I just bought what I believe is a 1963 Champ pickup with a full-flow
289. It had 2 flat tires and I brought rims from my 64 Champ pickup
to put on it to haul home. They did not fit, my rims from my 64 Champ
are 5 X 5 bolt pattern, the rims on this truck were 5 X 4 3/4. I am
stumped. I thought 63 and 64 Champs had the same drums and bolt
patterns. Both trucks are 1/2 tons. Any explanations or answers
would be appreciated.

4 3/4 is a GM mid size bolt pattern. Chevelle, GTO. 60's 70's. Are you
talking rear.? Possibly someone changed the rear end. If on the front,
I am at a loss. jimmijim

Thanks jimmijim for the reply. I removed one of the front wheels and
sure enough it was 5X5. Great!. Just the rear is 5 X 4 3/4. Now to
figure out what the rear end really is and to somehow fabricate an
emergency brake for this truck. I noticed the rear drums were missing
emergency cables and the cab does not have an emergency brake
mechanism. Bummer. The full flow 289 sure sounds good though. The
rims on the rear look like rally rims, they have the wholes like rally
rims. I sure like the looks of the champ pickup. This one has the
chrome package, very cool. Any ideas about what to do for an
emergency brake would be appreciated.

Somebody's been a'fooling with your truck in the past.

Five inch is standard on Studebaker light trucks with 15" wheels.

An alternative to the parking brake would be a brake lock on the back
wheels if you have trouble finding the right hardware. Basically a
leaver switch on the dash that does not allow the brake fluid back to
the master cylinder if the switch is on. I had one on a Unibox Ford as I
could not find the needed pieces for an emergency brake. Worked great for me

You might try finding a full size Chevy 1'/2 ton rear for cheap and
put it in with cabels complete and all. Same bolt pattern then Carry 1
spare then. jimmijim
