Is 21mm the correct size socket for Camry 14" wheel lug nuts ?

I'm doing the final tightening with a torque wrench. 20mm is too tight and
won't go on, but the 21mm seems to have a lot of play. I tried to find the
size in the owners manual but couldn't.
It is a metric size isn't it ?

I am using a standard 4 spoke wrench on mine and it fits perfect
but it does not have sizes marked on it...I bet they are not metric.
At least in the USA.

Yes it's metric. I think all the current cars in the US are. Even GM and
such stamp metric on them. It should be 21mm assuming they are the original
lug nuts.

Thanks, it just seems too loose. Just to be sure, I'm going to stop by a
store and try a 13/16" socket - it's .05 in smaller, maybe it will fit.

My Canadian version (made in Japan) '89 is the same thing. 13/16" fits
perfectly. Seemed odd to me too, but maybe they aren't the original nuts.
(My replacement metric brake line fittings needed an imperial wrench).

Its actually not 13/16, but 21mm. 13/16 will work, but is slightly
smaller. A cheaper socket may fit fine as they are lose or worn anyway.

I just got a Sears Craftsman, definitely not cheap 13/16 socket and it fits
just right - a little play but not much, unlike the 21mm which was really
sloppy - but also not cheap - Great Neck tools lifetime guaranteed.

Then someone has installed US nuts! :-D I have a 13/16 and it wont fit
on Toyotas without a push. Domestics use 13/16, but still have a 12mm X
1.5 stud also.

Mine's the same as Dave's, a 21mm is sloppy, my brand new quality 13/16" fit
nicely. The lug wrench fits, I don't see someone changing all 20 nuts and
the wrench (though weirder things have happened).

I mentioned before that mine is a Canadian version (there are very small
differences) Maybe they used 13/16" for a while?

No Toyota came stock with 13/16, they were and have always been 21mm

I measured my stock lug nuts with a micrometer and they are 20.9mm

So a 21mm is what is desired.

Well, since the original post was from 2002, I assume he solved the
problem by now. But I'm willing to bet that they are 3/4", which, like
spark plug wrench sized and wheel rim diameter seems to cling to old
school inches.

I noticed that myself. I don't know what sizes are on my X shaped lug
wrench, but I thought I would actually torque the bolts and I ony have
big sockets in English sizes, no metric** and iirc it was indeed 3/4"
that fit. Thank goodness for small favors.

**Except the 30mm socket Autozone lent me to remove the axle nut.
Actually the 30mm socket wobbled, maybe had a lot of play, but I think
it was because of the scoket design. Meant iiuc to hit the faces of the
nut, and not damage the corners, right? Do those seem to wobble?

13/16" should fit and has been the norm.

Took a lug nut off the Camry with supplied tire iron right in front of Advance Auto Part store. Took it in and matched it up. 21mm socket fit perfectly.
