Me and my wife have decided today to buy a Porsche. (You only live once and
all that )..............

Trouble is we havnt got a clue what to buy, how much to pay what to look for
etc. (A dealers dream I suppose).

Can anyone give me some advice. We have about £30,000 to spend.

Your choice is either Boxster (newish) or 911 (964/993). My advice is do
some homework - Try Porsche World magazine. Drive some cars! Main
dealers charge top prices (of course), but their cars are above
reproach. The independents charge less, and Porsches are built to last.
I bought my 911 (3.2 Carrera) from an independent (Coventry) - no
regrets. As you say, you only live once.....

There was a good feature on TopGear (BBC) a while ago on how to buy a
used Porsche i GB. Maybe you can find some information on their homepage.

With 30k£ to spend, I would recommend a 993 (the 911 built between
1993-1996). They are known as some of the best Porsches ever built.
Great performance and practically no weak-spots at all.

A good advice is to examine the maintenance costs before you buy. Especially
if you go for a post 1990 model. The maintenance costs can be a bit of a surprise
for a first-time Porsche owner. They certainly were for me:)

For a daily driver I would recommend a 944 in any shape (cabriolet, S2
etc.) and for fun a 911 turbo last edition or if you want a great
experience a Boxster. Well... it's difficult as all Porsches have their
un-copiable performance and idiotery (in the best sense).

Good luck with finding your car and by the way... Porsche are far
cheaper on the continent (Holland, Belgium, Germany).
