Don't take this the wrong way...I think some of the drawings are pretty
neat (who knew a hawk could look so good as a spaceship), but then I am
"out there" a little bit myself. Just wondering if all of the SDC
members would "get it" if it was started from the beginning.
Maybe I missed something too as far as how this would be put into TW,
so if I did, please enlighten me.

As the strip comes out once a week (or so) they would pretty much have
to put four weeks worth in each issue just to stay caught up, maybe the
first month start from 16 (the kids are swimming and the tide goes out
exposing a saucer) and continue through 19. Plus of course they would
have to list the website so those who were interested could check out
the whole series.

I wrote the artist and right now unless I did not understand
his desires, he is looking for that to become
a television show. If you look at the technique used in his
art it is very labor intensive and I do not think
certain frames or cells will / would reproduce well in TW.
Has anyone asked the artist if he wanted to be in TW, or
wants to particiapte, and the biggy, how much does he charge
to do a strip/drawing? I don't think he would be donating
unless thats what folks are looking for.
Just because its a Studebaker it doesn't mean that we should
be putting pressure on him or TW.

My position isn't really to put pressure on anyone, it's a great strip
with a lot of really creative Studebaker content. If Turning Wheels and
Ted Bastien could work something out Bugsport would get some good
exposure and the membership would get to see a neat cartoon that most of
them would never have otherwise seen.
I can't really imagine how much work it is to create work like that, but
I can appreciate that it's very well done and must take a tremendous
amount of work and talent.

NO, I SUPPORT IT 300%, but what good is it, if the artist,
or the SDC is not open to it? I think
anything that can promote both Studebaker, or its image, and
also promote the SDC is a plus. But why
should we put undue pressure on this fellow, who I believe
said he wanted a TV show out of this? Why
put the SDC under pressure to form a series of committees to
determine if a committee thinks its a viable
idea.
Right now through the Internet we have the good fortune of
reading the new chapter of Bu sport every
Friday. with just the input of a few key strokes and in COLOR.
Based on what I pay for art this could wind up costing the
SDC some heavy money, unless the artist feels
that the exposure to the 13,000 copies ii will draw him the
needed press publicity. For example on a typical shirt
design, and depending on artist, I can pay upwards to $600
$750 for the use of the art on shirts etc, we are not
talking other items that might come to mind. On top of that
I pay 3% to 4% of wholesale sales. and 6 to 8% of retail
sales to the artist.
Wholesale sales means that if SI wanted to carry the shirts
and he ordered $800 worth, I would also pay the
artist another $32 on top of what I paid him.......thats
wholesale. If I sell $500 worth of shirts at York or Reedsville
I pay $40
So you can add my name, and add those of Ellen & Robin if
it will help

I don't know if it's possible or not, but it can't hurt to let the club
and Mr. Bastien know that there are a bunch of us who appreciate his
work and would like to see it in our magazine.
Maybe the thing to do would be to just run the ones with Stude content?

My thoughts as well
Is it financially a good deal for the SDC? is it a good deal for the
artist?
Why not simply write a letter to TW with the Web address for the
cartoon, and bring it to the attention of all SDCers that way. Then
those who wish can view the website. Perhaps TW could publish a sample
cartoon(provided the author agrees).
