If I backup my entire hard drive (i.e. the C drive) and the drive goes bad,
can I just install from the acronis backup on a new drive -or will I have to
install AND Activate with MS?
Tks.

I recently upgraded to a larger disk using TI, I didn't have to
activate Windows.

True Image by Acronis. If you restore Vista on any drive with TI, you
won't have to re-activate it. Vista won't know it moved if you don't
change the drive name, and the hardware profile it keeps is still the
same so it thinks it still on the same machine. It is!

Good luck.

I see. But probably if you change the HD again, or something else, you build
up enough changes to require reactivation. Who knows!
