I just removed a steering wheel from a 1984 plymoth van voyager, to
replace a broken key lock and when replacing the wheel noticed that the
wheel is now loose. I noticed, when i took the wheel off again that the
center bar turns on a bearing set and it can move in and out and what is
happing is that when i tightn the center nut it gets pulled up and is
nolonger seated in the bearing. I never did this before, i took the
wheel off. Any help will be apprecated.

Thanks

you sound like you lost the preload spring during dissassembly-----check to
make sure yours is not gone. It will usually be a coil spring that slides over
the center of the steering shaft.---Check a service manual picture to be sure.
