We have a sav-a-lot on the east side of town here. I like to go there
because the prices are cheap and you get a free package of toilet paper
with a coupon. It's like going to Mexico. Sometimes the clerk and I
are the only two that speak English. What I haven't figured out is all
the water they buy. They bring in empty gallon and five gallon jugs for
water and fill them at the water machine. I don't know if they don't
know if the tap water here is safe or if they haven't paid their water
bill but every time I see them with those empty jugs buying water from
that machine. Anyway I've got no feud with them, they roofed my house
when no one else wanted the job because the roof was to steep.

The best clerk at the closest supermarket to me is Mexican. It's a
Chinese market, and I speak to him in Chinese, though he does speak
English. A produce market near me is now what we call the
"Mexican-Israeli-Russian Market," as they stock a large variety of
Israeli and Russian products as well. The ethnic supermarkets are not
only much less expensive, especially for produce, they have a much wider
selection as well.

The water thing happens with Asians as well. They don't understand that
the tap water is actually safer than the water from the machines or
bottled water. If they don't like the taste of the tap water with all
the chlorine, they can install an R-O filter which, while there is an
initial cost, is going to be far less expensive and more convenient than
lugging huge bottle of water around.

What's upsetting is that the construction industry and home-improvement
industry used to be a living-wage, blue-collar industry. The general
contractors changed all that.

My opinion is you cannot expect the federal government to take the lead
on the issue of illegal immigration. Individual states are the ones
that must begin making it more difficult for illegals to work and live
in that state. There are various methods to accomplishing this but as
with anything else it will require money and enforcement.

It all needs to start with employers. Businesses must be held
accountable when someone they hire is not legally allowed to be
employed in the US. Unfortunately this will cause many small
businesses to suffer but it is a price that must be paid in this case.
Landlords also should be required to show evidence that their rentee
has the proper documentation. It really doesn't take anything more
than copying a work permit and keeping it on file. Enforcement
agencies should constantly monitor local businesses and ensure they are
complying with employment standards. It's not hard to find out which
businesses should be monitored, everyone knows where illegals work.

There is no need to involve the federal government in such easy and
small scale efforts. The incentive to skirt the law by those who
employ or house illegals must be removed before the problem becomes
manageable.

The Republicans don't want them out. Just after 9/11, the federal
government decided to require that employers verify social security
numbers provided by workers, since illegal aliens use fake social
security numbers that belong to either someone else, or no one. Two
powerful, well-connected groups went non-linear at this requirement. The
employers, mainly corporate farmers & the meat packing industry, and the
Social Security Administration. Why did the SSA care? Because illegals
pay billions into the system every year but can never get benefits. More
than 10% of the Social Security surplus each year comes from payments
from illegals, but only services that that the states are forced to
provide under federal law are emergency medical care and K-12 education.
Many states provide more services, for their own self-interest, i.e.
public health services so your restaurant workers are checked for TB,
etc, and driver's licenses (a politically charged issue, but some states
feel that since the illegals will drive anyway that it's better to
license them).

It's very easy for employers to verify SSNs, there's the e-Verify
system, but it's not required, and the special interest groups that
benefit from illegal aliens are working to prevent it from being required.

No one in power is really interested in solving the problem. Walls and
fences won't work. The solution is more complex and expensive than
building a wall (just ask the USSR and China).

Snott, I hope that when you die, you are reincarnated as a Mexican in a
small town in backwater Mexico where there are no jobs, and in desperation
you go to el norte with the hope of finding work that will allow you to send
some money home to your family. I don't believe you've ever thought of
a Mexican as a human being, just trying his best to get along, feed and
clothe himself. I'm sure you still think every Mexican is a guy
sleeping in the sun under a large sombrero. If you were a fatcat
Republican who has bodies to hire to do his hardest work for the least
payment, you'd know different.
You're so dumb sometimes you make rocks look positively brainy.

Does your pool have a concrete surface or does it have a liner? Which
type is better?

Oh, Joe, be VERY afraid! Snott is starting 'collection' with you!
Better just give him a buck to pay off that phony bet and tell him to STFU.
(actually, the guy would have trouble drawing flies, let alone collecting on
stupid bets.)
He'd do better collecting his meds and doubling the dosages, since he's
clearly gone around the bend.

He was gone for quite a while, and that will happen again when the big male

Agreed. Apparently they let him use a computer, whose keyboard is even
less dangerous than a crayon.

Why did it have to be resurfaced and how long did the original coating
last?

Go with Pebbletec if you can afford it. It lasts longer and you'll use
less chemicals.

Don't use a vinyl liner.
