no, but low fuel economy could be imaginary - I thought I was down to 9
mpg, but it was the odometer gear failing.
low fuel economy is frequently the driver. or the cat. or a dirty air
cleaner.

been there, done that - at the age of your car the cat is almost for
sure bad - backpressure reduces engine economy and power, and poisoning
of the catalyst makes it not work - on the last 2 944s that failed NOx
tests, changing the cat fixed it and improved mileage, power, and
smoothness. The DME is digital, pretty much it's going to work or not -
I smoked a transistor in one once (and repaired it) but that is not a
common failure (it was a "mechanic induced" failure)
