I've a problem with my Rover 600Ti handbrake, can anyone help ?
It's just not able to hold the car at all now. I've put new pads on the back
and adjusted the handbrake using the adjuster under the centre console but
to no avail. The handbrake feels good when you pull it on. The caliper
pistons seem to move ok. Is there some kind of kit available for inside the
calipers as per the Haynes manual ? Has anyone fitted this ? Do I need new
calipers ?
Any advise appreciated.
Thanks.

I had a similar prob on a 420 once. It turned out that the pad wear
auto-adjustment was out of position, which meant that the hanbrake operating
lever (on the caliper) was hitting the end-stop before pulling on the pads
completely. Basically, the handbrake cable was set too tight and the
automatic adjustment had sort of compensated, so that the foot-brakes were
fine but there wasn't much travel left in the handbrake. I sorted it by
slackening off completely in the cabin so that the cables were loose, then
standing hard on the brake pedal to reset the auto adjustment then tweaked
the handbrake manual adjustment as per the manual - all fine afterwards.
If not, check the condition of the calipers/pistons - again on the 420, a
rear one seized, reducing the braking effect and ruining an almost new set
of pads in the process......
Good luck,
Ade
