It is my understanding that the wastegate settings are very low on this
engine. I would like to raise the settings so I don't start releasing the
pressure at such a low setting as it is now. I believe it is 1.5 to 2.0 psi.
I would like to reset it to about 6 psi. Does anybody have any experience,
suggestions, etc.

I don't know well the electronic engine control, but if there (I'm sure) any
pressure sensor your change is recognized and the car goes in safety mode.

If its that low its probably a low pressure design with good low end torque
because of high mechanical compression ratio. If you increase the pressure
much you could blow the engine. High pressure turbos are designed with
lower compression ratio.

As someone said earlier there maybe some electronic monitor or control.

i would be REAL careful tweeking a s80...having
owned one...they do not seem to be a proven
"platform" yet.....that is, to build on....i dumped mine
and bought a nice 940t (1993) these are proven, sturdy
and i plan on boosting the hell out of it...(trying to get
to 300hp)....just be careful....once you start breaking things
on a s80...you will need big $$ to "keep playing.."...
just my opinion......good luck...

I only have experience of the same on the 5 cylinder cars, where the
wastegate is set to ~6psi and the Boost Control Valve between manifold and
w/g under ecu control bleeds off some boost so you actually get ~12psi. This
works well enough but usually the wastegate begins to open too soon and
response isnt as good as it could be.

With twin turbo's setting these isnt going to be so easy, but you could try
winding up each linkage 2 turns and seeing what the effect is. If the ECU
goes into limp mode you'll have to put it back! An accurate boost gauge
before and after would be highly recommended so you can see whats happening
when.

What's the matter, 268 hp is not enough for you? <g> The car runs so well
stock I can't imagine wanting to mess with it. It's not a race car. I really
wouldn't want to put more hp than that through the driveline/transmission.
The car already puts down more power than even sticky rubber can handle in
the lower gears.

Thanks for the replies. I can rechip it through IPD for a $1K and that
increases the boost from 8 to 14 psi, but I was looking for a more cost
effective method that I could do myself. I may try a small adjustment with
gauges to see what effect that has.

Thanks again.
