Hi Guys,

Yesterday I did a 45K servicing on my 1998 Camry LE and they informed me
that the front brakes are 35% and rear brakes 60%. Do I need to get new
brakes immediately? They told me I can get the brakes in the next oil
change. Should I wait till that time or go now and get them done? ( we are
getting in to winter season and would be hit with snow pretty soon). Can any
one of guys tell me what should I do now?
And where should I get the brakes, I assume Toyota would be expensive but
any way suggest me other alternative.

Thanks
Sunny M

At 35% left on the fronts, you should have about another 20K miles left.
When they are worn you will hear a loud squeal which is a safety warning
before the pads are completely gone. After another 20K miles keep your eyes
open for service specials at Toyota dealers in your area. Some dealers will
send you direct mail advertising of service specials. Some dealers will
advertise their service specials on their web site. There is no need to get
the rears done at the same time unless your time is very valuable or you
have to rent a car when yours is in the shop.

Naw, you still have over 1/3rd of your brakes left, next time in for
oil, just have them look at it again, then decide.

If there aren't any noises coming from the brake pads and you brake pedal
doesn't vibrate or jump when braking at high speeds, then there's no need to
replace the brakes. Wait until you hear the brake pad limiters skweel. Then
I suggest you replace both pads and disks together with original Toyota
parts, it's well worth the extra buck in lifespan and trouble-free service
(noise free) compared to aftermarket brake kits.

Rear Camry brakes last a long time. I have 125k on mine and
they are still fine. My mechanic has 180k on his original rear
brakes on his 1994 Camry.
