This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a
world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup rec.autos.makers.toyota. This
is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.
Procedural details are below.

RATIONALE: rec.autos.makers.toyota
Toyota cars and trucks are very popular throughout the world. They
are well built and easy to maintain and service. If the owner has the
right knowledge, tools, and equipment he or she can save a lot of
money by doing the maintenance and service himself.
rec.autos.makers.toyota was mentioned both in alt.config and
rec.autos.tech as I sought support for the group alt.autos.toyota
which I created on 12/17/96.
In response to the idea of rec.autos.makers.toyota I recieved 14 very
encourageing responses from individuals and no negative responses over
a period of 12 days.
CHARTER: rec.autos.makers.toyota
The newsgroup rec.autos.makers.toyota is for technical discussion of
the Toyota Motor Corporation and their automobiles to include all
models of cars and trucks. This group is primarily for Toyota owners,
technicians, engineers, assemblers, and mechanics.
Examples of relevant postings would include, but not be limited to, the
following subjects:
* Maintenance suggestions
* Warantee Procedures
* Toyota dealerships
* History of Toyota, their cars, and trucks
* Technical Service Bulletins
* Mechanical and repair questions and advice
END CHARTER.
PROCEDURE:
This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes. In this phase
of the process, any potential problems with the proposed newsgroups
should be raised and resolved. The discussion period will continue
for a minimum of 21 days (starting from when the first RFD for this
proposal is posted to news.announce.newgroups), after which a Call For
Votes (CFV) may be posted by a neutral vote taker if the discussion
warrants it. Please do not attempt to vote until this happens.
All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.
This RFD attempts to comply fully with the Usenet newsgroup creation
guidelines outlined in "How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" and "How
to Format and Submit a New Group Proposal". Please refer to these

There were 107 YES votes and 28 NO votes, for a total of 135 valid votes.
There were 4 invalid ballots.
For group passage, YES votes must be at least 2/3 of all valid (YES and NO)
votes. There also must be at least 100 more YES votes than NO votes.
There is a five day discussion period after these results are posted.
Unless serious allegations of voting irregularities are raised, the group ma
not be voted on again for six months.

responses over a period of 12 days. Since the posting of the RFD for this
group I have received 10 new positive responses bringing the total to 24
positive responses over a measured period of 27 days. I feel that this
exemplifies the need for the addition of this group to the
rec.autos.makers.* hierarchy.
