I've got a '98 Camry - great car, but I find the low beam headlights not
quite bright enough for highway driving. The hi-beams are obviously better,
but not always practical (oncoming traffic). Anyone have any ideas? I'm
considering auxillary driving lights or...?

Thanks!

The low beams on my 1998 Camry are quite adequate, however, NHTSA web
site is full of complaints about the headlights. My car was
manufactured in July 1998, and perhaps they corrected it by that time.

I suggest that you contact your dealer and ask them upgrade your
headlights. If they refuse, try another dealer and/or contacting Toyota
Sevice Representative. If everything else fails try arbitration. You
may call arbitrators (1-800-300-6237) and ask if they consider this as
a viable arbitration item.

Good luck (I know you will need it since you are dealing with Toyota)!

My '90 Camry V6 LE (Canadian Silver Anniversary Edition) came equipped with
driving lights. Although the normal low beams are adaquate for city
driving, I live out in the country, in the heart of the Canadian Rocky
Mountains. The driving lights are a life saver here. They enable me to
easily see the side of the road under any conditions I've encountered. In
addition, they've enabled me to spot potentially dangerous situations, such
as deer on the road, and avoid trouble.

If you do any country driving, I recommend the driving lights most highly.
While the light covers on my say "Toyota," I believe they are actually
Bosch. In any case, they are excellent.

Driving lights are like high beams, they are suppose to be turned off
in traffic.

I have a '97 Camry and I found that the lights are not really dim,
they just seemed to be aimed too near to the front of the car. In low
light (no street lights) situations and highway speeds, they give a
very limited field of vision.

I suggest anyone to get a PIAA fog light to solve these problems...

They're not just good for normal night driving conditions, they're also good
for snowing.....

I had the same problem with my 92 Camry DX. I agree they are aimed a bit
too low, but mine were actually dim also. I replaced them with new halogen
ones (plugins) and they are much, much better. I may take it in and get the
aiming raised a tiny bit, but they are workable now.
