I'm very strongly considering a Land Cruiser.
My question is - Toyota recommends premium gas. at 30-40 cents more a
gallon and 8-10 mpg, does it really need premium?
thanks in advance

If the v-8 is anything like the v-6 of similar design, the answer is
probably yes. My 3.4 pings on all types of gas, less on premium. But I
use regular anyway.

Buy a cruiser with the 80s body style you will get 13 mpg all the time,
towing climbing mountains
Run any gas you like and the price of the vehicle is about 1/4 to 1/5 of a
new one

Follow the recommendations in the owners' manual. Octane
requirements are based on the compression of the engine and other
design factors. Using a higher octane than needed is a waste of
money, but going lower can ruin an engine over time.

I don't know where you got this info. If you are talking about the model 100
series (1998-2000 LX-470 or Toyo LC) model, the V8 engine rating is 14-16
gpm. If you are talking about model 80 series (1990-1998 LX450 or TLC), the
gpm is 13-15. My 94 TLC normally gets 15 gpm average (mixture of highway and
city), but I use K&N plus synthetic gear and transmission oil. In both
models, you need only regular gas. These engines does not have high
compression ratio, and it has very conservative timing retard. As a result,
you can get more HP out of it, but it won't improve gpm. I will never
hesitate to get another 80, if the price is right, but I will be against
buying a model 100 for now - wait for model 102 to come, or get a model 60.

15 gpm? Are we talking about a NHRA dragster here? :)
