They were used behind all the sixes and small block type eights in almost
every mid and full sized GM car with a lock up converter from very late
1970's / early 1980's until the TH350 was dropped for the Metric 3 speed or
one of the 4 speed automatics depending on the vehicle. That varied by
model and year but pretty much the TH350C was all done by 1985. There were
2 basic versions: the Chevy bellhousing and the B-O-P bellhousing ( Buick -
Olds - Pontiac ) and some of the B-O-P jobs also had the Chevy bellhousing
bolt pattern and could be used in either.

I'm pretty sure the regular TH350 was used behind the Small Block 400 in the
early 70's but don't know if the SBC 400 was around by the time they changed
the tranny to the TH350C with lock up convertor. If you are wondering if it
will work behind that engine I don't see why not. In a lot of cases the 350
engine put out more power than the 400 but the 400s longer stroke made
better torque. Plenty of them done exactly that way in street rods and
street machines.

I have one behind a 455 and the stall speed is too high so looking for a lower stall
speed.
The lock up clutch is slipping so want to upgrade.

Thanks for the info Mike. I had a 71 Kingswood wagon with a 400 ( 265 hp 2
bbl carb ) and a TH350 but wasn't sure how far beyond that they kept the
tranny with that motor.
I could look it up but it's been a long week.

BTW, that engine is in my dads S-10 now :) cause my brother hit a telephone
pole with the Impala. It had 118,000 miles on it (still ran fine) and after
that accident, and the rebuild and swap into the S-10 it has gone another
185,000 miles and no ridge on the cylinder walls. The Impala did high 16's
in the 1/4. The S-10 does low 13's now.

We used to have to time the Kingswood's runs with a calander.
