Hi all.

We ran the Westernationals at Ravenswood Raceway last night and Victor
Bray stunned the crowd with 2 laps faster than the best in the world.
On both runs to excede 233 mph the car danced all over the track and
had his hands full for the entire lap.

It was absolutely awesome racing with the best in Australia taking on
the 30 year old surface, with only the bravest drivers making it to
the traps under full power.

Qualifying order was.
1. Robin Judd Studebaker 6.498
2. Peter Kapiris Studebaker 6.680
3. Les Winter 55 Chev 6.727
4. Victor Bray 57 Chev 6.732
5. Brett Stevens Studebaker 6.806
6. Andrew Searle 56 Custom line 6.821
7. David Koop 56 Chev Belair 6.826
8. Peter Hamilton 97 Statesman 6.898

out side looking in were

9. David Simpson Ford Fairmont 6.901
!0. Lindsay Murray VS Commodore Ute 7.099
11. Peter Gratz Dodge Daytona 7.140

The weather was great and the racing was excelent. Best appearing car
and crew was awarded to Brett Stevens "Jack Daniels Racing"
Studibaker. Absolutely stunning flame job covering everthing including
the crew.

Best engineered car was Paul Martini's "Jenkins JPP" Dragster, powered
by a twin Sprintex Supercharged Nissan FJ 20, running 7's at near to
170mph.

Final of Doorslammer was David Koop and Victor Bray and both drivers
did a great job of staying in their own lane !!!

lane RT 60ft 660ft speed 1320ft speed
1. Dave Koop 0.536 1.154 4.753 160.49 7.133 196.93
2. Victor Bray 0.562 1.123 4.352 182.31 6.522 233.16

And Victor was the victor.

I wish you were all here to see it.

Regards to all

Great report, Stu!

Could you give us Yanks a few more details about the track and the cars?
Is this a 1/4 or a 1/8 mile track? Judging by the times, I'd guess 1/8 or
you have some mighty fast cars Down Under!

What about the cars? Were the Studebakers using Stude power or was
something else swapped in? It's interesting- just a few days ago there
was a thread which turned into a flame fest about Porsches being as much
of a drag car as a Studebaker. And here are some Studebakers!

Love to hear more about drag racing in Oz.

Take care-

Jeff

Great report as usual, Stu. For Jeff, Victor Bray and Dave Koop
and the gang drive Top Doorslammers -- more or less Pro Mods on
steroids. The cars are heavier than IHRA Pro Mod cars, but they
offset that with blown Hemi engines and PSI blowers. Victor's laps
of 233.12 and 232.55 mph both eclipsed his own world record of
232.13 mph. The only other doorslammer in the world to go 230 --
and the first to do it -- was Super Chevy Show Nitro Coupe racer
Randy Merrick, who used nitromethane in his supercharged ex-Bill
Kuhlmann Corvette to do the task. Victor and the gang down under
use methanol. Great racing on both sides of the world! Oh, by the
way, Ravenswood Raceway is every bit a quarter mile track.

Im proud to say the track is 1/4 mile, and yes we do run very fast down
here, considering all the fuel and equipment is probably 4 times the
cost in the USA.

Glad you are interested, Mick.
