If you find a good body shop, make sure you show your appreciation to
the guys that work on your car. I've found that most body guys are
normally more motivated to do a nice job on a Studebaker than the soap
bars they work on everyday, but a little tip to the painter for example
goes a long way. I hand the painter a $50 or $100 tip when he done, and
I've found they'll gladly spend a little extra time to do a great job.
I also try and make the owner happy, I bring the car in stripped of
all trim, I let them work it in between jobs, I pay cash and I try and
stay out of their hair until the car is done. I now am able to get a
overall paint job on a car just needing minor bodywork for half what I'd
expect to pay.

Theres a guyI met at a cruise one night who has a plum colored 37 Studebaker
Pres with so- so body work- but a REALLY nice paint job
Maaco did it-- which kinda surprised me considering it was a stock stude
color- grapetone?--and so nice--but he told me he slipped the guy painting it
an extra 50 for his pocket to get a super paint job and and he got what he
paid for
The guy has a couple Desotos he had painted the same way

Now if he could learn to block sand the cars they'd be incredible looking

By the way- *grapetone* is a very cool color- would look great on a street rod
too
