Hello there.

I need to purchase a new car.

One problem. I recently suffered an inner ear injury that left me painfully
hypersensitive to sound, so out of necessity I must pick a vehicle that runs as
silently as possible under all conditions, particularly freeway speeds.

So far Camrys appear to be the best choice as they have proven to be
tantilizingly quiet. But for reasons of choice and economy I don't want to
restrict myself to any one make and model of car.

In terms of quietness do Nissan Maximas compare favorably to Toyota Camrys?

Any other suggestions for quiet cars out there?

I have a 2000 maxima GLE. I've riddin in over Generation Camrys ( one 1992
one 1993 two 1994's and one 1996 ) and they all are much quieter than my
maxima. Wind noise is almost no-exsistant on both cars, but the maxima has
a high pitch noise on certain stretches of road where the camry is hush
hush.

One thing that will greatly effect the ride are the type of tires that you buy.
After much study I chose the Pirelli 6000. They are extremely quiet. I
have a Camry 97 XLE and drive long distance trips > 1000 miles a day sometimes.
Hate hearing that road hum for days after the trip.

Hope that helps

Camry's are VERY quiet cars. The only car that's quieter that I've
ever been in is a Rolls Royce. I would definitely suggest the Camry over
the Maxima. The Maxima sufferers from road noise at high speeds (over
60mph).
Regardless of which car you choose, you should know that there are
still ways to make the cabin quieter. Aftermarket products such as
Dynamat are designed to absorb noise and acoustially isolate the cabin
of the vehicle. You can buy this stuff at most Mobile Audio stores (and
in some cases they can install it for you too). Good luck!
