This is a really nice truck, but.... Why does a '63 8E have the earlier
narrow bed? Am I wrong, but I thought the narrow bed was only offered in
'60 and maybe '61.

Paul, you're right about the bed on that truck. Most likely the owner just
preferred the looks of the old style bed. And I agree with him. Champs always
look better with the "studebaker" bed in place. I'm doing a similar switch on
my '62. Some old timers, i.e., Chuck Naugle, have told me that Champs could be
special ordered right up until the end with the old bed. But the fact is that
by '63 there weren't many "special orders" for Champs at all. It's a typically
unfortunate thing too. Even our Studebaker bretheren have only recently begun
to really appreciate the Champ. They are really fun and useful rigs. If the
tail gate had read "Ford" or "Chevy", they would have sold hundreds of
thousands of them.......but, I would have never known what a good little truck
it is. To this day, I have never and will never ( i hope) own a Ford or Chevy.

That is a beautiful truck, I'm looking forward to mine looking (almost)
as good.

I know the styling is at least partly an accident, after all the front
came form the Lark and the bed pretty much dates from what, 1939? But
the way it all came together, especially the side view, those trucks
have a hunkered down, rough and ready, don't mess with me kind of look.

A Dodge Ram wishes it looked so tough!

Paul the truck originally was a Arkansas state vehicle and was a wide
box with only one option, a Flarestat.

These guys basically collected a bunch of NOS parts and loaded it up.
I have the June 2002 Vintage Truck Magazine(formerly This Old Truck) it
was featured in.

They did a very nice "restoration" but the truck is far more loaded than
when it left the factory.

Now if only Studebaker had used the two door sedan as the basis, they
probably would have had a real winner considering the increased leg room etc...

Crappy photo presentation. Given that, I can still see what appears to
be a bogus air cleaner on the engine. What's with the old Climatizer decal
on the heater box? Just a "cutesy" touch?

Yeah, I think the written part of the presentation portrays it as THE
nicest. (The photos that accompany it sure leave alot to be assumed) Who
knows? It might well be. But that would take aLOT of research and inspection
of every damned T-cab still in existence. I remember an orange T-cab at the
'96 Nats that was as perfectly correct and new as one can be made. Maybe
this seller knows that that one's been thrashed since '96. <G>
Kinda like the BS hype that touted that $19K '56 Transtar as the
BEST! Heh- It was possibly the best ON ebay at that particular moment. But
"best" when considering other's I've seen at Stude meets is pure, condensed
Bullshit.
I don't want to gush negativity for the sake of being contrary. It's
just that when you make claims that you can't (in all likelyhood)
substantiate, there oughta be alarm bells clanging like mad to alert you to
BS. And if there's no hesitation to stretching the truth in that respect,
what other liberties would they feel comfortable with???

"Always give more than you promises" is not just a corny slogan, it's a
wise way of doing business. i.e. the write-up you gave me for your
Wagonaire, makes the car seems worse than it is, but who ever wins the
car will get more than they expected. Hell, from a profit angle, you
could have sold the AC, and power steering setup, the tailgate step and
roof rack for a grand or more, than list the car. You may not have even
known that the NOS rear window motor is a $300-$400 Avanti item. <g>
If I bought a car that was the descried as 'finest', I'd damn well
expect ot to be.

Heh! I knew about that motor but it just didn't strike me! Go figger! And
what IS a flanged axle type 44 rear worth? I know that the Avanti guy's used
to lust after them.

Bob, when you offered me the car, I figured I could more than pay
for it by selling the 'extras' and still peddle the basic car. Even
Lee's Cruiser missed reserve by a few bucks, but the AM/FM from it is
pushing $500 on ebay and he can relist it with a AM, but we'd hoped the
bidders would have factored in the factory radio.

I had the same thought! I still need glamour photos of it and it has
been snowing, just turned to freezing rain and will be a while before
I have anything suitable for e-Bay.

Spent 5 hours today in the plow truck. 3 hours cleaning out the
driveways here at home (put 5 miles <honest> on the truck this morning
before I left the property)

Tell me why the Avanti power window moter is $300 to $400 and I can buy the
T-Bird motor all day long for $125 ?

Because the T-Bird motor will not work on 63-64 Avanti's, the switches
will though. The only brand X interchange for the Bosch motor is a few
obscure 60's Ford motor applications. If you found $125 bolt in motor,
you're potentially a very rich fellow. <g>

Right after I got my '61 Champ, my wife and I took it to a local cruise night.
I had several people ask if I had chopped the top!
Of course it is not chopped, but to some non-stude folks I guess it looks that
way, especailly with a long bed truck.

I see it got up to $14,999.99 and didn't sell because it didn't make
reserve.
