Everybody seems to hate ebay. Every group I subscribe to,
complains about them and states that its a rip-off. It seems to work,
though.
I've posted two cars in this group, to try and sell. I sold my
57 Hawk right away and didn't get a nibble on my Avanti. No problem, I
thought, I'll try again later. I listed it again a week or so later
and still nothing. Maybe Avantis' aren't hot right now, I'll try
Turning Wheels or my local newspaper.
I then checked out ebay, and saw an Avanti up for auction. It
seemed it was a solid car, but needed a total restoration and the
bidding seems to be brisk. As it sits now, $6,100 might be a bargain,
but it seems it will take quite a few thousand more to get it to a
nice presentable stage.
Maybe ebay shouldn't be picked on anymore. It seems the
auction fever really does make people do strange things. Or maybe not
enough people know what the usenet is yet.
Well, I guess I'll keep trying to sell the car, but I really
hate to give a third party some of my money, I'd rather give the buyer
the break.
Lets try it again:

I'm selling my 1970 Avanti II with 67,000 miles. The car was
originally from Texas and is very solid underneath. I just had it
painted and I put in a new interior and carpeting. I've owned this
car since 1982.
It needs tie rods and kingpins but is a very nice everyday car
that used during the summer. I'm asking $8,500.
A picture of the car is at:

EBAY works I've sold 3 cars in the last month on EBAY, one an Avanti II. The secret to selling a car on the Net is a honest informative, presentation.  Check out my listing for my MGB here:http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=107097811

Bob Kapteyn and I were discussing ways to help the Studebaker museum fund. He has been donating parts for a contribution, now you've given me an idea.
I'll take a group members pictures and information on any item they'd like to sell and do the fancy HTML  and pictures in exchange for a donation to the museum in the Internet chapters name. The size of the donation to be decided by  the seller. If you get 3 times what you expected as I did on the MGB I'd expect a LARGE donataion.<g>

Very nice eBay posting. It builds a buyer's confidence when
you point out the flaws, rather than saying there aren't
any!

Have you had any problems closing the deals & getting the
money on the cars you sell?

My '56 Cmdr 4 door will go in TW next month. If an SDC
member doesn't want it, off to eBay it goes...

Nope, never a problem. The guy that bought the Buick even sent me a $100 tip for
helping him find a transport company and meeting the truck at the depot to save him a
few bucks.

Yep.. works for me..

Just sold a 1972 Plymouth Road Runner promo car to a Marime in Japan,,,, it was
his birthday present.. and he bought it with his wife's blessings..

I have bought some car literature and some baseball cards cheap... actually a
friend of mine is starting to refer to me as John P of the Warren Morris
Cards.... Warren Morris is an up and coming player for the Pittsburg Pirates...
and from Alexandria, Louisiana.. where I live. In short..... I have bought 5
Warren Morris Cards in the last month... and I THINK that may be more than the
total of John P's Avantis <grin>

Snagged a 1966 Studebaker brochure from FieroNut... waiting on USPO to bring...
and just tonight... snagged a 1964 Studebakerand Avanti brochure from StudeBob.

Yeah,,,, I am very happy with EBAY so far..

I really hate to complain about E-Bay as my wife Diane has built up a thriving
business based on buying and selling collectibles. Just yesterday she handed me a
big wad of $$$ for the Studebaker fund.
Nobody forces anyone to buy on E-Bay.
Always check the sellers and the buyers history before bidding or accepting a bid.
Diane has had very few purchases or sales turn bad.
Sure prices are forced up in auctions, if your the seller that's good. If your the
buyer, start watching the closing time of the auctions. Off hour closing times
often are bargains. Don't get into a bidding war. Everyone loses but the seller

I love EBAY you just have to be careful. The rebuilt Studebaker AFB I just offered
for sale was a EBAY purchase. Upon inspection it turned out not to be a Stude carb and
was missing the metering rods. I E-Mailed the seller and he is sending a full refund
as I would have expected with his high feedback rating.

Glad I didn't bid on that one but you're right about the many bargains
that can be found there.I have no doubt that there are some who are
falsely making claims on condition and origins/applications of items
just like any business.Caveat Emptor and have fun
