I just bought a second-hand 1992 saab cabrio turbo s 16 valve and I was
wondering what was the difference between a turbo 16V and a turbo s 16V. I
thought they have the same engine or not ?

In europe where you seem to be located the 900s (-1993) was a light pressure
turbo. I have not seen the notation "900 turbo s", but only "900 turbo" and
"900s", but they both have a turbo, so I guess that's the one you got.

He probably ment the Turbo 16S. The normal turbo had 160hp, the turbo S
175hp. The difference is most likely only a setting in the engine
management.

To verify this: the turbo S models have a different aero-kit, then the
normal turbo's do.

Hi Mark,

There is (according to me) another difference.

The guy has a 16 valve. Therefore I thought that in 1992 the 16valve Turbo
had 175 HP and the 16 valve turbo S had 185 HP (special series they only
made in the last years, with wooden dash).

Hi Johan,
here in Austria the Saab 900 turbo16S was the top model, fully equipped and had
the "Aero" or "SPG" airflow side (door) panels and the "lowered" rear side
panels and a different front spoiler (same front/rear bumpers), but not the
"air flow kit combined bumper" front and rear spoilers.
It also had 165hp with cat konverter.
It was sold 1992 to 94.
There was a
Saab 900i,
Saab 900S (low pressure turbo),
Saab 900 turbo and the
Saab 900 turbo S.

The modified APC box was an option on the 900 turbo S too (185hp), so the car
came with 165hp (cause 175hp was the power without cat converter) (some said,
it was rated 165hp because of insurance reasons...)

Greetings, RCS

The sign on the trunk says turbo s 16 valve; it has no wooden dash.

I think it's better you try to figure out what engine version you have by
looking at the engine. There is bound to be someone who can tell what engine
you exactly have, by looking at that number. I had the same problem when I
owned a Volvo 480. The only way I could find out was by looking at the
engine type. It turned out to be a 109hp non-cat engine.
As for the sign on the trunk: it doesn't have to be what is supposed to be
on there. Lots of cars drive around with wrong type identification, just to
make it look more a more expensive model or just the opposite a cheaper
model. Usually though this will only fool people who don't take some intrest
in cars.

You are right about that, but I bought the car of a 60 years old (and very
rich) lady (her husband drives an Aston Martin as daily driver and she now
owns an Audi TT and some other car) so I don't think she is interested in
doing such things. But I will try to figure out what type of engine I have.

I think the car has anti-roll bars (anti-sway bars) and overall a different
suspension and also a different apc setting but I'm not sure about that.

In Belgium the S means low pressure turbo (in the older models = pre 1994)
or if Turbo it means extra turbo or luxury.
