29, 1985. (Soleil may possibly have been 8
years old when this episode was first taped, since her birthday is
August 6, 1976, if the episode was made during earlier summer months
in preparation for the new season.)

* "Punky Brester" 1986. Soleil Moon Frye, 9 years old, sits up in
bed and talks to foster father Henry about her fear of a murderous
stalker in their city. While talking, Soleil has her legs crossed and
shows the top of her left foot in medium close-up, with the right foot
tucked under her leg and out of sight. When Henry moves to tuck her
in, Soleil unfolds her legs and reveals (requiring frame-by-frame
pause control) the horizontal top half of her right foot as she places
both feet under the covers. This episode, titled "Urban Fear," was
first broadcast January 5, 1986.

* "Punky Brewster" 1986. Soleil Moon Frye, 9 years old, while lying
in bed completes an entry to her diary about the Challenger accident.
She then tosses the covers back and shows the bottoms of both her feet
in medium close-up, although they are in shadow. She then gets out of
bed and goes to Brandon's doghouse, then to the window, and shows her
feet from all angles, including her soles, as she walks. She finally
climbs up on the wide window sill to sit and look at the stars to
contemplate her dream of someday becoming an astronaut. She first
stretches her legs out, then brings her knees up, and displays the
tops of her feet as she does so. This episode, titled "Accidents
Happen," was first broadcast March 9, 1986.

* "You Can't Do That on Television" 1984. Alasdair Gillis, 12 years
old, but who appears even younger, displays the bottoms of his bare
feet in extreme close-up while lying on a gurney in a doctor's
office. This episode, titled "Body Parts," was first broadcast
approximately February 1984. (An exact airdate is currently
unavailable.)

* "Full House" 1987. Candace Cameron, 11 years old, and Jodie
Sweetin, 5 years old, show all angles of their bare feet when their on-
screen dad comes into their room while the girls are in bed in their
pajamas. In the opening of the scene, Jodie awakens to find her dad
videotaping her bare feet which are sticking out from under the
covers. When she asks, "Daddy, why are you making 'feet movies'?" he
replies, "Because I love you, and I love your little feet." In a
"point-of-view" shot, the studio camera shows the tops of Jodie's feet
in close-up as he tapes with the camcorder. When Candace wakes up and
asks what's going on, Jodie says her dad loves her and her little
feet, and then smilingly lifts her feet from the bed to show her soles
in medium close-up toward the camera. The father then asks Jodie to
leave for a moment so he can talk to Candace alone, and Jodie shows
her soles briefly as she brings her feet out from under the covers.
Dad then goes over to Candace's bed, and her legs are stretched out on
top of the bedspread, with the soles of her feet shown in medium close-
up directly to the camera. (Candace, Jodie, and Mary-Kate and Ashley
Olsen numerous times showed their bare feet during the eight-season
run of the sitcom; this episode is selected as one example for its
close-ups of Candace and Jodie's feet.) This episode, titled "Daddy's
Home," was first broadcast October 23, 1987.

* "Ramona" 1988. Sarah Polley, 8 years old, climbs into bed while
wearing her new pajamas and has her slippers removed by her mother.
Sarah's soles are fully in view in medium close-up when this occurs,
and her bare feet continue to show as she slips her feet beneath the
covers. This episode, titled "New Pajamas," was first broadcast in
early 1988, but an exact air date has not yet been determined from
online sources. "New Pajamas" was the sixth episode (the first having
aired in January 1988) which on a weekly broadcast basis would place
it in either January or February 1988. Sarah turned 9 in January
1988, and while it is possible she may have been 9 when the episode
was filmed, assuming it was filmed shortly after the series began
broadcasting, it is more likely that the sixth episode was wrapped
while she was still 8, thus the age designated for this entry. In
this episode, she in fact looks even younger than 8.

* "Gerbert" 1990s. Numerous boys and girls are barefoot in one of
the episodes during a special segment called "Things That Go," in
which the children's feet are the focus. The camera frequently shows
the bottoms of the boys' and girls' feet in close-ups. This episode,
titled "The Crush," was rotated in broadcast with other episodes
during the early 1990s.

* "Full House" 1990. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, 4 years old,
sharing the role of the single character Michelle, show various angles
of their feet, including their soles, in three separate scenes: (1)
when Michelle gets out of bed and walks around in her pajamas and when
she is picked up by her father; (2) when her father lifts her out of
an inflatable swimming pool which she has dragged into the kitchen,
while she wears a swimsuit, and (3) when she is put to bed in her
pajamas and extends her legs out on top of the covers, towards the
camera, to show the bottoms of her feet. All scenes of her feet are
in medium views. (As noted earlier, Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin,
and Mary-Kate and Ashley numerous times showed their bare feet during
the eight-season run of the sitcom; this episode is selected as one
example for its close-ups of Mary-Kate and Ashley's feet.) This
episode, titled "Crimes and Michelle's Demeanor," was first broadcast
September 28, 1990.

* "Party of Five" 1994. Lacey Chabert, 12 years old, stands barefoot
in her pajamas in a bucket of ice water on the outside patio to give
herself a cold as "penance" for believing she has given one to her
boyfriend. Her oldest brother Charlie, thinking this is silly, picks
Lacey up and throws her over his shoulder to carry her back into the
house, revealing Lacey's wet bare feet in medium close-up as she is
carried. This episode, titled "It's Not Easy Being Green," was first
broadcast January 11, 1995.

* "Full House" 1995. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, 8 years old, who
both play the character Michelle, show the bottoms of their feet when
Michelle worries that her feet are too big after being teased by her
two older sisters. Michelle has several barefoot scenes, and she
displays her soles in close-up while lying in bed in her pajamas.
(Again, as noted earlier, Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin, and Mary-
Kate and Ashley numerous times showed their bare feet during the eight-
season run of the sitcom; this episode is selected as one example for

"My Left and Right Foot," was first broadcast January 31, 1995.

* "7th Heaven" 1999. MacKenzie Rosman, 9 years old, is lying
barefoot on a bed with her on-screen brother, David Gallagher, 14
years old, and the camera shows the bottoms of MacKenzie's feet in
medium close-up for several seconds. David is also barefoot but the
view is obscured. This episode, titled "The Tattle Tale Heart," was
first broadcast September 20, 1999.

* "Malcolm in the Middle" 2000. Erik Per Sullivan, 8 years old, lies
barefoot on his bed, but his feet are the only part of him which
appears in this scene. Frankie Muniz, 14 years old (but appears to be
about 12, his character's age), who plays Malcolm, is describing in a
voice-over about the various members of his family, and when the
camera cuts to a close-up of Eric's soles, Frankie says, "This is my
little brother Dewey's ice-cold feet." The scene lasts perhaps three
seconds, long enough to record and view again. Frankie's feet also
appear in the opening credits of the show as he rests his feet on a
coffee table in front of the television with his soles showing to the
camera in medium close-up. This first episode of the first season,
titled only "Pilot," was first broadcast January 9, 2000.

* "George Lopez" 2002. Luis Armand Garcia, 12 years old, appears
barefoot in the opening credits as he bounces apparently on a
trampoline. When his upper body rises farthest from the camera, his
feet show in close-up to the lens, including his soles. The action is
in slow-motion, so a freeze-frame reveals an even clearer view of the
bottoms of his feet. (Note: The current opening credit sequence may
be the original one; the writer of this list is unsure. If the
opening is the latest for this series, then Luis is shown at 12; if
the opening was shot when the series was first broadcast in 2002 and
is still being used, then Luis would have been 10 years old at that
time.)

* "According to Jim" 2003. Taylor Atelian, 8 years old, and Billi
Bruno, 6 years old, frequently appear barefoot in this sitcom which
first aired in 2001 when Taylor and Billi were 6 and 4, respectively.
In many episodes they are seen wearing pajamas and showing their bare
feet, including their soles. Although many examples can be cited, the
one chosen here for description is an episode which depicted the girls
feeling spooked at home after seeing a violent sci-fi film featuring a
female robot. In one scene they run barefoot in their pajamas into
their parents' bed and briefly show the bottoms of their feet as well
as regular views of the tops and sides of their feet. This episode,
titled "Scary Movie," was first broadcast November 4, 2003.

* "This is Daniel Cook" 2004. Daniel Cook, 7 years old, attends a
gymnastics class and removes his shoes and socks to participate in the
activities. The camera shows the bottoms of his feet in medium close-
up as he first sits on the mat, then shows the tops of his feet in
close-up as he walks along a balance beam. Later he shows his soles
in medium close-up as he swings to and fro on the rings in an attempt
to pull himself up on them. This episode, titled "This is Daniel Cook
at Gymnastics," was first broadcast in 2004. (The exact month and day
is unknown.)

* "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" 2005. Dylan Sprouse and Cole
Sprouse, 12 years old and identical twins, show the bottoms of their
bare feet while lounging poolside at the hotel where they live, in
this Disney Channel series. In bathing trunks, they lie on recliners
by the pool with their legs outstretched towards the camera, which
pans slowly from viewer's left to right, as Cole -- feet lying
slightly apart on the recliner -- wiggles his toes, while Dylan has
one foot crossed and resting on the other. Their feet are shown in
medium close-up. (The twins are distinguishable because Cole is
slightly more slender in body and face and is slightly shorter than
Dylan.) There are other barefoot boys as well, unidentified as of
this writing, in the recliner scene while the camera pans.
Additionally, all the boys, including Dylan and Cole, show their feet
again when they get into the pool. In various episodes of this series
the twins appear barefoot, but this particular show is representative
and thus far shows the best views of their feet, especially their
soles. The pan shot also appears in abbreviated form in the opening
credits of every first-season show. This episode, titled "Hotel
Hangout," was first broadcast March 18, 2005.

* "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" 2006. Cole Sprouse, 14 years
old, is ill with the flu and shows the bottoms of his feet in medium
close-up when the fold-out couch he is lying in suddenly folds
backward to reveal his feet when the mattress stops in an upward
position. Prior to the folding action his feet were out of view.
This episode, titled "Nurse Zack," was first broadcast December 8,
2006.

* "This is Emily Yeung" 2006. Emily Yeung, about 6 years old, learns
about African dance and appears barefoot while performing. At one
point she sits on the floor with her legs out and shows the bottoms of
her feet to the camera in medium close-up. Other scenes show her feet
in medium distance. This episode, called "This is Emily Yeung
Learning an African Dance," was first broadcast at a date as yet
unknown for this edition. (Emily was born in 2000 and the series
began in September 2006, but at the time of this edition it is unclear
whether she was 5 or 6 years old when this episode was made. This
series is a follow-up to "This is Daniel Cook".)

* "iCarly" 2007. Miranda Cosgrove, 14 years old, and Jennette
McCurdy, 15 years old, show the soles of their feet in extreme close-
up during the opening credits sequence of this series. While lying
down they hold their feet up to the camera lens and wiggle their toes
as they record themselves. (Jennette at 15 is perhaps thought by some
to be too old for this list, which describes the feet of "children",
but she is included here because she appears alongside Miranda in the
same barefoot shot.)

* "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" 2008. Cole Sprouse, 15 years
old, takes karate lessons and works out barefoot in the living room of
his suite. He shows both feet in medium close-up as he strikes a
pillow with his left foot, partially showing his sole as he twists his
foot. This episode, titled "Romancing the Phone," was first broadcast
April 19, 2008. (Some would say that at 15 years old Cole Sprouse has
"aged out" of this list, but he appears far younger than his age in
this episode and is included here because his feet look like those of
a 13-year-old.)
