I have a 1997 RS twin turbo sedan. It has done about 47,000 kms. Someone
suggested Penrite HPR Pedigree which has a viscosity of 15W/60. What does
everyone here say ?
And is it better to use a synthetic, or mineral oil for these, and why?

Thanks in Advance

You can use a synthetic lubricant if, and only if, it has a viscosity
rating. You can also query Subaru at its WebSite and raise the question.

The new Outback Limited station wagon was obtained a few weeks ago here. The
Owner's Manual suggests a fossil fuel but also a synthetic product as well.
However, Subaru does not recommend leaving the synthetic lubricant in the
crankcase for more than 3000 miles.

was your pal talking 110W60 for the engine or a gearbox ???
max viscosity for that engine is probably 10W30 except maybe
10W40 if you are driving in the sahara or death valley. 5W30 if it's
way below zero. when in doubt look in the book for the model as there will
be a graph for temp ranges/viscosities

no experience or comments on synthetics

As to your subject line, I use whichever brand of vegetable oil is on
sale at the grocery store. My preference is corn oil or canola oil. You
can even mix them; about a 60-40 ratio is optimal.

When you drain the old oil out, you can mix it with some vinegar, salt,
and pepper to make a pretty good salad dressing.

As to your inquiry in the body of your post, I've found fresh urine to
be the best and cheapest coolant around. To fill the radiator, remove
the cap (careful if it's hot), stand about three rungs up on a ladder,
unzip, then aim your flow right into the opening.

It's a small target I know, but with practice, you can fill 'er up
without messing the garage floor.

Report back and keep up posted.

Subaru coolant of course is fine, if unavailable, see if you can locate Zerex Asian vehicle spec coolant. Or 'possibly' Zerex Global ?

I'd be tempted to locate Shell Totella T6 10w-40 .

There is a LOT of engine oil info and discussion at www.bobistheoilguy.com

Synthetic is better - particularly if you have extremely high or low
temps. You won't go wrong with Rotella T6, but I would not go beyond
15W40, and then only in very hot conditions - the outback of Australia
would qualify. Anywhwere else a 5W40 would be my recommendation
unless it was REALLY cold.
