I seriously considering purchasing a S80 T6 2002 in the next few months. I
plan on buying it in Germany and then shipping back to the USA. A friend
tells me not/not to get a turbo for the USA because you can't drive it like
the care requires and will clog the turbos. He also tells me a Volvo
bulletin in the USA states that the turbos need to be "cleaned" every 3-6
months because of carbon build up stateside and driving the car at normal
USA speeds. I have been watching this group for sometime and have not heard
mention of this "problem". I have heard that a turbo requires more frequent
oil changes (3000miles) and a good synthetic is best (Mobil-1).

Anyone been driving a T6/T5 stateside with any comments? And maybe any
general repair experiences...

TIA
John

John,

Your "friend" is full of it.
I have owned three turbo cars and have never experienced any problems. I have
never heard of anyone having to have their turbos "cleaned" (how do you "clean"
a turbo, anyway?!?).
Make sure you order a US-spec car in Germany otherwise you may experience
costly problems trying to bring it stateside.

The only way to do this is the "official" way, where you buy a
fully-US-specced car on the European Delivery programme. You can't get
European-spec cars into the US like you could in the 1980s and before.

Your friend is ignorant. None of what he's told you is correct.
