I've had my car for 3months. My husband decided today to change the oil
and filter in it. He added 3 quarts and it shows from the stick that the
car has possibly a quart to a quart and half too much in it. He then
drove it about 30 miles and it still shows that. Im very worried about my
car. Will too much oil tear it up? What is the oil capacity for a car of
this? I have looked all over the web and I cant find anything that tells.
This car was purchased used but wonderful condition, but no owners
manual.

That doesn't make sense. Maybe he didn't drain all the oil out.

I have a 95 Corolla and the oil capacity is about 3.5 quarts.

How do you know it's 1 to 1.5 quarts over?

And yes, if it is over, that's not good for it. Something about too
much pressure blowing out seals.

The capacity has to be in the range of 3 to 4 quarts. Hindsight is
20/20, but if you didn't know the capacity, it is fairly easy to
measure how much came out BEFORE you put the new stuff in. If 3
quarts was enough to overfill it, then there may be a problem - either
it has the wrong dipstick or something is preventing the oil from
draining completely.

Make sure you check the oil on level ground, giving it a few minutes'
time to drain back into the pan.

Good Luck.

Do yourself a favor and buy the 1997 Toyota Corolla owner's manual.
