How on earth can Judge Smith have decided that his original offense
could be overlooked with a community order, regardless of what the
family thought. I didn't realise that forgiveness by the victims (well,
not even the victim, his family) equitted blatant criminals of their
crimes....
Gah. Makes me sick.
Don't blame the family because the judge screwed up. Christians have a
duty to forgive those who have hurt them, but judges (Christian or not)
have neither a duty nor a right to forgive those who have hurt someone
else. Even where forgiveness is to be offered, Law reserves it to the
sovereign. Bad religion. Bad law. Bad result all round.
